Review: Madden 07

NBA 2K7
Electronic Arts
Posted by Lang Whitaker

Michael Vick rolled to his left, looking downfield for an open receiver, when, from the corner of his eye, he spotted something. Vick avoided a diving Ray Lewis and glanced up to see Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler nestled in a gap in the Ravens zone, standing there patiently, waving at Vick to throw him the damn ball. Vick did, and Atlanta picked up 7 yards on the play. It was a simple play, but it happened so quickly and organically that it looked and felt like nothing, just a normal play in a game of football. Which is exactly why it was so amazing, since I was sitting on the couch pushing buttons to make all of that occur.

It's likely that nothing I write here will neither convince you nor dissuade you from buying Madden 07. By now, 17 years into the series, Madden is entrenched as best sports video game on the market and one of the top all-around video games, period. At this point, Electronic Arts could probably announce that next year they will be producing the game solely in black and white with extended dream sequences as an homage to the films of Federico Fellini, and they'd still sell millions of copies.

With that in mind, let's say this for EA Sports: They could easily crank out new editions of Madden every year featuring new rosters, maybe some spiffed up graphics and nothing else new. But they don't. Instead, they at least make an effort to change it up and, some years more successfully than others, they always seem to innovate. Last season's game focused on passing, adding a controversial "passing cone" that forced users to swivel a wide triangle of light onto a receiver before being able to throw an accurate pass. (This year, the cone is turned off by default, although those of you who are either sadists or prefer having one more thing to do with your right thumb while playing can flip a switch and turn it on.)

To me, the most fascinating tweak in years is Madden 07's emphasis on the running game. Instead of simply adding more moves for the runners, EA has completely revamped the entire offensive system. Formerly you were only able to be the running back; now you can choose to be the fullback or even a lineman, and when the ball is snapped you're charged with finding and sealing your block. Whenever you want, with a click of a button you can switch over to being the ball carrier.

For instance, say you call a counter play. You choose a guard or tackle before the snap, and then at the snap you lead the way around the line and find a linebacker or defensive back and pancake him. You can set a regular block, but you can also throw a cut block or, in case you're about to get beat, you can even hold the defender and pray you get away with it (or if you're the Steelers you probably can do anything you want without being penalized).

The new blocking and running stuff is honestly a ton of fun, and the importance placed on being a 360 pound dude with sweaty pants makes the game feel as though Madden himself was sitting in the design studio, working on the animations. EA says they've done individual running animations for the different running backs, although I couldn't discern any significant difference between the various players. They've also made the right analog stick more important, adding left and right cuts. I find the problem here is that you have to remove your thumb from the turbo button to get over and throw a juke, which can result in a split-second of frantic general button mashing while you try to regain your finger placement.

The other significant change is with the NFL Superstar Mode. Introduced in Madden 06, they've completely reworked it and made it even more focused on the individual. The goal of the mode remains piling up stats for your created player, but now you can't just keep calling plays to get your guy the ball over and over. This year the plays are sent in from the sideline, so if you create a running back who gets drafted by the Broncos, like I did, you spend the game praying Mike Shanahan will get you 25 carries a game. This mode also produces visceral reactions, as when you break off a 30-yard carry down to the goal line, and then the coach calls a play-action pass or a fullback carry. I'm all about team and sublimating the individual, but after being overlooked a few times I found myself understanding why Terrell Owens is the way he is. And you know how in real football you'll occasionally see a running back flip out at a lineman who misses a block? If there was a button for that on Madden, I would have worn it out by now.

There are also a couple of smaller adjustments to the game, including following the lead of NCAA Football 07 and converting all kicking to analog mode. One extremely helpful new wrinkle is that you're now allowed to switch between players on defense by holding down a button and then using the D-pad to select whichever player you want, so there's no more furiously cycling through your defense trying to get to a particular player before the snap.

Madden '07 is also the most commercialized version of the game, as many graphics and stats now come with sponsors. I was surprised by the nearly complete absence of ESPN in the game. Last year, when EA Sports and ESPN inked a 15-year licensing deal, there was a lot of talk about integrating ESPN's personalities and content into the game. Perhaps they did, but in the PS2 version of the game the NFL Network has more of a presence than the Worldwide Leader. Not that I'm complaining.

Speaking of presence, John Madden himself is less visible in this game than in any previous version, and his announcing in the game all sounds recycled from the last five years of the Madden series. If it's in the game, they used to assure us, it's in the game.

Perhaps except for John Madden himself.

Ratings System (1 to 10)
Game Play: 9.7
I don't want to give out a 10 and make EA all complacent. The only part of the game that's even the least bit bothersome is the way that receivers and DBs occasionally have trouble turning around to face the ball or make a tackle. The PS2 version also briefly freezes up, as on a change of possession. But I'm really nitpicking here..
Graphics: 10
Since Madden continues to improve the look of the already gorgeous game, they get a 10. They cut down on the ridiculous helmets-popping-off graphic, and even have the refs wearing those new surreal stripes.
Replayability: 10
If there's any one thing that makes Madden so great, it's the replayability. From franchise mode to the new NFL Superstar Mode, this game will provide months of action. Franchise mode has also been infused, as a new college all-star game allows you to scout players before the draft.

