2006 Spin Clint Bowyer came out of nowhere to challenge Martin Truex Jr. for the Busch Series Championship last season. His steady performance, which included two wins and 22 top 10 finishes, earned him a shot at the Cup ranks in 2006 in Richard Childress' Jack Daniel's Chevy.
Gil Martin, the former crew chief on the No. 29 team, as well as Bowyer's Busch Series chief last season, will make the jump back to Cup to oversee the program. Martin is a proven team leader and has meshed well with Bowyer. These two should make a nice duo in years to come.
Bowyer, along with Truex and Denny Hamlin, should duke it out all season for top rookie honors. This is a talented class that could produce the most riveting rookie battle we've seen in years.
The best shot this team has at success should be at the short and plate tracks. Bowyer takes care of his equipment, and the consistency will come with time. In his lone Cup start at Phoenix, Bowyer received rave reviews from the media and fellow drivers. He completed all but one lap and kept the car clean all day.
The key to his success will be how long it takes Martin to get back in the routine of the Nextel Cup Series. With Bowyer running the entire Busch Series as well, his time will be stretched thin. Look for Bowyer to get more seat time than a New York City cab driver.
