MOSCOW, July 14 (Reuters) -- Moscow will bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, mayor Yuri Luzhkov said on Saturday.

"Moscow intends to host the Games in 2012," Luzhkov told a reception for members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC voted on Friday to award the 2008 Games to Beijing.

Moscow hosted the 1980 Games, which were blighted by a U.S.-led boycott after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the previous year.
