Harrison wins first British boxing gold medal for 32 years
SYDNEY, Oct 1 (AFP) - Audley Harrison out-slugged Kazakhstan's Mukhtarkhan Dildabekov to win Great Britain's first boxing gold mdeal at the Olympics for 32 years here Sunday. The powerful Londoner won every round with his accurate right jab and left lead to beat Dildabekov on points 30-16. Harrison becomes the first Briton since middleweight Chris Finnegan at Mexico City in 1968 to win a boxing gold at the Games. The Briton put a standing eight-count on the Kazakh late in the first round and beat him to the punch consistently with his superior hand speed. Harrison, who also won the super-heavyweight gold at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, is expected to command huge money when he turns professional after winning Olympic gold.
