Wallabies omit Damian Smith against W. Samoa

SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Winger Damian Smith was ruled out of the Australian rugby union team to play Western Samoa in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday after injuring his hand in training Thursday.

He was replaced by Mitch Hardy of ACT Brumbies for the South Pacific World Cup game at Brisbane's Ballymore stadium.

The Wallabies have already qualified for next year's World Cup after winning their opening two matches of the four-nation series against Fiji and Tonga.

The top three teams qualify for the finals, with the winners going to Pool E in Ireland. The fourth-placed side will get a second chance in the repechage competition.

Australia

Joe Roff, Jason Little, Daniel Herbert, Tim Horan, Damien Smith, Stephen Larkham, George Gregan, Willie Ofahengaue, David Wilson, Matthew Cockbain, John Eales (captain), Tom Bowman, Andrew Blades, Phil Kearns, Dan Crowley.
Reserves: Chris Whitaker, Nathan Grey, Mitch Hardy, Owen Finegan, Toutai Kefu, Glenn Panaho, Jeremy Paul.

Western Samoa
