SI.com college football writer Stewart Mandel shares his commentary, analysis and random tidbits on the latest developments around the country.
Hester a Cult Hero; OSU Wrinkle?
Like them, I was feeling pretty “banged up” there in the days right before and after New Year’s (as a result of some poor “game management” on my part), but following a much-needed good night’s rest, I’m feeling recharged and ready for the stretch run here leading up to Monday night’s game. • LSU running back Jacob Hester has become something of a cult hero among Tigers followers, revered for his blue-collar mentality and seemingly overachieving production. At Friday’s media event featuring the Tigers’ offense, Hester was by far the most deluged by reporters, finally needing a school escort to whisk him out the door after a sea of television cameras cornered him following his scheduled session. You can tell offensive coordinator Gary Crowton flat out adores the versatile tailback/fullback, making no bones about the fact he’s the No. 1 priority in LSU’s running game despite the presence of flashier runners like Keiland Williams and Trindon Holliday. “Jacob is going to get his carries, and the others [depend] on how the game develops,” said Crowton. Wide receiver Early Doucet offered the most succinct explanation, however, for why the 6-foot, 228-pound Hester is so universally beloved by both his team and its fans. “If you looked at him walking down the street, you wouldn’t even think he’s a football player,” said Doucet. “He’s deceptively athletic.” • Rumors have been circulating this week that Ohio State is planning to utilize mobile backup quarterback Antonio Henton as a “wrinkle” against LSU. Henton, who was suspended for seven games following an arrest for soliciting a prostitute and was not reinstated until the Buckeyes’ regular-season finale against Michigan, attempted just six passes and seven runs all season. But the buzz among those who cover the Buckeyes regularly is that OSU -- perhaps taking a cue from Florida’s use of Tim Tebow in last year’s title game -- has something up its sleeve. “I'd be surprised if he doesn't play," said receiver Brian Hartline. "He's going to add one of those wrinkles we were talking about. That's something you have to game plan for.” If it’s true, Buckeyes offensive coordinator Jim Bollman certainly isn’t tipping his hand. “Is it a plan to put him in the third series or something?” said Bollman. “I don’t foresee it.” • LSU players on Friday recounted the amusing tale of how they found out their once-vanquished title hopes had been resuscitated. On their charter flight back from Atlanta following the Dec. 1 SEC championship game in Atlanta, the pilot relayed updates from the ground regarding the brewing Pittsburgh-West Virginia upset “about 15 times,” said quarterback Matt Flynn. For the Oklahoma-Missouri game, however, the pilot could only provide the final score, and even then with the caveat that he “wasn’t 100 percent sure this is right.” “Me and Matt were sitting together, and I said, ‘If he’s [wrong], I’m throwing him off this plane when we land,’ ” said Hester. “It was a little nerve-wracking until my cell phone came on.” • Tonight will provide a rare opportunity for some of us in the media to interact informally with one of the sport’s reigning coaching darlings -- and the engineer of a huge Orange Bowl victory just 24 hours earlier, no less. The Football Writers Association is holding a reception here to honor Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year recipient Mark Mangino, whose remarkable turnaround job at Kansas reached its crowning moment with Thursday night’s win over Virginia Tech. With the win, the Jayhawks finished their season with an astounding 12-1 record and presented a unique challenge for pollsters like me when it comes time to fill out our final ballots: In what order should one rank 11-3 Oklahoma (which won the Big 12 but got crushed by West Virginia earlier this week), 12-2 Missouri (which crushed Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl but lost twice to the Sooners) and 12-1 Kansas (which lost to the Tigers)? • Finally, while there are only about 8,000 fine dining establishments here in the Crescent City, I can at least offer a first-hand endorsement to Dick & Jenny’s, a quaint but revered spot in the city’s “Uptown” area where myself, colleagues Austin Murphy and Mark Beech and a couple guests dined last night. The food was phenomenal.

