Alexis Martinez
PEMBROKE PINES, FLA. > Taekwondo

Alexis, a junior at Archbishop McCarthy High, was named outstanding female athlete at the USA Taekwondo Junior Olympics after taking gold in the junior welterweight class, winning three matches by a combined 49-9. She won bronze in the adult bantamweight class at the USAT national championships.

Alexandra Weber
DALLAS > Triathlon

Weber, a sophomore at Texas A&M, won the sprint race at the Capital of Texas Triathlon to qualify for the world championships in Australia next month. She defeated 306 women and all but five of the 477 men in the race. Two weeks later she won the Danskin Triathlon in Austin, besting a field of nearly 2,000 women.

Leland McPhie
SAN DIEGO > Track and Field

McPhie, 95, broke the American men's shot put record in the 95- to 99-year-old division at the USA Masters outdoor championships. His throw of 22' 6 1/2" beat the previous mark by nearly a foot. McPhie, who competes for the So Cal Track Club, also holds Masters 95 world records in the high jump (3' 1 1/4") and triple jump (13' 0").

David Sender
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILL. > Gymnastics

Sender, 23, won gold in the rings, vault and horizontal bar at the World Maccabiah Games. He was the silver medalist in the pommel horse and the all-around. The 2008 USA Gymnastics all-around champion, he took first in rings and vault at the Winter Cup Challenge and second in the all-around at the Tyson American Cup earlier this year.

Christine Bator
WARREN, MICH. > Bowling

Bator, a sophomore at Macomb Community College, won gold in the singles, doubles (with Brittni Hamilton) and trios (with Jenn Boisselle and Kristie Petravich) at the Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships in Bogota, Colombia. She also helped Junior Team USA win the team event.

Darren and Darrel Barnes
ST. LOUIS > Weightlifting

Darren and Darrel, sophomores at McCluer North High, won the 56-kg and 62-kg classes, respectively, in the 14-15 division at the National School Age Championships. Darren set the tournament record for the 56-kg class snatch with a lift of 196 pounds.
