Spooner kicks Queensland to victory Posted: Friday March 12, 1999 05:50 PM
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) -- A week of goal kicking lessons earned Queensland a late win over the ACT on Friday, breaking a long-running Super 12 drought against the Brumbies in Super 12 rugby union. Queensland was outscored two tries to one but Nathan Spooner, who managed just two from seven last week, kicked five from six to give the Reds a 19-18 win, its first over the Australian side in Super 12. Spooner's last penalty goal, with under two minutes left, won the game. The Brumbies ever-willing defense was enough to swarm the Queenslanders who made several clean breaks.