You need to get over the SuperBowl... Your cheap shot at the Steelers make you sound like a whiny Hawk fan.. which you probably are.

where is the fantasy draft....
Posted: 1:23 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I Agree your comments of the steelers discredits your whole review.
Posted: 1:30 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Whiney steelers fans.
That thumb's gotta burn dont it?

Good luck this year though, an all seriousness.
RE: other comments.....

What's there to discredit? This is a fluff piece that is most accurately described as part of EA's promotional drive for the new Madden.

Lang Whitaker: game reviewer? CNNSI has hit a new low.

I actually agree with the steelers comment. The Ravens would be pelted with flags trying to get away with the routine penalties the steelers get away with. Remember Joey "the dik" Porter knocking Heap off the line after he hobbled up with a sprained ankle for a spike to stop the clock? T Suggs would have been fined!
Posted: 1:35 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Nice review. I see from the above comments, the Stealer fans are still a bit touchy about their Superbowl XL* "victory" :)~
Posted: 1:37 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
C'mon, it was a funny comment. Besides, he's just calling it like everyone outside of Pittsburgh saw it.
Posted: 1:43 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
New low? whether anyone likes it or not, video games are now a part of sports, and our world as a whole. ignoring this would be far lower than offering a review of a football game
Posted: 1:43 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
GET OVER THE SUPERBOWL. THE CRAPHAWKS LOST, LOST, LOST. GET OVER IT BY NOW ! ALL THESE FANS DON'T REMEMBER WHAT WE DID ON THE ROAD FOOLS !!! YOU DON'T HEAR ANYONE ELSE COMPLAINING EXCEPT THE HAWKS FANS. READ THE RULE BOOKS FOOLS. HE PUSHED OFF IN THE END ZONE ( EXTENDING THE ARM COMPLETELY ). THE HOLDING WAS ACROSS THE NECK. SIMPLE CALL EVEN IN PEE WEE. GET OVER IT , YOU LOST, LOST, LOST !!! IT WAS OUR DESTINY. STEELERS SUPERBOWL CHAMPS XL, ONE FOR THE THUMB. GET OVER IT !!!!!
Posted: 1:44 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The Raven fan ranting about Heap is far too biased to make an intellegent statement
Posted: 1:44 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The Steelers are a bunch of cry babies from the head coach right down to the fans........ great game review, I'm sold.
Posted: 1:49 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ALL OTHER 31 TEAMS SAY, WE ARE THE CHAMPS !!! BEAT THEM DOWN, BEAT YOU DOWN, PERIOD. WOO HOO GO STEELERS, I LOVE MADDEN. HOW MANY TD'S DID THE MVP HAVE IN SBXL, OR THE REAL MVP (MANNING) HAVE AGAINST US IN THE PLAYOFFS ? 1 COMBINED. GET OVER IT , WE ARE THE CHAMPS !!!!
Posted: 1:49 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Like I said in my first post.... Keep crying... Hawk fans, Ratbird fans...
Seek therapy if you need to, but the Superbowl was 7 months ago... time to move on. I'm a Giants fan, not a Steelers fan and I call it like most un-biased fans call it - The Steelers won that game fair and square... The officiating wasn't the greatest, but that's not what decided the outcome of the game. Good teams find a way to win through the adversity of the game, including less than perfect officiating... Ask the Steelers about the first playoff game against the Colts and they'll explain how they remained focused.
Posted: 1:55 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The Seahawks did lose. True. But it was not the Steelers who won that game. You really have to feel bad for a classy organization like Pittsburg to have waited so long for a championship only to have it tainted so badly when they finally get it. That's no way to "win" and they know it deep down.
Posted: 1:56 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The Steelers won the Super Bowl? I must have turned it off due to boredom.
Posted: 1:56 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Wow is seems to me that the Steelers fans arent the ones who are touchy about the Super Bowl. We're just tired of hearing people say how we shoulda lost...well we we shoulda lost against Cincy, Indy (even witht he refs blows the game), and Denver...but guess what we didnt...We are the Champs...done..over
Posted: 2:03 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
BOTH teams did have pretty amazingly good seasons. That level of winning doesn't happen very ofter so I guess it should be appreciated by both sets of fans....
Posted: 2:03 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Who are people that can't understand passer vision? That was the most realistic innovation in the game. It's so much easier to play QB when one has the endzone camera view (Madden Classic Cam) to begin with, but it was ridiculous that one could have the qb sprint backwards and complete a pass without looking at the receiver.
Posted: 2:03 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Way to win ? that's really funny, because who held the trophy at the end ? It felt great to put my Superbowl champs shirt on. Sorry that they made all the Seattle Champ shirts.
Posted: 2:13 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
For all the Steelers fans that are tired of the all the haters I understand. Being a Yankee I hear it all the time. Greateness brings out the ulgy side of those that are "how do you say" not so great.
Posted: 2:15 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I think that most people would rather win fairly or not at all... I hope. Either way, I'm sure we're all looking forward to see what happens this year!
Posted: 2:19 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
hahaha the guy loads up the game and IMMEDIATELY chooses Vick's Falcons.... such a cliche', learn to play without running with Vick every play. Anyway the game is better than 06, downloaded it and burned it for PS2 on Friday - intercepting is too easy, so is passing.
Posted: 2:19 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
EA does a great job of renergizing the game every year. Some asppects improve more than others but at least they try. I have some game series where the play doesn't change just the story. The fact is that I can play Madden for 3 months straight. Set it down for a month or two and then pick it up again. I still go back and play the old ones from time to time
Posted: 2:20 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Great comments on the Steelers, loved it. Oh and the game review was good too.
Posted: 2:23 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
i dont dislike the steelers, but their fans are unbearable. loud mouthed know nothings. whenever i read a blog, they never have anything intelligent to offer about the game of football. blind monkeys...all of them.
Posted: 2:24 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Yeah madden is by far one of the best video games of all time, the game is really good and all and I know the old saying "don't mess with a winning formula" but i feel like they should have added a lil somethin somewhere. I am looking for this area they should have added something to but the game is great and I will be playing for months on end until madden 08 comes out...the count down begins!!
Posted: 2:28 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Does the game get more fun to play with each version? Or , is there a certain year that is the best? I got hooked on '05 but have not tried the others.

