Kearns to miss NSW Super 12 match Posted: Wednesday March 17, 1999 04:00 PM
SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Australian international Phil Kearns withdrew Wednesday from the New South Wales team to play South Africa's Northern Bulls in a Super 12 rugby union match on Saturday. The Wallaby hooker injured his knee in last weekend's 36-30 win over the Chiefs that maintained the Waratahs' unbeaten start to this year's Southern Hemisphere provincial series. Kearns saw a specialist on Wednesday and was ordered to miss the game at the Sydney Football Stadium. He will have another examination next week, an NSW spokeswoman said. Former ACT Brumbies hooker Tim Tavalea replaces Kearns and Mark Crick joins the replacements' bench. The Bulls have lost their opening three Super 12 matches. They have made four changes to the side beaten 37-18 by the Wellington Hurricanes last weekend.
