DUBLIN, May 25 (Reuters) -- Ireland captain Keith Wood will return to English club Harlequins next season, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) said on Thursday.

Wood has been playing for Irish club Garryowen and provincial side Munster this season as part of a year's loan agreement with Harlequins.

He will make a farewell appearance for Munster in the European Cup final against Northampton at Twickenham on Saturday.

"Keith Wood is contracted to Harlequins for a further two seasons and will be returning there," an IRFU spokesman said.

However, the IRFU has managed to keep rising star Brian O'Driscoll, 21, in Ireland under one of its central contracts.

Centre O'Driscoll became a target for a number of leading European clubs after his hat-trick of tries helped Ireland to a historic first win over France in Paris since 1972.

O'Driscoll has resisted a number of lucrative offers and will play for provincial team Leinster next season.
