Spencer, a junior at Port Angeles High, earned a gold medal in a national school-age clean-and-jerk record (379 pounds) for the 208-plus pound weight class at the Sub 17 Pan Am Games and won silvers in the snatch and all-around. He also has two national titles.
Angelica, a junior forward at Timpanogos High, has scored 26 goals -- her 1.53 goals-per-game average is second in the state -- and has led the Timberwolves to a 14-3 record and the Class 5A semifinals. She is a two-time all-region player.
CHATTANOOGA > Volleyball
Newberry, a senior libero at Tennessee-Chattanooga, set the NCAA record for career digs: She has 2,879. Last year she broke the national record for digs in a season, with 942, and was named National Libero of the Year by Collegiate Volleyball Update. Her 51 digs in a match against Wofford are second alltime.
WINDSOR, ONT. > Cross-country
Malette, a senior at Wayne State, won the Slippery Rock Pre-National Cross Country Meet, completing the 6K in 21:35 and winning by 33 seconds. Fifth at last year's Division II championship, she has won seven of her last 11 collegiate meets and has finished in the top five in 18 of her last 19 races.
CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL. > Golf
Nick, a freshman at Crystal Lake South High, is the first ninth-grader to win individual titles at the Fox Valley Conference and Prairie Ridge Regional championships; he won the latter in a record four-under par 68. This summer he was named McHenry County Junior Golf Association player of the year.
MILLBROOK, N.Y. > Football
Nick, a senior running back at Millbrook High, scored a state-record 58 points in a 66-57 victory over Tri-Valley. He ran 41 times for 485 yards and had eight touchdowns and five two-point conversions; his yards and TDs rank second in state history.