Comments:Here's hoping Ohio State doesn't try to get too fancy with its offense in the title game. Use the pass to set up the run early on, then pound with Beanie over and over until LSU proves it can stop him. Keep 'em honest with play action and see what happens. Go Bucks.
I have never been this anxious, nervous, and excited about a football game. I don't know what to expect from OSU.
Go Bucks!!! I love terms like "blue collar", "overachieving", and "deceptively athletic" to describe Jacob Hester. If I didn't already know what he liked like, it would be easy to guess.
I wouldn't expect Antonio Henton to play unless something happened to Boeckman. It would be a completely un-Tressel-like move. Look for the Buckeyes to come out like Michigan in the Capital One Bowl, opening up the playbook like never before. You'll see direct snaps to Saine/Small, double-reverses, and other trick plays. Lots of corner blitzes, etc.
If the Buckeyes are going to lose, they will lose by putting it all on the line. Geez, enough stereotypes in that description of Hester to make anyone cringe. At least Mandel stopped short of calling him "heady."
un-Tressel-like? This season has been surprisingly risky in the passing game. All of us Buckeyes thought Beanie would have 6000 rushing yards and Boeckman would have 100 yards passing. Tresselball is becoming more and more rare. I sense a lot of Boeckman keepers. He showed surprising ability to scramble the last few games.
The LSU-OSU game will be anticlimactic. West Virginia already looked like the national champion by kncking off alleged "powerhouse" Oklahoma Wednesday night in one of the most lopsided butt-kickings of this year's bowl season. Geez, OU didn't even look like they DESERVED to be in the Fiesta Bowl and, yet, I'd bet they'd have been included in a play-off because, like Ohio State, they're ALWAYS OVERRATED. West Virginia should be the national champion for winning so convincingly over the Big 12 champion and what everyone had hyped as THE strongest team. Anybody wanna bet the BCS "championship" game ends up looking somewhat like this year's Ohio State-Michigan contest?
By the way, I hope everyone who's been dissing the Big East for the past two years realizes that, right now, Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners have lost as many BCS bowl games in those same two years as the entire Big East Conference, combined. What's up with that? Is the Fiesta Bowl committee going to let Stoops keep playing in the Fiesta Bowl until he wins and can have a lolly-pop?!?
Can anybody tell me one team who's played anywhere this post-season in any collegiate bowl game who looked like they were ready and capable of beating the West Virginia Mountaineers in the post-season? Not USC. Not Michigan. Not Kansas. Not Mizzou (who lost big-time to Oklahoma). The Mountaineers put an historic beat-down on Oklahoma that should have ensured at least a share of the BCS championship. If the BCS 'championship' game goes anything like Ohio State-Michigan, neither team will deserve to be called "champion."
BTW, it won't take a play-off for anybody to see that West Virginia's performance in the Fiesta Bowl will be the "gold standard" for bowl victories this BCS season. West Virginia produced more and bigger plays in that one game than Ohio State has in 3/4 of the regular season; more than LSU in half the season.
Pittfan: Give it a rest!!!! West Virginia played a hell of a game, but they are not the best team in the nation. And sorry to burst your bubble but the Big Least ain't that hot either. Who do you have West Virginia then..............Don't worry I will wait.........................Nobody! West Virginia beating the Big 12 champion means just that, the beat the Big 12 champ. That don't make them world beaters. Beat USC? Doubt it. Missouri? Doubt it. Michigan? (Healthy) Doubt it. Kansas? Maybe. They played a great game lastnight but their defense isn't that good week in and week out.
Earth to Stewart... Earth to Stewart... You don't have to worry about ranking Oklahoma anymore -- They should be ranked BELOW Big 12 rival Texas Tech which, at least, managed to win its bowl game against Virginia and also, by the way, defeated Oklahoma in the regular season. So, there you go -- If you're still wondering how far down to move Oklahoma or how far up to move Texas Tech, that should help.
