Talk hoops all year long in Luke Winn's blog, a journal of commentary, news and reader-driven discussions about the college game.
Cover Band![]() SI's Preview Issue dropped today, with five regional covers. Gardner-Webb/Mercer barely missed the cut. Our Top 20 -- as voted on by the SI panel -- is here. Carolina, Duke, Texas and Texas A&M are mine, as is the "rivalry" bit that's teased on the cover. But that's a four-page foldout you'll have to peruse in print. (A clarification for all the comments-section folk complaining about the lack of Duke-UNC or Kentucky-Louisville covers ... the concept inside the magazine is NEW rivalries, not classic ones. So their omission was intentional. Georgetown-'Cuse, obviously, is not new, but was included as a "reheated" rivalry after going through a down period for much of the decade.) 10 Comments:You mention college hoops rivalries, and forget my Tar Heels against the Dookies?
I know Duke is due for a down year, but the Tar Heels are preseason #1, so I'm pretty sure they should be on a cover. And Syracuse isn't even ranked, so Duke-UNC should've replaced that one. how is carolina-duke not on a cover?
What? No Kansas VS. Kansas State!!!!
Thanks... I live in Missouri, and as a Hoosier fan and much of my family being Illini fans, I BETTER get the Hoosier - Illini one.
GO HOOSIERS! GO BIG TEN (except Purdue, of course)! Oklahoma State vs Kansas is a bigger rivalry than Texas A&M/Texas in hoops.
=\ Duke-UNC is always on the cover. Everyone is sick of Duke-UNC. Syracuse-Georgetown is a rivalry with a great history. Now that Georgetown is "back" the rivalry is as hot as ever. I'm not saying Duke-UNC isn't a good rivalry, I think it is probably the best in college b-ball. It's just that people are getting tired of seeing them on the cover of every publication.
where is the louisville kentucky rivalry.... missed that one for sure.... how do you pick tennesee and memphis, but not louisville and kentucky
Good selections. Enough Carolina/Duke stuff - we get it, you're a good rivalry. Other people play ball, too.
too bad USC isn't doing too much to help their rivalry with UCLA...what about the 90's classic Arizona-UCLA?
