World Cup squad named Brown, Beim only new caps to survive England's SH tourPosted: Tuesday September 29, 1998 10:49 AM
LONDON (Reuters) -- Wingers Tom Bein and Spencer Brown are the only new caps from England's unsuccessful Southern Hemisphere tour this year to survive in a squad of 26 for two World Cup qualifiers in November. A severely depleted England side failed to win a match on its tour of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The squad, announced by coach Clive Woodward on Tuesday, contains 12 players who were unavailable for the tour, including last season's captain Lawrence Dallaglio. It will train on Monday and Tuesday of next week. No captain has been named for the qualifiers against the Netherlands and Italy. "I've chosen the squad based on their performances since I became England coach," Woodward said. "The squad may be added to or changed for the next session on October the 25th and 26th and I will announce the captaincy before that meeting."
