'Back on track' IOC chief Rogge back at work after heart surgeryPosted: Tuesday May 06, 2003 12:06 PMLAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- IOC president Jacques Rogge is back at work three weeks after undergoing heart surgery. Rogge, 61, returned to IOC headquarters on Monday and is conducting business as usual, the International Olympic Committee said Tuesday. "He seems very well," an IOC spokeswoman, Emmanuelle Moreau, said. "He just had a meeting with the directors. He said he was well back on track. He's in good form." Rogge had what the IOC described as "endoscopic surgery of a benign nature" in Belgium on April 15. Belgian newspapers said the operation was to repair a malfunctioning heart valve. Rogge was released from the Notre Dame hospital in Aalst, Belgium, on April 22. Rogge, a former Belgian orthopedic surgeon, was elected IOC president in 2001. He succeeded Spain's Juan Antonio Samaranch, who led the IOC for 20 years. Rogge will preside over IOC executive board meetings next week in Madrid, Spain.
