Pete Rose has something to say to your kids

It can't be easy being Pete Rose these days. After all, the Hit King managed to get himself banned for life by breaking what essentially ranks as the sport's only rule -- Don't bet on baseball. Yet all anyone talks about is Barry Bonds, a guy who ranks a mere second on the home run list and who hasn't actually been nailed for anything illegal. (Not yet, anyway.) Why aren't we giving Pete his due as baseball's greatest cheater?

Fortunately for Pete, he knows ways to keep himself in the public eye. Last week, it was by cursing liberally in front of 7- to 14-year-olds. The Cincinnati Enquirer recounts Rose's off-color chat at the U.S. Army Reds Legends Baseball Camp.

"It was a complete embarrassment," said Staff Sgt. Steven Tischer. "You don't swear in front of kids, that's just common sense. He dropped the F-bomb and the S-bomb. He told them winning is everything and if you get second place you're just losers."

Now that's inspiring! Plus there's this feedback from a mom at the event: "It was like an uncle at Thanksgiving you want to stick in a back corner. The kids were very uncomfortable. They said the only thing they got out of it was that Pete Rose has a potty mouth."

I love the thought of Pete Rose as the crazy uncle at Thanksgiving. "Say, Joey, can you pass the &%#@ gravy? I like a little lubrication, if you know what I mean ... Oh come on, sis, the kid's 10 now, he can take it. Jeez. Why is everyone so uptight?"

Wow, that's innapropriate. Unless, of course, he was eating some unbelievalby good fat free frozen yogurt at the time.
Rose sounds a lot like Tony Stewart.
The little bastards deserved every word.

Some quote form the mom. I cant see any kid saying that. Talk about overdramatic.

They wanted his advice on how to be the best, and he gave it to them. Honest advice without PC. Charlie didn't hustle beacuse everyone is a winner even if you loose. Charlie hustled beacuse wining was everything to him. Thats only how he became the all time leader in hits...

don't be a knucklehead, 'winning is everything' is crap, you don't have to water things down but you don't need to act like a jerk either. Pete Rose has no class, and nothing to offer.

Unless this Pete McEntegart dude was there, then he should keep his mouth shut. He has no idea exactly what Pete said. There's too much "he said, she said" crap goin' around. Don't report second hand info. Report the facts!

Pete Rose is a liar and a cheater...and now he has proven that the only person in the world he cares about is himself. What person in his right mind would speak to impressionable youngsters in the manner in which he did? This has NOTHING to do with political correctness. It has EVERYTHING to do with common sense. What a complete and utter fool Pete Rose is.
Exactly what I would expect from Pete rose. What a class (ooops, I meant crass) act. He continues to display the same intelligence as when he bet on baseball. He clearly does not get it.
Guess Pete Rose is *still* pond scum.

Pete Rose has no class: pure and simple.
When I was 6-8 years old Pete Rose was signing autographs at a card show. Unknowing I walked up to him at the table, where he pointed to a cashier and told me that I needed to "go pay for his autograph". Rose is, and always will be a disgrace to baseball. He belongs no where near the hall of fame.
Still not too late for Jenn to pick a new team . . .

There are two distincly different threads of conversation: First, is he a classless idiot degenerate cheater. Second, does he belong inthe HOF based upon his playing credentials. I think people mix them up, and that is not fair. By contemporary standards, Babe Ruth was a boozer. Ty Cobb, by any standards, was a jackass. I personally cannot stand Pete Rose ( Since the 1973 incident with Bud Harrelson). HIs autograph pricing, and now this cursing nonsense establish him as a moron of the highest degree, with whom I would never associate. However, I have to give credit where deserved. He ought to be in the HOF, as a player. Put us a display in Cooperstown, near the Blacksox Scandal, and embarrass him as a manager. But as a player, he should be in.

I find the 3:37AM comment about Pete McEntegart being there rather amusing/ridiculous. How much news would we really get if we depended on first-hand accounts? That would make for a boring newscast...

[News reporter] "Well, I was at home all day today, so I can't report on anything tonight. Stay classy, San Diego."

As for Rose....HOF player, but that's about it.
"If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?" - Lombardi

"If you can accept losing you can't win." - Lombardi

"Winning is not everything, but wanting to win is." - Lombardi

Now, there is a non-candy coated advice on how to be a winner given by a man with class.

You don't need to be a jerk and use foul language (no matter who the audience is) to get your point across. Unfortunately, our society has lost the ability to show emotion or make an emphatic point without cursing.

Barry Bonds affected the sport as badly as Pete Rose did...if not, worse! Neither one could make their teams win by cheating, but they were equally at fault
