GOSFORD, Australia (AP) -- Australia became the first national team to record a winning margin of more than 100 points when it beat the New Zealand Residents 108-0 in a rugby league World Cup warmup match Saturday.

Lock Bryan Fletcher had the honor of surpassing the 100-point barrier when he crossed for his only try of the night in the 76th minute to take the Australian tally to 19 tries before reserve Scott Hill made it a clen 20 tries in the 78th minute.

Australia also smashed a 47-year-old mark to record the biggest winning margin by a national team.

The Kangaroos' 20 tries and 14 goals tonight surpassed the previous record of 98-7 set by Australia when it embarrassed New Zealand provincial team Northland in 1953.

It was the third consecutive international in which Australia has won by big margins, beating New Zealand 52-0 and and Papua New Guinea 82-0.