is marcus vick on the new madden?

Be a Lion's fan and you'll take ANY win...and bonus if it was the Superbowl. Of course, this is about the only way "Lions" and "Superbowl" would be in the same sentence, besides: "The Lions will never be in the Superbowl. The closest we get, is having the game at our home."

If the Lions made it there, we wouldn't care if the other team didn't show up!! LOL.

Madden '07 looks awesome though!
Posted: 2:33 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The steelers are the best team, if by best u mean the best to ever cheat, cheapshot, and luck-out for a superbowl victory. The refs and oddsmakers obviously controlled the outcome of that game. The refs practically threw a flag for a seahawk tying his shoe and if they could have found a way, I'm sure they would have. The rest of the NFL and the rest of the world will never consider that a legitimate superbowl win, despite what the scoreboard may say. I'm just glad the most overrated player ever (the bus) won't be back and I can't wait for Cowher to retire after the season! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Posted: 2:33 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
"loud mouthed know nothings" Wow now THAT is an insult...I hate to tell ya man but Steeler fans may be some of the smartest football fans I've come across. Just because they are passionate about there team and stick with them through thick and thin is no reason to call them 'monkeys.' Maybe if you were half as passionate as some of these Steeler fans you would feel the same way about some moron who doesnt know anything about football telling you that your title didnt mean anything
Posted: 2:36 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Marcus Vick? Who cares?
Posted: 2:36 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
SO how is the 'most over rated' player number 5 on the alltime rushing list...hmmm do your homework before you say somethin stupid kid. And as far as Cowher goes..if he goes he goes...he got his ring..he a HOFer we'll get another HOF coach to continue the trend.
Posted: 2:38 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Steelers fans ( monkeys ) not knowing about football, who do you root for moron, the cardinals ? This idiot clearly did not watch us in the colts game where the refs TRULY tried to hand the colts the victory for Dungy and Manning. Go back to playing baseball and leave the football to us moron, by the way who won the super bowl again ? You guessed right the Steelers !!!!

wow, how old is everyone on here?

Posted: 2:46 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I'm a Seattle fan. We're still a little pissed that our team lost, especially considering the manner in which we lost. That does not mean we all hate the Steelers or there fans. It's not their fault. They didn't throw the flags or call Big Ben's ever-so-close lunge towards the end zone a touchdown, etc.... The Steelers have been and remain one of the classier organizations in the NFL. Best wishes. We're gonna get some payback this year!
Posted: 2:47 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
HOF coach???!! This is the same coach STEELER fans were trying to run out of town a few years ago?? Funny! The kid is right about Bettis. Just a big fat guy that stayed in the league long enough to get the yards. It doesn't take skill to roll over for 5 yards every play.
Posted: 2:47 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Did you guys see the video of that monkey riding a motorcycle? No wait, that wasn't a monkey...that was little Ben.
Posted: 2:48 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Madden '07...looks awesome!! So, "if it's in the game...it's in the game" does that mean u can take control of the refs and make them throw flags even when there is no penalty what-so-ever?! That would be awesome!!
Posted: 2:51 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Yeah, yeah...the Steelers won...but you are a moron if you can acknowledge that there was some controversy...not just 'hawk fans whining...

