SYDNEY (Reuters) -- Australia's rugby selectors Wednesday named 14 Wallabies in the Australia 'A' side to meet the touring British and Irish Lions side in Gosford next Tuesday in the tourists' fourth match of their 10-game tour.

The side will be captained by flanker Phil Waugh, Australia's Super 12 player of the year, and includes five other members of the current Wallaby squad -- Graeme Bond, Nathan Grey, David Lyons, Rod Moore and Chris Whitaker.

Coach Eddie Jones, who will replace Rod Macqueen in September as the new Wallaby coach, said the match would be an important chance for players on both sides to press for selection ahead of the first test on June 30.

"There are plenty of players here who showed great Super 12 form and who now have a chance to play at a higher level," Jones said.

"We have a good blend of experience and proven combinations which will help us. It's a tall order but there are plenty of blokes in this team with an obvious opportunity to impress the national selectors."

Jones, who led the ACT Brumbies to win this year's Super 12 title, said he had been impressed by the Lions performances on tour and they would be hard to beat.

"They have quality players right through the squad, and it appears they've blended together well already," he said.

"When you draw the best players from four top countries into one team, there are no weak links."

Australia A: 15-Richard Graham; 14-Mark Bartholomeusz, 13-Graeme Bond, 12-Nathan Grey, 11-Scott Staniforth; 10-Manuel Edmonds, 9-Chris Whitaker; 8-Jim Williams, 7-Phil Waugh (captain), 6-David Lyons, 5-Justin Harrison, 4-Tom Bowman; 3-Rod Moore, 2-Brendan Cannon, 1-Cameron Blades.

Replacements: 16-Sam Payne, 17-Julian Huxley, 18-James Holbeck, 19-Tom Murphy, 20-Patricio Noriega, 21-Peter Ryan, 22-Jono West.