As for the West Virginia Mountaineers? In my book, THEY are the mythical national champions based simply on quallity of win. I would be pleasantly surprised if either LSU or Ohio State pull off as superb a bowl performance as West Virginia has when they play in the BCS 'championship' bowl. I'll acknowledge that Kansas had an historic season... for Kansas. But, as you noted earlier this year, their 12-1 record (now) might reflect the fact that they never played Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech. That's like getting a "pass" on three potential conference losses. In the end, the schedule Kansas played should really be considered "Big 12 Lite." West Virginia would run over Michigan. Michigan was lucky to hang in with a young Florida team. I'm glad they won, but, considering Michigan's year... it was a FLUKE.
Right now, michiganman, the Big East is 8-2 in the last two post-seasons, with Rutgers's projected win over Ball State coming tomorrow. That's not the "Least" of interconference records, I'd bet.
But there you go, michiganman, losing to Appalachian State and, then, dissing a more competitive conference than your own.
But to say something nice: Michigan has a great fight song. Unfortunately, for most of the season, there was more fight in the song than in the team.
But how 'bout that Joe Paterno? You can tell he's getting old -- His hair's actually looking like he washed and dried it. But still, he beat A&M. I hope I can run across a football field when I'm 81.
pitt... palease !
wvu choked huge against the likes of pitt and then beat ou, who as you say didnt even belong in a bcs game . so what I'm signing off. I need to move on. It's 2008. The Pitt Panthers are already having another great recruiting year. Our young team is coming of age and gearing up for a title run...
That win was a Fluke? How? The season for them was a fluke! They got lucky? No they got healthy!! Lucky to beat the same team that destroyed Tennessee. If I recall Tennessee was in the SEC title game. The same team that has "Superman" for a Quarterback. Get real. Michigan beat them fair and square in their house. Actually the stomped them. 4 turnovers and still won. So you telling me Pat White can turn it over 4 times and still pull off a will against any "Big Conference" team? I doubt it very seriously. The Big East better than the Big Ten? OK? Yeah they lost to App. State, so would Pitt. Oh wait, didn't Pitt beat the Great West Virginia at their place? Rutgers over BALL STATE? Who cares?!!! That was a worthless comment. By the way. That bowl record is really tainted when you are playing Ball State and Southern Mississippi. Play some BCS conferences, and WIN then we will talk!
Before I go, milehi: I didn't say OU didn't belong in a bowl game. I said they looked like they didn't deserve to be in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, on the same field with West Virginia. But that might only have been because they were embarassed by the level of their competition, the BIG EAST CO-CHAMPIONS.
Here are some brainstormed thoughts on OSU and where they stand going into the game:
The outcome of this game will be determined by Boeckman. In the Illinois and Michigan games, we saw him under-perform and not take care of the ball in certain conditions: -Beanie's hurting. -The o-line's even slightly off with their protection. -The weather's bad. He doesn't have to worry about the weather in the Superdome, and Beanie should be okay with 50 days rest while knowing that he only needs to get through the biggest game of his life. So, that leaves the obvious; whoever wins in the trenches, wins the title. I have complete faith that Boeckman will perform like an all-American if he can count on consistent protection. This will be helped a lot if Beanie can run, and the line gives him holes, which I suspect he'll be able to do against this LSU defense (see the Arkansas game). The receivers should have no problem getting open. They're very smart and professional in their approach to the game and have excellent speed and route running skills. If Boeckman's line has his back, Ohio State is too complete a team to be defeated by anyone. I also get the feeling that Boeckman is simply a better fit for this team than Troy Smith was for last year's version. Everything last year was Troy, Troy, Troy all the time. This OSU team seems so much more balanced and reliant upon each other