BRISBANE (Reuters) -- Australia's World Cup winning captain John Eales has been ordered to rest for at least a month after undergoing surgery on Thursday.
The Wallaby skipper was operated on to repair hernia damage caused during Australia's successful World Cup campaign.
Queensland state team doctor Greg Smith said the veteran lock would be ready to resume playing in the southern hemisphere's Super 12 competition as long as he took a month off training to allow the injury to heal.
"It wasn't a big operation but it will probably take between three and three and a half weeks before he is fully functional again," Smith said.
Eales is the latest in a series of top Australian players, including Stephen Larkham and Tim Horan, to have faced surgery since the Wallabies' win over France in the World Cup final early last month.