...I find it humorous that a Steeler fan says a Raven's fan is biased about the conversation...so are you, YOU ROOT FOR ONE OF THE TEAMS!!! Obviously you will see things their way...

...I love the comment about how boring the SB was...so true...

So in recap....Boring Game Still Causing Controversy and Leading to Stupid Post By Steeler Fans
Posted: 2:56 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
It is ironic that you called Steeler's fans "some of the smartest" you're come across and then use the wrong form of their ("there") in the next sentence, when referring to the team's Super Bowl win. Steelers fans need a better spokesman.
Posted: 2:59 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Madden sucks. That's why EA paid so much money to the NFL, so they wouldn't have to compete against 2k sports. Sad

ENOUGH ABOUT THE STEELERS. HOW DO WE LIKE THE GREATEST SPORTS GAME EVER JOHN MADDEN FOOTBALL?
Posted: 3:03 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Steelers fans are the most annoying terd fans in the NFL. I love how everyone's a steelers fan but no one wants to live in pittsburgh. MO'LARIOIUS!

Sorry, but this is just plain ignorant sir. If you stay on the field despite the fact that your hurt, then you're saying that your ok to play. Todd Heap was asking for that crap when he didn't hobble off. Seahawks fans, sorry, you lost, and there was only one bad call, the illegal block, which everyone on earth realizes except a bunch of whiny cry babys. You lost because your coach is obsessed with a crappy offensive scheme, we pushed you around running the ball, and you have piss poor clock management on the sidelines. I guess that run by Parker was helped by the refs also? Where on earth did all the haters come from. I love the fact that if Carson Palmer was healthy, we wouldn't have won that game. I guess that suprises me considering the lead you had after he was hurt, and how well Kitna played. Face it, we kicked your ass, and everyones ass in the playoffs. Oh and to the penalty hating loser who reviewed the game, check out the Denver Broncos starting lineup (AKA the people responsible for pussy blocking schemes) we at least block hat on hat, not hat on knee. Sorry world, but we won, won, won and you lost, lost, lost!

I can’t stand how “people” (lets call them Captain Dumbass from here on out) who are non-madden players have this sentiment of superiority, because they don’t play Madden. They try to bring down our Madden Nation. People like SI’s Jeff MacGregor. They declare how Madden is a far cry from resembling anything like real football and that Madden is such a waste of time. After Captain Dumbass is done Nan-saying Madden, they go and spends hours playing FANTASY FOOTBALL. Which is about a hundred steps down in reality from Madden. And if Madden is such a waste of time why does Joe Paterno have his playbooks on EA sports games as a tool for his players to learn the playbook? Boom!
Posted: 3:14 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
agreed. i learned a lot about football from playing madden as a kid. it's pretty realistic. anyone who says otherwise just doesnt have the hand eye coordination to play video games long enough to appreciate how cool madden actually is.
Posted: 3:14 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Wow...10 in graphics for Madden and the graphics haven't changed in at least 4 years!! LOL! Madden 07's gameplay still pales in comparison to ESPN NFL 2K5.

By the way, those bitching about the Steelers getting calls clearly didn't see the Pittsburgh-Indy playoff game. It was only karma coming back aroudn in the Super Bowl!
Posted: 3:14 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
As a life-long Steelers fan, I've said since the final tick of the Super Bowl that it is a shame it wasn't a better game. It is a shame we didn't win in the same convincing fashion that we did while disposing of three teams, that would have certainly beat the Seahawks in the big game too, during the playoffs. It's hard to be that good, and play at such a superior level every game. And although we weren't at our absolute best, we still were better than YOU! Deal with it ;-)
I can't wait to fire up the Xbox!
Posted: 3:17 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
But let us not forget that the Patriots will again have the Super Bowl trophy come the end of the season!!!
Posted: 3:19 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The game is right on. The Steelers will be back off.

The Patriots will be the champs this year. There's no stopping this dynasty. You're looking at the greatest team in the history of the NFL.
Wow such a heated discussion over something that happened in January. Madden 07 is a good game. It has is flaws. A few actually, but it is still fun to play. Maybe EA will get wise and put out an update for those of us with the Xbox360.
Posted: 3:31 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
You all need to relax and leave the past alone. This Year I hope You all enjoy watching the Chicago Bears win it all. That's right, behind the arm of Rex Grossman and the BEST D in the NFL, the 06 Bears can't lose.

Forget madden 07...real gamers play Counter Strike!
Posted: 3:34 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I can't wait to get home and play already !!! I have never seen such a team blasting before. The Steelers won that game. But oh yeah, I forgot the refs were on the 'hawks sidelines running the plays that cost them seconds instead of calling timeouts. oh yeah it was the refs who let Parker run for 76 yds to the end zone. oh yeah it was the refs who were blocking for the " MVP" who could not shake loose. it was the refs who were playing TE who dropped 4 passes ( 2 in the end zone) oh yeah I forgot about that. Steelers won, new season coming. Go back to the playoffs and prove the "world" wrong that the seahawks will win it all. They don't stand a chance against the AFC, loser fans !!!

