Postcard Extras: North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- A few extras from Tuesday's Carolina Postcard (which you're encouraged to read first): • The photo above is the Tar Heels' Tywon Lawson, sitting at the counter of the classic Chapel Hill lunch joint Sutton's, which is also a fully functioning pharmacy. The pharmacist there joked with Lawson during his meal that the point guard had a second career in entertainment. Just three days earlier the team had put on its Late Night With Roy Williams festivities, where Lawson had acted in a spoof of Williams' Coke commercial as well as performed a few dances that he wasn't too interested in describing. • Lawson said he's been killing time lately by playing Guitar Hero for XBox360. Warrant's Cherry Pie is his current song of choice. I mentioned in the Postcard that he showed me a Lil' Wayne YouTube on his iPhone, but he had not yet seen the famed '80s Cherry Pie vid ... which now seems so PG compared to the average rap video from this decade. • In other video game news ... Bobby Frasor said that he and Tyler Hansbrough have mostly dropped their Texas-Style Ping Pong routine in favor of playing NCAA Football 2008. Frasor uses Hawaii, for Colt Brennan. Hansbrough uses West Virginia, for Pat White and Steve Slaton on the option. "He just runs the option all day, and it's a cheat, because that game is not realistic on the option," said Frasor. "I'm tackling him to the ground and he magically pitches the ball -- it just pisses me off."
• Finally, some hardcore basketball analysis, to accompany the two pictures of Carolina practice: If you were wondering how rare it is to win a large amount of games while playing at North Carolina's pace, here were the top 10 teams in adjusted possessions per game from 2006-07, and their final records against D-I teams (via kenpom.com):
