Lotus will not get boost increase for race day

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) IndyCar officials have decided not to give Lotus engines added boost for Sunday's Indianapolis 500.

Only two cars are using the struggling engines. Simona de Silvestro qualified 32nd with a four-lap average of 214.393 mph on Sunday. Rookie Jean Alesi was the slowest qualifier at 210.094.

Some drivers, including Alesi, have expressed concern that the disparity between Ryan Briscoe's pole-winning speed of 226.484 and the two Lotus drivers could create a dangerous situation on the Brickyard's 2.5-mile oval.

Alesi now says that the new engines installed for Friday's final practice at Indy should help improve the speeds and that he is not as worried about becoming an impediment to other drivers on the track.