Whenever the team you root for wins lets say 2 titles then come talk about great teams and what not. The only teams that are in the same league as the Steelers is the Cowboys, 49ers, and yes even the Patriots. The Hawks were good..but got out classed. Simple as that. Anyone with an IQ over 10 can see the right calls were made, although Ben's TD was close, but all were correct except the low block on the int. Leave it to a bunch of classless organizations to whine about what they dont have. Just a classic case of everyone hating the popular kid.

DONT DRAFT Shaun Alexander FOR YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL NOW! CAUSE WHOEVER IS ON MADDEN, ALWAYS GET HURT!!!!!ITS TRUE, CHECK THE RECORD!

First off Broncos fan here, the steelers beat us with their rush, and Jake the Snake doing some trademark stupid plays. Secondly the refs blew two calls, the tackle below the knees call and the TD dive, should have been not whistled especially when he first signaled not in, the others were up in the air. Thirdly, I love 2k5 very good game play, I haven't played madden so the 2003 edition, but will now be forced to, but it sounds like it is doing good. And finally I thought the game wasn't the best but the game was so long ago why not focus on this season, and let it go. Broncos in 07 go M. Bell
The remark on the Steelers was made in regards to the way the Madden 07 game is set up, you jokers. They do get away with pretty much anything in it. If that jerks you off, bawl at the game developers. They made it the way they saw it. It wasn't a knock on the Steelers or a way to take away from their AWESOME and historic playoff run or their seemingly cheapened Super Bowl victory. The way Holmgren's team was coaching the 'Hawks, any team would have beat them in that Super Bowl. That should not take away from the Steelers but should give pause for thought to Seahawks criers. And you have been crying, dammit, admit it. I dislike the Steelers AND the Seahawks but I LOVE great football. I just hope this year is decided by it. Great game!

why do all steelers fans speak in a manner that suggests that they were actually part of the organization. "don't talk to me until your team has two plus"-screw you. as a patriots fan-even you disgust me. get a life steelers fans. that one for the thumb should be for your ass, not a ring.

I don't understand the whole Seattle's crying thing at all. The Raiders held a walk-out on the officials after the "tuck" rule and that was only one call. The "Hawks didn't do that. Look at the polls following the SB. If that was only Seattle fans, then Seattle suddenly got as popular as the Steelers and the Cowboys without me knowing it. Scoreboard is scoreboard. This Seattle fan is over it and waiting for the "Hawks to break both the hangover and cover curse.
Posted: 4:13 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
2K was the ultimate football game, the players didn't look like midgets, the speed of the game was much more realistic, whenever we want a serious competition, me and my friends always break out 2K5. Anyone that used to play 2K and now has to go to Madden sees how much better a game 2K was. I tried to switch to Madden last year, but it sucked, a lot was due to the vision cone, but on so many other levels also. For just the best gameplay get an old copy of 2K5, you won't be dissapointed.

I am a Steelers fan and more importantly a football fan.

The only questionable calls in the game, literally interpreting the rules, were the blocking penalty on Hasselback and Ben's TD. I don't think those plays changed the outcome of the game.

That said, I hope the idiot who wrote this review realizes that he ruined the whole article by inserting 1/2 a sentence in parentheses that's only purpose was to cause exactly the reaction that it did, if that makes sense.

I'm a Steelers fan and I think the Seahawks were robbed. That interception play where Hasslebeck was called for a penalty on a tackle...awful.

2K football cannot hold Madden's jockstrap. What a joke of a football game.
Posted: 4:49 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
As a completely neutral fan (i like the giants) the super bowl was called like crap. There were a lot of calls that weren't and were made, not always correct. But, i think that in the end, even with all of the disputed calls going the 'hawks way, the steel crew would hav won anyway

So I hear there's a new Madden game I didn't know I was going to be reading the new sports forum at GameFaqs.com.
How did this get to be about the Steelers and Seahawks? Thought this was a game review.

You know there's something wrong with you when you get defensive about one...little...comment.

Guess it's easy to whine when you're hiding behind Anonymous.

Enjoyed the review.

NE Fans, when you get to 5 super bowl rings then you can start talking smack. Unless you are Dallas, SF or Pittsburg... don't even try.

Go Cowboys and again... how many rings does your team have?
Posted: 5:04 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I really wanted to like this. If they could atleast get it close to 2K5 standards. I guess Signing an exclusive contract they don't have to worry about competition anymore. And this "review" ? - beyond Lame.

Have any of you heard of "ad hominem" arguments? It's where you insult the person with whom you are arguing, as if that validates your point. Congratulations, you have all failed debate class.
Posted: 5:05 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I've always wondered why there are so many Steeler-haters out there. I guess not everyone likes smash-mouth football. It's not always exciting, but it works. I guess people hate winners, like that whole yankee thing someone mentioned above. Anyway, for the first time in a couple of decades I don't have a reason to hate anybody. Oh yeah, the Steelers repeat in 07! We're still nasty. We got a hurry-up implemented too. Prepare for that, NFL. We're coming.