instead of the charismatic Smith. He was the center of the team, but now the team itself is the center of the team. Smith was such a talented, larger than life player, and when things went wrong for him against Florida, it seemed like the other guys were a bit confused, to say the least. Now the leadership is much more balanced. That's an incredible plus in my book. Boeckman also has a cool, straightforward, no-frills, business-like personality. That's exactly what this team needs to get it done. I remember Troy getting all fiery and demonstrative when things went wrong against Michigan last year. Boeckman won't do that, and that's a good thing. OSU is also different because they start better players on defense. I've noticed that sometimes Tressel rewards hard workers and good guys with starting positions. I admire this, but last year there were a couple of seniors starting who perhaps should have been coming off the bench, making way for more talented underclassmen to develop their skills. There's none of that this year. I would not be in the least bit surprised to see almost all of the current starting defense in the NFL someday. There's also Beanie. Antonio Pittman was an excellent college back, but when it comes down to it, a healthy Beanie has the potential to be everything that Clarett was supposed to be. I think everyone feels 100% more confident going into the trenches with that guy, a once in a lifetime talent. And don't forget the experience factor. These guys have been to the NC game and they've done it wrong. That's invaluable experience when you're hope is to do it right. With the Illinois loss, they're fortunate to get another chance. Will Henton play? It is hard to imagine Tressel messing with his #1 qb's rhythm at such a crucial time. If he does use Henton, it might be in the same manner Paterno used Darryl Clark against Tx. A&M. When Paterno brought Clark in he was real smart to leave Morelli in the game, sending him out wide. Leaving the starting qb in is key. Sure he's not under center, but he's still in the game. I remember the commentators wondering why Paterno did that. My guess is that he felt that Morelli would keep his head in the game by staying in the game. It also gives the defense something else to think about, perhaps a lateral to Morelli and a pass downfield? Whatever his reasoning, it was incredibly effective and saved the game for PSU. You could probably plug Boeckman in and out of the game all day without rattling him, but if Tressel does use Henton, I'd look to the Paterno model. Heck. This is such an ace up Tressel's sleeve that he could call Miles on the phone right now and tell him he's going to use two qbs, and there's nothing Miles could do about it. It should be interesting. Good to hear you got some rest Stewart. Whether I agree with you or not, you always bring a joy to your reporting of the game that's much appreciated. I'm glad to see you're remembering to have some fun away from football while you're down there. Look forward to your prediction on Monday. Michiganman, any loser who hangs his hopes on thhe vicissitudes of this year's Wolverines should really get a life. Geez!
The Big 10 is so booooooorrrrrring.
Who were the only teams to 'handle' WVU this season? USF and Pitt. Stay tuned for the return of the Pitt Panthers. "Shady" McCoy IS the second coming of you-know-who, and these guys are ready to play defense, too -- Just ask Pat White.
G'night, Gentlemen.
I suspected that pitfan was somewhat delusional.........but after his suggestion that Pitt is gearing up for a title run......yikes!!!!
Hey pittfan, what color is the sky in your universe? You should really wake up. You fantasy of the Big Least being a power conference is just that, a fantasy. Face the fact that West Virginia is about it. And in a couple years they will be nobodies again. Michigan will always be Michigan. And I am not saying that This year was great. But is was better than 3/4 of the Big Least. Again had they been healthy the Whole year I think their record would be slightly different. I think the bowl game proved that. And shut up with the Pitt talk. They have been irrelevant for over fifteen maybe twenty years.
By the way MichiganMan, congrats on a great game and for sending Lloyd out in the manner that he deserved. I am in a number of online Buckeye groups and I can tell you that the Buckeye Nation was Maize and Blue on Tuesday.
