English roundup England captain's appeal to be reviewed Thursday
LONDON (Reuters) -- England captain Martin Johnson will have his appeal against a five-week ban for rough play heard by a three-man panel Thursday. Johnson, 30, was suspended last Thursday by a Rugby Football Union disciplinary committee for two incidents while playing for his club Leicester against Saracens last month. His ban expires one day before England's opening Six Nations championship match against Wales on February 3. Johnson decided at the weekend to appeal and has accepted the danger of getting the suspension lengthened. "Of course I don't want a a longer suspension but we feel this is the right thing to do," he said. In a statement Tuesday the Rugby Football Union said the appeal would be heard in Coventry at 1830 GMT on Thursday. Brooke quits Harlequins Former New Zealand All Black Zinzan Brooke has quit as head coach of English Premiership rugby union club Harlequins. "The results in the Premiership this season have not been acceptable," Brooke was quoted as saying on the BBC's website. Harlequins are 11th in the 12-team division, having won two of their 14 games this season.
