Different Tune Attacking rugby key to Super 12 success, says winger
BRISBANE, Australia (Reuters) -- Australian and Queensland winger Ben Tune said Tuesday the key to qualifying for this year's Super 12 semifinals was attacking rugby to pick up bonus points. Tune, who has recovered from off-season shoulder and ankle surgery, said the Reds would need to change their style of play from the forward-oriented approach favored by former coach John Connolly. Connolly was dumped after Queensland finished seventh last year and replaced by former Australian hooker Mark McBain. "We're trying a few new things," Tune said, adding that the outside backs would be encouraged to look for the ball more often this season. "You really have to pick up that bonus point if you plan to be in the top four come the semifinals. "The game has changed a lot over the years and it's about time we started adapting to the type of game that wins Super 12 competition." McBain said: "We've got to work towards making it a little bit more positive the way we play. "That doesn't mean we're going to throw it around all over the place. But we're just going to teach people to basically recognize when it's on and to make decisions on a football field." Queensland hosts Wellington in round one on February 24.