A great win. See you next November in the Shoe. @eric Y-town:
I wouldn't count on being able to run on LSU so easily as McFadden did it. First off, "Beanie" isn't McFadden. SECondly, LSU has been limping on the d-line for about half the season, not the least of which was the chop that slowed down Dorcy. But now they are nice and healthy, although I would have preferred about 45 days layoff to make sure. As far as the dual QB threat, the Tigers are experienced with that, too. The great thing about having bowl games versus playoffs is that you get a break before the bowls. If we were having playoffs this year, I don't think I would have liked my Tiger's chances with the injuries they were dealing with late in the season. Now Flynn and Periloux are healthy so maybe we can see some of the plays they put out early in the season. All said, I'm looking forward to the game. While Vegas may be favoring the Tigers a bit, I am looking forward to a great game on both sides of the field. Of course, I want my Tigers to win. Good Luck, OSU. GEAUX TIGERS! Humbuck: I was great to see him go out like that. In a way I was glad to see him go though. It was just time. Yeah next year is the year though. Buckeyes are going down!!! They better beat LSU. Les ain't no Michigan Man! After this game though, its back to the hate! lol!
pittfan, wha? Did you drink some of that SEC Kool-aid?
Michigan put a stomping on Florida, and if it wasn't for the 4 turnovers the margin of victory would have been 2-3 touchdowns. Formula to beat Florida? Pressure Tebow. West Virginia is a great team, no doubt, and I would love to have seen them play Michigan in a bowl game this year. However with the defection of RichRod, the sinking of USF, Rutgers and Louisville, and with Wanndstedt still coaching Pitt, the BigEast is falling further and further into the abyss. My bet is that within 5 years their automatic BCS ticket will be pulled in favor of possibly adding a 3rd team from a superior conference. The only way to settle this, is a playoff. The bottom line is money, and if they idiot presidents and commisioners could pull their noses out of their collective wallets they would see that a playoff would make them more money in the end. If you have the playoff at the end of the regular season, and then put the bowls back to they way they were, as a BONUS after the playoff. All this BS about these kids are students first etc etc is really getting old. Adding a 12th game, adding a 13th game in the way of a conference championship, bah. Kill the conference championships, play your schedule, get ranked beginning the 4th week of the season, seed your playoff from 1-16 accordingly, and go at it. Hey Michiganman:
I never thought about the fact that you guys will be rooting for the Bucks to beat Les. What a year! We'll try to accommodate you. It's gonna be a tough one. You know, the more I think about it, the more I think that all this supposed OSU hate is just predicated on the result that you had a large number of severely annoyed football fans who put too much money on a so-called "sure thing" last year.
I'm wondering if that is the real reason for all the animosity. You know, the fact that football fans everywhere "took one in the wallet" last year. Hey Stewart,
Glad you were able to find Dick and Jenny's. A GREAT place to eat. There are a few more like them uptown: try Clancy's a little further up river and, of course, there's Jacques Imo's in the river bend (on Oak). If you're in until Tuesday, eat there and then catch the Rebirth Brass Band next door at the Maple Leaf. For a great sandwich, without the Mother's lines, go to Crabby Jack's down Claiborne toward Metairie. hey stewart,

HAHHAHHAHAHAHA!!! That's a good one! A team that only managed to beat 3 teams with winning records all year... just hysterical! Oh wait. You were serious. I'm sorry; I didn't realize that you were one of the sanity-impaired. You have my apologies and my sympathy. BTW... erik, you keep yelling for BCS games to be played up north....
1. Bowls were rewards from long seasons. 2. Boosters love the warm weather destinations. 3. If Chicago and NYC were such destinations during da FREEZIN' COLD, why do all da snow birds come down here? 4. How can you speak after licking a cold pole and being froze to it? ;) Just because the nation LOVES WARM-WEATHER SITES--it don't mean that we should penalize LSU for being located 90 miles from N'awlins--just like we shouldn't penalize Key West for being located 90 miles from Cuba. And before you can get your lips from dat frozen pole--LSU will have won their 3rd, National Title (2d BCS Crystal Ball). Rum (doin' da Captain's pose.) ;) Stewart,

GET READY, MONDAY NIGHT IS TIGER BAIT NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Want some corn flakes? ROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) here's a lttle help with the OU,MU,KU thing:
Lowest: OU; bad loss to end season plus two other Big 12 losses to teams other two school beat Three TOTAL losses. Middle: MU; two blowout losses to OU; bowl win over unranked, 6th place SEC team with no coach...not very impressive. Highest: KU; good win over 3rd ranked VT in center-stage BCS bowl; only loss was an 8 pointer to MU; KU has best loss and best win among the three schools; and was the only Big 12 school to win FOUR road conference games; is the best BCS school with ONE loss -- yes, even OSU. I would put them at: KU 4th; MU 6th; OU 10. I wish OHIO STATE was playing a good team such as Sothern Cal or Georgia because after we BEAT DOWN l.s.u. people will say we didnt play any one.
