Zorn holds the distinction of being the "winningest" athlete in the
history of the Paralympic Games. The 36-year-old has collected an
incredible 54 medals, including 41 golds, in five Paralympic Games.
Zorn, who currently holds nine world records, was also named one of
the top10 female athletes of the year by the United States Olympic
Committee in 1996.
At the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, Zorn was the top medalist for
the second consecutive Games, winning two gold, three silver and three
bronze medals. Zorn was an alternate to the 1980 Olympic Team and was
nominated as a candidate for Sports Illustrated's Sportswoman of the
Year in 1988.
Trischa began swimming at the age of seven at Mission Viejo, one of
the top swimming programs in the country. She trained alongside
well-known names like Cynthia Woodhead and Shirley Babashoff.
Trischa, who found success as a swimmer well before disabled athletes
were accepted into mainstream competition, swam in her first disabled
event in 1979. In addition, she received a full scholarship to the
University of Nebraska, where she earned NCAA All-America honors in
both backstroke and the 4x200-meter medley relay.
When she's not competing, Zorn teaches third and fourth graders with
special needs in Indianapolis.
