Working for the weekend

• A bomb threat was called into the Spurs' team hotel in Phoenix on Tuesday night. Fortunately nothing happened. It could have been bad, though; the Spurs had all refused to leave the bench in the hotel lobby for fear of getting suspended.

• Nuggets center Marcus Camby has turned down a chance to join Team USA. Camby says he's still shopping for a team that can actually win a championship.

• I just hopped over to a nearby OTB to place some Preakness wagers in order to sqander my winnings from hitting the Kentucky Derby trifecta. As before, I took my cues from SI's Gene Menez, and suggest you do the same. Tip: His long shot for the exotics is Xchanger. (And BTW, OTB on a weekday is a very frightening place; there's nothing like the pungent combination of cigarette smoke, body odor and raw desperation right after lunch.)

• I'm ducking out a tad early today so I can fly to Utah for the wedding of my cousin, James Farrelly. Loyal readers will recognize James as the starting offensive tackle for the 10 Spot's official college football team, New Mexico State. Never fear -- or be very afraid, depending on your point of view -- the NMSU updates will return this fall for James' senior season and first as a married man.