I can't believe I just read "Michigan was lucky to hang in with a young Florida team. I'm glad they won, but, considering Michigan's year... it was a FLUKE." which was posted by PitFan. I am a Buckeye through and through, but did you watch that game? Michigan gave away 21 additional points when they turned the ball over on the 1 yard line 3 times. They DESTROYED Florida!
clearly, SolidStateMind, your name is a misnomer. USC 49, Illinois 17. Illinois 28, Ohio St. 21.
Ergo, USC 500, Ohio St. 3. Good luck to the Buckeyes and Tigers. I, unlike, some, believe that this will be an extremely close game. Close games are simply what LSU does this year.
One last point, and this is coming from an SEC man. No, the Big Ten is not slow. OSU's blockers may have been slower than Gators D-Linemen, but every O-Line would have been slower than that Gators D-Line. Notice that SEC opponents didn't generally score on the Gators either that year. We're finding out this year that the Gators D, not Meyer's offense, was the key to their success. As a Dawg fan, here's hoping that UF's defense continues to regress in '08. Matt Not sure about a "Tony Mandina's" out in Gretna. Don't send the man that far out of town. Go to Mandina's down Canal there. It's right before you get to Carrollton. If you really want a treat- eat there Sunday night and then walk over to Broccata's for some gelato and then watch the Phunny Phorty Phellows ride in the streetcar going be to start off the Carnival season in New Orleans! Pretty sure they're still on that streetcar line, but check. They may be going back to the Saint Charles line now that it's running again.
Eric:
Interesting thoughts on OSU and I agree pretty much with what you say. I think it'll be a good game, and from what I've seen and heard from the OSU players they're very focused and motivated. Should be a great game. As for all "dat" trash talk, I hope those guys keep it going...really. It's amusing in an ignorant kind of way but rest assured nobody...not Tressel, not the players, not our fans...nobody is intimidated. LSU is a good team, no doubt, but definitely, definitely beatable. OSU, for some reason, took more heat from last year's loss than any team (geez, think about OU in comparison) but our record in bowl games is pretty good. We take our football seriously and we play it as well as anybody. It's official. Bowl records for last two seasons:
Big East: 9-2 Oklahoma: 0-2 The entire Big East Conference COMBINED did not lose more games in the past two post-seasons than Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners. And the whole country got to watch the Big 12 Champs lose head-to-head with the Big East co-Champs.
I'm lovin' it. PittFan:
I think lots of people were happy to see WVU win, particularly for the emotional element. But you're not REALLY going to start trash talking about the Big East are you? You beat Oklahoma (nice job), Southern Miss and Ball State this bowl season. You got killed by a Dixon-less Oregon and handled by Wake Forest--both lower ranked teams. I like the Big East and don't think it's going away, but just a suggestion--unless you're deliberately trying to be provocative and see how much negative reaction you can get (or just being completely ignored), maybe think about dialing the trash talk back just a bit. Again, congrats on a nice win over Oklahoma. Dick and Jenny's is an Awesome restaurant and I love the fact they don't have a dress code and don't take reservations.
