BRISBANE (Reuters) -- Wallabies captain John Eales will make his first appearance this year Saturday when he plays for Queensland Reds in its Super 12 opener against Wellington Hurricanes in Brisbane.

The lock has recovered from a shoulder complaint which caused him to miss the pre-season trials.

Scott Fava will play as flanker in place of David Wilson while Steve Kefu takes over from another retired Australian international, Tim Horan, in the centre.

Queensland: 15-Chris Latham; 14-Ben Tune, 13-Daniel Herbert, 12-Steve Kefu, 11-Damian Smith; 10-Elton Flatley, 9-Jacob Rauluni; 8-Toutai Kefu, 7-Scott Fava, 6-Matt Cockbain, 5-John Eales (captain), 4-Mark Connors, 3-Fletcher Dyson, 2-Michael Foley, 1-Nick Stiles.

New-look Bulls

PRETORIA (Reuters) -- Bulls coach Phil Pretorius named a new-look team for their first Super 12 clash of the year with fellow South Africa side the Sharks in Durban on Friday.

The side includes just four players from the team that started their final match against the Hurricanes in 2000.

Casper Steyn, who played on the wing that day, will operate at fullback and assume the kicking duties.

Centre Danie van Schalkwyk retains his position as do number eight Anton Leonard and hooker Naka Drotske.

Scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen, who captains the Bulls -- the prefix Northern has been dropped this year -- makes his first appearance at the beginning of the Super 12 for three years.

Also included in the team are former Springbok wing McNeil Hendricks and current Springbok forwards Victor Matfield and Johan Wasserman.

Bulls: 15-Casper Steyn; 14-McNeil Hendricks, 13-Danie van Schalkwyk, 12-Franco Smith, 11-Friedrich Lombard; 10-Boeta Wessels, 9-Joost van der Westhuizen; 8-Anton Leonard, 7-Johan Wasserman, 6-Nicky van der Walt, 5-Victor Matfield, 4-Braam Els, 3-Johan Human, 2-Naka Drotske, 1-Frikkie Bosman

Super 12 expansion to be discussed

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) -- An independent firm of consultants is to be appointed by the SANZAR unions (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) to examine the possibility of expanding the Super 12 competition to include more teams.

The study was given the go-ahead by the chief executives of the three unions in a telephone conference Friday.

"We agreed on the appointment of consultants to examine expanding the Super 12 and on making other changes to the season," Rian Oberholzer, chief executive of SARFU, said Monday.

"They will be given their parameters by John O'Neill of Australia but the question of whether the competition remains as it is or is expanded by two, four or six teams will be left up to them. We want them to investigate."

The consultants will also examine a reversal of the Southern Hemisphere season, moving the Super 12 to the end of the domestic season rather than having it at the beginning.
