Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me in press row; I only used it to take the pregame shot at the top of this post. Anyone get a good picture of the Samberg/Timberlake-inspired signage? Hopefully the Heels found it amusing. Hard to get ticked about anything when you're beating a Top 25 team, on the road, by 28.
Is UNC THAT good? I mean, I have followed them a bit, and it seems like they have 2 legitimate losses, but they learned from them and are now easily the best team in the nation? Especially given the other top 4 conferences?
Congrats to UNC. Great game. But, don't count out the Cats. Remember they finished 5th! in the PAC 10 in 1997 and won the NCAA Title. And, what school has the longest consecutive 20 win season and longest consecutive trips to the NCAAs?? Hmmmm....Go 'Cats! They'll be a factor come March....Congrats, again, to Roy Williams and the Tar heels. Hope to see ya again in the NCAAS.
UNC is THAT good. That being said, they are still capable of laying an egg (i.e. Gonzaga and the middle 30 minutes of the VT game.) The bottom line is, IF UNC plays there best, no one in the country can beat them. I also agree with John Z... I think 'Zona will be the toughest out in the NCAAs of all the Pac-10 teams. There (lack of) depth won't be an issue b/c of the extended TV T.O.s.
It was a beating from hell... no, I mean from North Carolina. As a Wildcat fan this was tough to watch and I am not sure what exactly is wrong with Lute's team. It has been downhill ever since the 12-1 mark.
Even after such an incredible mismatch against the Tar Heels and a clear indication that this team has lost all confidence, some fans keep hanging on to 1997. Every year, when it is clear that the team is in trouble, the comparisons with 1997 come out. I hate to say it but after watching Saturday's horror show, there will be no National Championship for Tucson, trust me. That trophy might very well end up in the hands of Roy Williams this year.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here john z. I am an Arizona alum and have much respect for the program. However, when you look at the situation from an unbiased point of view, there's not much hope left in this season. The Cats aren't playing defense, not because their tired or uninspired, but because they just can't (case in point...Chase). This team does not know how to get in front of anyone driving the lane (example: 21 layups/dunks by UNC). The streak of NCAA tourny appearance will continue solely based on the strength of schedule being #1 and their RPI. However, we've officially (well, at the start of last season) seen the end of a powerhouse and the begin of the progam's mediocrity. Solution...hire Mark Few.
UNC is THAT GOOD! I know Zona has been struggling lately and played completely without enthusiam, but how can you not get pumped up when the North Carolina Tar Heels come to town especially since they are one of the best in the nation hands down. This shows though how good the bench of the Heels is, Deon Thompson and Alex Stephenson could start for most any team in the country and they showed why on Saturday. Look for the Heels to march to Atlanta come March and hopefully cut down the nets with Roy's second title in three years. GO HEELS!!!