If we leave it up to ESPN and most of the sports media, seriously, who needs the NFL when we have SEC? I mean we all know they are the fastest, quickest, well coached conference in the history of the game. We could solve the entire BCS debate and just call the SEC Champion, the national champion. I expect it from the SEC fans, but not from the supposed unbiased media. Yeah Mark May, Craig James, Doug Flutie, etc. I am talking about you. GO BUCKS!!!
If all the OSU fans don't like the SEC speed and all-around superiority thing (a substantial fiction), stop bringing it up. You are your own worst enemies. The writers follow a story, and frankly you OSU fans are amplifying it much more than any rabid SEC fan or writer ever could. The lazier writers take the easy way out and follow the froth you are so conveniently generating.
It seems like a knowledgeable fan base (another writer fiction it seems) would have more substantive topics to discuss, such as the psychological implications of wearing a hat versus a sweater. Oh and... Geaux Tigers! First Citizen:
I agree with you about the whole SEC speed superiority thing--substantial fiction. And yes, it would absolutely die if people (both Big 10 AND SEC) would stop bringing it up. It just doesn't hold water any more. Good luck to both teams, and from friends who have made the trip south, it sounds like OSU is pretty well represented in New Orleans. They're having a nice time and by all accounts everybody is being pleasant and showing good sportsmanship to one another, with an appropriate level of good-natured ribbing of one another and team pride. Should be a great game! Oh, and of course... Go Bucks! O-H! Regarding the Mizzou, OU, KU issue, let's look at the redbird argument for KU. Mizzou "two blowout losses to OU" "KU 8-point loss to Mizzou." Let's see. Mizzou's first loss to OU was by 10 points, a game Mizzou was leading into the 4th quarter. That is a "blow out?" Then what do you call the "8 point" loss in a game that Kansas never led? When you have to spin like that, pretty good indication the argument is specious. Not sure where to put OU, but KU ahead of Mizzou? Don't think so.
All y'all better be prepared for an interesting final AP poll if LSU wins in an unimpressive fashion. USC's gonna get a lot of first-place votes if that happens. Will be veeeeeeery interesting.
Once again, you miss the point....the SEC fans, SEC, and most of the mainstream media single handily, without any Big 10 assistance continue to preach the superiority of the SEC. LIKE I SAID, LETS DO AWAY WITH THE BCS AND THE NFL AND JUST NAME THE SEC CHAMPION THE NATIONAL CHAMPION SINCE IT IS THE GREATEST CONFERENCE IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.
^^^
As I said. The OSU/B10+1 posts keep this mantra going. Must be a victim thing for some folks. Geaux Tigers! P.S. and kudos to you Larry - have fun in the Big Easy, but not too much fun on Monday night. I am unsure as to who the best team is, but I question having Ohio State as the best. And when are you "sports specialists" going to admit you were wrong about KU? They played a tough team and won! And, if there wasn't some errors when KU got to VT 1 yard line, the score would have been even greater. I do not think the MVP should have gone to one player, they won as a TEAM! ROCK CHALK JAY HAWK!!!
KUHappy:
I understand what you're saying about you not thinking OSU is the best...unfortunately this year I don't think ANY team has demonstrated a convincing argument for that. It's been a wild season, with some really great games, so while I'm going to be rooting for my Buckeyes to do very well tomorrow night (and thanks for the concern First Citizen but even a REALLY great Monday night once a year is okay :) ) I'm also going to be happy we had such a good year as fans. A lot of you will probably disagree with me but life ain't all about NCAA football, so regardless of who wins or loses tomorrow night, regardless of who makes the most noise about being the #1 team, life goes on and we'll have other things to be concerned about a week or two from now. I'm proud of my Buckeyes who did way better than any thought they would this year, I'm looking forward to next year, and I wish everyone the best of luck in 2008, not just in football but in life. I think we all deserve a good year after the last one, don't you? :) That said...GO BUCKS! Something tells me Michigan will be quite happy they didnt take Les after this game...
