Spindrift, a junior at The Hockaday School, set a national independent-school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.66), breaking the mark of Olympian Caroline Bruce. She has qualified for the Olympic trials in three events (200 individual medley, 100 and 200 breast).
Marcus, a senior running back at Reagan High, rushed for a city-record 3,374 yards and scored 45 touchdowns, was named the Texas Class 5A offensive player of the year and was selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He finished his high school career with 25 straight games of 100 or more rushing yards.
Vicki Spratford
HOPELAWN, N.J. > Bowling
Spratford, a senior at New Jersey City University, placed first and was named the MVP of consecutive events: the Fairleigh Dickinson University Holiday Jamboree and the St. Paul's College Tournament. A three-time All-America, she leads the Gothic Knights with a 203.3 average, helped by a 297 game at FDU.
Andy Tiedt
AKRON, N.Y. > Soccer
Andy, a senior forward at Akron High, scored a state-record 62 goals this season and finished his career with 126, tying for eighth in New York history. He led the Tigers to a 21-2 record, Section VI and Western Region championships, and an appearance in the state Class B semifinal.
Lauren Jacobsen
TOLUCA LAKE, CALIF. > Cycling
Jacobsen, 52, an interior designer who took up cycling three years ago, set an age-group world record for women 50 to 54 years old at the UCI Track Cycling World Masters Championships. She completed the 500-meter time course in 39.7 seconds, becoming the first woman in her age group to break 40 seconds.
Tico Baez
HOMESTEAD, FLA. > Wrestling
Tico, a senior at South Dade High, won the clinching 135-pound bout as the Buccaneers beat Brandon 32-28 and snapped the Eagles' national-record 459-match winning streak. As a junior he went 55-0 and won the 130-pound state championship; as a sophomore he was 41-4 and won the 125-pound title.
