Romanian federation knew hammer thrower had tested positive
BUCHAREST, Sept 30 (AFP) - The Romanian Athletics Federation (FRA) knew that hammer thrower Mihaela Melinte had tested positive for nandrolone in July, FRA secretary Nicolae Marasescu said on Saturday. Marasescu said that according to a press release from the sport's world governing body IAAF, Melinte, 25, had tested positive for nandrolone during a meet in Milan on June 7. Melinte, with a world record throw of 76.07m, was ejected from the Olympic stadium at the eleventh hour Friday just before the qualifying rounds and missed the final that night, the sports arbitration panel TAS confirmed on Friday. Marasescu added the IAAF had not asked the Romanian athletics federation to contact the Romanian Olympic Committee (COR) nor the International Olumpic Committee (IOC), adding they had also said the information in the press release was confidential.
