BUCHAREST, Romania (Reuters) -- Romania sacked national rugby union team coach Mircea Paraschiv on Friday for allegedly creating tension in the squad during the World Cup.

"The Romanian Rugby Union Federation (FRR) released Paraschiv as its national team coach for creating a tense atmosphere within the team during the World Cup finals," FRR president Dumitru Mihalache told Reuters by telephone.

"Several players criticized coach Paraschiv over the bad results of the team," Mihalache said.

Mihalache also said the national team's deputy coach Alexandru Achim had quit after signing a contract abroad.

"The new technical leadership will be named in the next two weeks," Mihalache said.

Romania lost its matches against Australia and Ireland but beat the United States and finished third in pool E.
