IOC officials begin Olympics inspection

Posted: Monday June 02, 2003 8:19 AM

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- International Olympic Committee officials began a three-day inspection visit Monday of the 2004 Games preparations.

The small delegation was led by Denis Oswald, head of the IOC coordination commission, and Gilbert Felli, IOC sports director.

Oswald will concentrate on 2004 venue construction, security, and management.

Construction delays have led organizers to reschedule several test events. Oswald has said Athens had overcome many delays but that much work remained to be done.

The next full IOC coordination commission meeting is scheduled for October.
