SYDNEY, Sept 26 (AFP) - Star Romanian gymnast Andreea Raducan will challenge the International Olympic Committee over its decision to strip her of a gold medal following a positive drugs test, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said Tuesday.

The tribunal released a statement saying Raducan would seek to overturn the IOC's decision to disqualify her from last week's individual all-round competition.

"Romanian gymnast Andreea Raducan filed an appeal with the ad hoc division of the Court of Arbritration for Sport challenging the decision made by the IOC Executive Board earlier this morning to disqualify her," the statment said.

CAS would hold a closed hearing in Sydney on Wednesday with three arbitrators to determine the outcome of the appeal.

"The CAS will decide after that hearing whether or not a final decision will be issued on the same day," the statement said.

Raducan had her medal taken away after testing positive for use of the banned stimulant pseudoephedrine.

Traces of the drug exceeding permitted levels were found in her urine sample following the individual all around competition on September 21.

The drug entered the gymnast's system after Romania's team physician gave her two over-the-counter cold remedy tablets.
