VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- The Alpine cities of Salzburg and Kitzbuehel have agreed to join forces and submit a bid to bring the 2010 Winter Games to Austria, the Austrian Olympic Committee announced Wednesday.

AOC President Leo Wallner said that Salzburg would be proposed as the official "host city," while alpine skiing would be held at the mountain resort of Kitzbuehel.

Cross-country skiing would be staged in Salzburg as well as hockey, figure skating, curling and speed skating.

AOC officials said they will finalize and present their concept at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The International Olympic Committee will award the 2010 Winter Games at a meeting in Prague in July 2003.

Other cities which are bidding for the 2010 Games include Vancouver; Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, host of the 1984 Winter Olympics; Christchurch, New Zealand; Helsinki, Finland; Granada, Spain; and Muju, South Korea.

The Austrian city of Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976.
