Day at the races

As it turns out, I may not be the world's greatest gambler after all. Fresh off hitting the Kentucky Derby trifecta for a cool $413.50, I placed some Preakness bets with full confidence. After all, I was relying on the advice of SI's Gene Menez.

And I did, in fact, nail the trifecta one again. Alas, this time the trio of Curlin, Street Sense and Hard Spun paid a mere $50. After accounting for OTB's cut and my other (losing) wagers on the race, I actually lost $9. It was like winning the NBA's Atlantic Division -- meaningless. So it looks like I'll be keeping my day job after all, to the chagrin of Barry Bonds and Kobe Bryant supporters everywhere.

You call this a job?
Hell, I do more than you, and I'm a GOVERNMENT employee.

Anon. 1:08 p.m., You make a very fair point. Though at least nobody's tax dollars are going to pay my salary, which is probably best for everyone. -- Thanks, Pete
