Our Cover Quintet (With Sidekicks)
SI's preview issue dropped today (on the Internet, at least -- you'll have to wait a day or two for it to hit your mailbox). I figured I'd post shots of the five regional covers ... including the first ever for the University of Wisconsin. Who had Brian Butch in that office pool?
One footnote: The Badgers did appear in the background of an old cover, getting posterized 1975-style by Indiana "Super Sub John Laskowski." And Washington, if you were wondering, has been on the cover twice, both for football: Sonny Sixkiller, in 1971, and Bob Schloredt, in 1960.
Greg Oden has yet to play a college game, Noah is overrated, and Big Baby isn't quite refined. Quit your whining about these covers. All these teams are gonna get cursed anyway for just being there....well excepts maybe my Heels they did pretty well on that preseason cover back in '05
if u haven't noticed the covers are shot by regions, so why would nick fazekas be on the cover instead of Brian Butch? Seriously dude who even gives a crap about Nevada anyway? By the way the only thing Greg Oden has proved is that he is a dominating high school player, how about u wait until he actually plays a college game to start touting him as dominating everyone on the covers...u must prove urself before u can get attention.
Hey Florida and UNC fans, how do ya like that, KU is no.1 as far as SI goes and not 2nd or 3rd as the other crummy magazines state. So when your reading your SI Magazine and crying over why, why, why be sure not to get any ideas of transfering to KU, cause we dont want ya! Florida 11-25-06, victim no. 2, dont know yet, but get in line, we'll take on the whole country, the NBA too!!
It's a "friend of a friend" kind of thing, but I've read that SI approached Florida about doing a regional cover, but were told that it was the whole team or no photo at all. SI chose the latter option.
We all know that preseason rankings mean very little, especially when it comes to who is 1,2, or 3. But you are right, I have been thinking why, why, why did Roy Williams come back to UNC to win a national championship rather than have two first round knockouts like Kansas? It boggles the mind. You do better than us in March and end up higher in the rankings, I give you permission to gloat. Until then, work on beating Oral Roberts.
Another year of Kansas being overated...why do the supposed experts tout this program every year? Oral Roberts enrollment = 4,000 and KU = 20,000 with national recruiting. I guess the early season schedule of "safety" games AT HOME were too much to handle...try Division II or III next year.
Ummm..to the guy that was bragging on Kansas...how's that working out for you now? Bet that loss to Oral Roberts stung a little bit. It must really suck to lose to a bunch of future tele-vangelist! Seriously, how can you be considered a "legit" championship contender when you cant beat third best team in the Mid-Continental Conference??? As usual Kansas will have a strong regular season then have their empty scrotums handed to them no later than the second round of the tourney.
