Romanian gymnast stipped of gold medal: official
SYDNEY, Sept 26 (AFP) - Romania's Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Andreea Raducan has been stripped of her gold medal after failing a drugs test, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Tuesday. Francois Carrard, the IOC's media director, said at a briefing that Raducan had been stripped of her gold medal after testing positive for the stimulant pseudoephedrine. "Raducan ... is found to have used a prohibited substance," Carrard said. "The National Olympic Committee of Romania is ordered to to return the gold medal and the diploma awarded to Raducan. The decision is effective immediately," he said. Carrard said the Romanian team physician who gave the cold medication to the gymnast was banned from the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games and the 2004 Athens Olympics.
