Emily Zabor
Marietta, Ga. > Tennis

Emily, a senior at Walton High, defeated Norcross High’s Cameron Williams (6-3, 6-0) to lead the Lady Raiders to their eighth state title in a row and 147th straight match win, extending the Georgia record for consecutive victories in any sport. An All-America, Emily was undefeated in individual play this year and will compete next year at Alabama.

Thomas Tyner
Aloha, Ore. > Track and Field, Football

Thomas, a sophomore at Aloha High, won the Oregon 6A 100-meter title (10.48) and anchored the 4??100 relay team to a state-record 41.45 seconds. He broke the 100-meter state record three times this spring and holds the current mark of 10.43. Last fall he led the Warriors to their first football state title and was named Oregon offensive player of the year.

Samantha Oberholzer
Bellevue, Wash. > Rowing

Oberholzer, a senior coxswain at Western Washington, led the women’s varsity eight to victory over defending NCAA D-II champion Mercyhurst by two boatlengths at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., to help the Vikings to a seventh consecutive team title. It was the fourth trip to nationals for Oberholzer, who was an All-America selection.

Robert Stineman
Winnetka, Ill. > Tennis

Robert, a senior at New Trier High, defeated teammate Jared Hiltzik (6-2, 6-2), becoming the program’s first athlete to win back-to-back state titles as the Trevians took their second straight team title. Winner of the USTA’s boys’ 18 singles national open in February, he was named Midwest player of the year and is ranked No. 6 nationally. He will compete next year at Stanford.

Chase Ealey
Los Alamos, N.M. > Track and Field

Chase, a junior at Los Alamos High, set a state record in the shot put (42' 33/4") and anchored the record-setting 4x100 relay team (49.05) at the 4A state championships in Albuquerque. She also won the 100-meter dash (12.52) and the javelin (124'1"), and led off the third-place 4 200-meter relay to earn high-point honors (25) and lead the Hilltoppers to a third straight state title.

Steven Perry
Maxwell, Calif. > Baseball

Steven and teammate Tyler Wells (below), senior pitchers at Maxwell High, combined to set a national record for no-hitters in a season (11), including an 11-0 win over Tulelake to cap off a perfect 30-0 season for the D-V state title, in which Steven fanned the last three batters to share in the win after Tyler struck out 14 through six innings. At season’s end, he pitched a state record five individual no-hitters and combined with Tyler for three. The duo also established a state shutout record (18) and Steven tied the state record for the consecutive no-hitters (4), and set state marks in consecutive shut-outs (7), consecutive hitless innings (24 1/3) and career runs scored (211).

Tyler Wells
Maxwell, Calif. > Baseball

Tyler and teammate Steven Perry (above), senior pitchers at Maxwell High, combined to set a national record for no-hitters in a season (11), including an 11-0 win over Tulelake to cap off a perfect 30-0 season for the D-V state title in which Tyler struck out 14 through six innings, then asked the coach to put in Steven, his best friend, who fanned the last three batters. At season’s end, he pitched three individual no-hitters and combined with Steven for three more. The duo also established a state shutout record (18) and Tyler set state marks in consecutive pitching wins (35), single-season and career RBIs (78, 213) and career doubles (62).
