SI.com college football writer Stewart Mandel shares his commentary, analysis and random tidbits on the latest developments around the country.
The Scene from MorgantownI spent about 45 minutes roaming around the lots outside Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday. It's miserably cold up here in the Alleghenies -- my hands were numb in about five minutes -- and yet no one seems to care. VERY rowdy here; 60 minutes of football remain between the Mountaineers and the national title game, but the scene already feels celebratory rather than tense.
Above are two of the better WVU fans I encountered during my wanderings. On the left is Ed Crowder, a 1987 graduate of the school who made his signature car flag -- "In Rod We Trust" -- for coach Rich Rodriguez's first season in 2000. Crowder already had plane tickets booked for his family to New Orleans. On the right is Gregory Watterson, a WVU senior who, for the record, is not the school's official mascot. "I sewed this thing myself," he told me; he's been wearing the Mountaineer suit for the past two seasons. Below, the greater lot scene under Crowder's flag ...

Comments:The curse of the orange pants lives on! The last time Tennessee wore orange pants with orange jerseys in a big game, they lost a game they should have won. Chuck the odds makers' foretelling. If you watched this game, The Vols had the opportunities to win. They didn't execute well enough to pull it off. Tennessee, please leave the orange on orange look to Clemson.
WVU is NOT the 2nd best team in the nation. No way, no how. You don't let a horrid Pitt team come into your home stadium, when you're trying to seal up a National Championship bid and have a 7-0 lead.
