SYDNEY, Aug 31 (AFP) - A call-up by the Los Angeles Dodgers has ruled Australian baseball star Luke Prokopec out of the Olympics.

"I know Luke will be disappointed not being able to play for Australia. He was really looking forward to coming home and playing in the Olympic Games," said Australia team manager Don Knapp.

Prokopec, a pitcher, was recently selected to the Texas League All Star team after a standout season with the Dodgers' league affiliate team San Antonio.

In a further set back, another pitcher, John Stephens, requires arm surgery and will also be unavailable.