Go Lions!!! Thought that would be funny!

Geez, you steelers fans are as dumb as you look. Now I know why you all (yins) bring the terrible towels to the game, because your not smart enough to know what toilet paper is for. You all can stand behind this Super Bowl win as much as you want to but you are still a bunch of fat, stupid, blue-collar losers.
Posted: 5:45 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
The game is great PERIOD. Now heres the real deal...Its a new season, so you Seahawks fans need to get your thumbs out of your rears and go cheer for your team. Get over the Super Bowl already. You lost. Just let it go and get ready for the new season. If you want to complain about bad calls and such, just watch the AFC Championship game, where Troy's game clinching interception was stolen from him. Bad calls happen to everyone, just deal with it.

go steelers.

Steelers are the Champs. The SB was payback anyway. Look at how the Bengals cried and what about the Colts game? I live in Seattle and Seahawks fans are a joke compared to Steelers fans.

i love how someone can call the terrible towels dumb. that's why all other teams bite on us in college, pros, etc. look who's dumb now as you waive your stolen 12th man from TA&M and get in our face. get original hawks.

Go Steelers !

New season. There will be another Superbowl in February. P;ease quit ranting about the last one. The Steelers deserved to win. Period. They played as hard and as well as any playoff team in history. Refs screw up sometimes, so do coaches and players. The refs had nothing to do with who won/lost that game. A bunch of overpaid, overhyped reporters, fans, and coaches (like Walrus-head Holmgren)fueled the fire with comments that bordered on the purely stupid. Especially the 'monkey' comment in reference to Ben's motorcycle accident. Grow up. It's a game. Geez. And go Steelers REPEAT-REPEAT!

How does the saying go? "Even a blind squirrel occationally finds a nut." I think that pretty much sums it up for the over-achieving Steelers. Like the Ravens did so long ago, it's called, ONE AND DONE! lol..Steelers will suck a fat one this year; count on it.

OH DAMN! I just saw that someone said NFL 2K5 was better than Madden. I almost cried when I found out 2k sports took over for EA in baseball...Somebody would take a beating if 2K took over football...2k SPORTS SUCKS!! Gosh..I can't believe I even had to to type this...what an idiot that would say 2K is better...ahh

People need to get over their whole Steeler argument. So what if you hate or love them, this isn't a discussion board of our passion for various NFL teams. Its about a video game.
Posted: 7:10 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
Ugh. Steeler fans are simply insufferable... If the shoe were on the other foot, I KNOW I would feel badly for the win. I would not be saying 'get over it' 'losers' 'one for the thumb babeeee!!!' and other such nonsense. I would have pointed out how it's a shame that the officials had to decide the outcome of the game.
1. DJack push-off. Fine, no problem no TD. Then why no interferrence call on your CB for grabbing DJack and interferring with him way beyond 5 yards?? Plus, that back judge was a long time Steeler fan who grew up in Pittsburg, oh, great, that 's fair. I don't even buy the argument that many people believe that that arm extension move is routine and done all day and year long and not called (Michael Irvin admits most of his TD's were of that nature on the SB broadcast). If it's illegal, ok, I can live with that. As long as it goes the same for the other team. Unfortunately, it didn't Hines 'tears' Ward pushed off all game and NEVER got a flag. Not fair. Bad officiating. Then like all the little babies that whine when something bad is done to them, they smile and grin when they get away with it. Sickening.
2. Ben's TD. How a line judge can clearly signal fourth down and then several seconds after the play is over and Ben pushes the ball across the goal line the official then signals touchdown is pure insanity. If you can't understand the absolute miserableness of that call I don't know what to say. People focus on the review of the play and whether he broke the plane or not on the initial lunge. That had nothing to do with the touchdown call or not. Steelers would have still gone for it on 4th? Ok, maybe they would have gotten it, maybe not.
3. Horsecaller tackle Porter on SA. No flag?? Insanity. You could see it from the upper deck of Ford Field no flag. Horrible non-call.
4. Locklear hold. Again, I don't begrudge the fact that they can call hold on that play BUT if you call that on Lock there are about 10 other plays where I say BLATENTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!! frigging straigh-arm neckbending backwards holds on Steeler Tackles that drew nothing. Talk about your insane disparity. Not fair. I'm for calling them if they are there, when it is called so ticky tack against one team and then not called when blatently obvious against another, that is either incredibly bad officiating or very biased officiating. As far as the Locklear hold what everyone fails to mention is the fact that his man JUMPED OFFSIDES on several plays for crimony sake. That is what lead to Lock getting beat and holding. How can the ref not call jumping the gun on the ball?!?! Absolutely dreadful unfiar and/or biased officiating.
5. Ok, let's rub some salt in the wounds. After the int Hass is a defender. Makes the tackle and is called for the block. HUH?? That is simply a ridiculous penalty. Not that it had an income on the outcome of the game but come on...
6. Hold on the good runback. No penalty can be seen on the man flagged. Crazy. And again in there are going to be phantom holds why are there not flags being thrown on the Steeler line when they are literally choke holding the defensive ends of the Seahawks. Not fair in the slightest.

