Moving on Kwan leaves Olympic disappointment behindPosted: Wednesday December 04, 2002 5:39 AMUpdated: Wednesday December 04, 2002 9:06 AM
HONG KONG (AP) -- Ten months after failing to secure an Olympic gold, figure skating star Michelle Kwan said she has moved on emotionally from the disappointment. Kwan is the most accomplished figure skater of her generation, with six world titles and four U.S. titles, but she's never done better than silver in her two tries at the Olympics. "It's not the one thing I strive for," the 22-year-old Kwan said Wednesday. "I'm very content with what I've done in my ice skating career." Even so, she's still competing and refused Wednesday to rule out another try at the 2006 games in Turin, Italy. "It's possible," Kwan told a luncheon audience during a promotional stop in Hong Kong for the Walt Disney Co. In the Salt Lake City games early this year, Kwan took a disappointing third in an event won by American teenager Sarah Hughes. During the 1998 Nagano games, Kwan placed second behind U.S. teen sensation Tara Lipinski. Kwan called her time in Salt Lake City "the most amazing experience, whether it's on the podium or not." She is a native of Torrance, California, whose family first came from Hong Kong.
