Called onto the carpet IRB questions England officials over clubs' rowPosted: Thursday December 17, 1998 12:59 PM
LONDON (Reuters) -- England rugby union officials appear before the international governing body in Dublin on Thursday to defend themselves against charges that they have lost control of their clubs. England's leading clubs have appealed to the European Commission to allow them to conduct their own commercial and broadcasting agreements. A five-man International Rugby Board (IRB) disciplinary committee chaired by New Zealand's Tim Gresson will question officials from the Rugby Football Union. On Friday the committee will ask the Welsh Rugby Union to explain how the Cardiff and Swansea clubs have been allowed to play unauthorized games against English opponents.