All of these dings add up. You can overcome so much during a game. Each team gets a bad call here or there and it usually evens out during the course. However, there are only so much momentum changing plays a team can overcome.

Let's get serious, Seattle's D was kiling the Pitt O in the first half. Ben's QB rating was was 25 for the game or something... There were two legit Pitts plays and one was the result of an injury to our starting safety. Our sub (who NEVER plays) got caught and Ward went yard. The other was the third and forever completion to the one yrd line when ben threw that beautiful pass (wounded duck) and Bouleware missed swiping it aways by millimeters. Looked like the ball went through his hand.

On the Parker run that the Pitt fans want to clammor about there was a blatent hold on the Seahawk that was in position to make a tackle on him coming through the line, at least enough to put shoulder on him and slow him down.

Pittsburg did not have the best players, the best team, the best plays or the best coach and lastly the best overall game on that day. It is hard for a Seahawk fan who has stuck with these guys for 30 years and had to watch Vinne Testaverde's helmet get mistaken for a football and get ousted from a playoff spot because of it, have officials clock management in a Raven's game a few years ago make the debacle of the Soviet US olymipc basketball game timekeepers seem tame to see the most outrageous and biased officiating ever infairly imposed on my team of choice. It still burns in my heart and to have to listen to announcers say the game was well officiated or that the Seahawks need to get over it makes me want to go clock tower on those folks.

look i hate both teams... but to be honest the seahawks got robbed in the superbowl. yall steelers fans should all send thankyou cards to the refs in that game. and btw bettis was a joke... hes been washed up for years

Seahawk and Steeler fans, you had your moment. This year, the NFC Beast will have its. Washington, Philly, New York, or Dallas could all win 12+ games or the superbowl, and three will make the playoffs

the steelers would have lost to new england had they had to play them there is no way they can ever beat new england

how about you all just shutup about the superbowl and focus on the game review.

i think the review couldve had a little more depth about the features like the superstar mode etc. a more in detail review would be nicer. i dont agree with the review score. Madden just adds one more new aspect each year. Soon enough its going to be the ability to control cheerleaders. Madden needs some completely new innovative features. I'm pretty sure the rating that was given was high because you were a football fan.

i love how the only fans still talking about the SB are steelers fans...lol.
yeah back to the game, which is the point of the article in case y'all forgot to read the damn thing is madden 07. shut up about the superbowl, cuz i dont think either of those teams are gonna get to miami this year anyways

if you do not have any input on madden '07 STFU!!!! My God!!! Stop the steeler/hawk crap already. there is plenty of other forums for that. if all you got from that giant article about the new madden game is the couple of words about the last superbowl u need to go back to school and learn how to comprehend reading materials. this nation needs more education. this is probably the same reason we went to war. I can see bush being handed a 10 page document about Iraq and the only thing he sees is WMD's with no regards to the "iraq has none" that proceeded it. idiots.

Alright, I'm a lifelong Steelers fan. I was happy we won the Super Bowl, but honestly the feeling wasn't as great as I'd hoped because we played so sloppy. There were a lot of calls that went our way. I originally didn't think Ben made it on the scramble, but later they used a laser on the replay to show that nose of the ball did break the plane of the endzone. I admit it's a little weird that the ref didn't signal right away. I was happier after the Colts and Broncos games in the playoffs because we played so well. Many people forget that the refs almost cost us the Colts game as well. I think the Seahawks outplayed us for most of the Super Bowl with the exception of our three big plays. This happens all the time though - the team that plays better doesn't always win...whether it be because of the refs, luck, or anything else.

Steelers fans deserve the superbowl win, I mean look at the dump they live in. That's all they have.
Posted: 11:15 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
I guess i have to remind you guys that it took a cheap shot to Carson Palmer to even play in Indianna. And how many days after the superbowl did you Steelrs fans buy your Jerseys. Bunch of retards dont forget to wear you HELMET
THE CORNERBACK WAS CLEARLY PUSHED WITH "extended arms" by the offense. there is no refuting that. It cant be done. just becuase it wasnt called all season long against some other team doesnt mean it's not a penalty in the superbowl. the cornerbacks feet didnt change direction and come off the ground(clearly seen in replay) because he WASN'T interferred with. No touchdown was the right call. give me a break. how bout the jeremy stephens fumble that wasnt called that resulted in a score. how convenient that isnt mentioned.
you're pathetic and so are the seahawk "fans". do they even play football in washington state?

