Still waiting Finegan made to sweat on Super 12 fate
SYDNEY (Reuters) -- ACT Brumbies flanker Owen Finegan will not find out until the eve of Saturday's Super 12 final whether he will be allowed to play, the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) said Thursday. Finegan, who was suspended for five weeks Sunday for stamping on the head of Queensland hooker Michael Foley during last week's semifinal, had his case adjourned at an appeals tribunal Thursday. The three-man South African New Zealand Australian rugby union alliance (SANZAR) tribunal decided after a hearing lasting almost three hours that it needed more time to consider the evidence. "It has been adjourned until tomorrow and a decision will be handed down at 2pm tomorrow," ARU spokesman Strath Gordon said. The Brumbies, beaten Super 12 finalists last year, host South Africa's Sharks in Saturday's final in Canberra. Finegan's current five-week ban lasts until June 24, less than a week before the first test against the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane on June 30. The blindside flanker has played 33 tests for Australia. He missed last year's Super 12 final because of a knee injury.