yall should forget that the craphawks lost and the big bird yellow 1 we all no that the jets should of made the playoffs but chad gets hurt so we but a 44 year old person in and curtis gets hurt and half of r line man

Check out the play before R-El's TD pass. Terril gets MUGGED in the middle of the field as Ben is scrambling for a first down and 3rd down. Haggins(?)grabs his shoulder pads, turns him around and doesn't let go for at least 3 seconds.-NO CALL!(only three players involved in the play-can't say the refs weren't watching). 3rd and 28 TWO linemen beyond the line of scrimmage-NO CALL!
75 yard TD run-Fisher has Parker lined up for a loss in the backfield when Miller TACKLES FISHER and springs Parker-NO CALL!
Back judge was born, raised and still lives in Pitt-look at what happened to Dekinger after the WS and to this woman Ben face planted on-how they were threatened and abused and tell me that there was no concern for saftey of his family in the back of his mind helping to "see" and "not see" what was happening during the plays.
Posted: 11:34 PM, August 22, 2006   by Anonymous
No - they do not play football in Washington state you idiot, Seattle is just a made up place with an imaginary football team. They also have a make believe school called the U.W. that has won a national championship. Of coarse this is all fictional just like football in washington. We all just run around drinking starbucks, throwing fish and sprinkling fairy dust everywhere we go.

Despite the fact that Pittsburgh fans will swear up and down that they deserved to win the SB, and that their "magical run" through the wildcard to the big game is a sign that they finally deserved that one for the thumb, the Steelers played like crap in every single post-season game: the only reason they made it through was because while they were playing like crap, they were consistent in their bumbling and their opponents couldn't keep it together.

1) Pittsburgh at Cincy -- The offensive unit stalls repeatedly while the D gets creamed by Cincy's 2nd string quarterback in the first half. The famed "Steel Curtain" is a joke getting beaten on by a team that Pittsburgh considers a joke. After halftime faigue and stress sets on for Cincy and pittsburgh grinds out a win thanks only to their runners. Verdict: Pittsburgh only wins this game because Palmer goes down, watch the first half and then imagine if the team didn't have to deal with not having their star quarterback.

2) Pittsburgh at Indy: Offense again stalls under the leadership of the "Big Ben". The game goes back and forth but due to Indy's inferior defensive ability to capitalize on Pittsburgh's many mistakes, the Steelers hang in the game. Then suddenly the fattest guy ever to be overhyped drops the ball and the only thing that saves Pittsburgh from certain doom is the fact that Vanderjagt sucks under pressure.

Verdict: You were saved by vanderjagt's incompetence, not because of anything your offense did.

3) Pittsburgh at Denver: This game can be ceded to Pittsburgh having the better team of the two. Both teams play like shite, failing to capitalize on numerous opportunities. This is also the first game where "Big Ben" doesn't play like a blind monkey with syphillis.

As a fan of neither the Seahawks nor the Steelers it was with reluctance I tuned in to watch SBXL, and every second was more infuriating than the next. It's sad when you see such a great sporting event that has the power to bring so many people together let politics run into it. The refs were the real MVPs and to look at that obvious failed conversion of a touchdown and see anything otherwise is just showing your arrogant dedication that no amount of logic is going to undo. The only thing more of a crime than that reffing is to hear Steelers fans crying out "YEAH, WHAT A SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE, AMAZING JOB BY BIG BEN AND THE BUS. THIS TIME IS DOMINATING."

The Seahawks didn't play like they deserved to win that game, but neither did the Steelers, and to see a team that wanted the trophy equally as bad get so robbed is a sad day for the NFL and football fans everywhere, but by claiming your team dominated the game, you're only adding insult to injury.

That said, a new season is coming and come january hopefully some of this will finally go away.

GO FALCONS!

Don't be surprised when the Steelers repeat. History tells us that when Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl, they win the next one also. And to the idiot who said that Steeler fans are "know nothings", you're probably just a pathetic Seattle native with no hope of ever winning a Super Bowl. The Seattle fans are the ones who have hoped and dreamed their whole lives to see a championship and when they made it to the big dance, the made stupid decision (like pushing off) to lose it for themselves. The call with Hasselbeck making a tackle or whatever was a bad call though, not the push off or the holding. Steel Curtain 2007!
Posted: 3:57 AM, August 23, 2006   by Chris
GO SEAHAWKS!!! The Seahawks are pratically gauranteed a playoff berth - look at the NFC West. We'll dominate the NFC again and be right back in the Superbowl. I doubt Steelers fans can be as confident. Gauranteed the Steelers won't make it back to the Superbowl this year, let alone they'll be lucky if they make the playoffs! I will be taking extreme pleasure in watching the BENGALS, RAVENS and even the dooo dooo BROWNS beat the livin' dog**** out of the STEELERS. STEELERS fans better hope BIG BEN doesn't become the BIG FART this year as he is their only hope.

What do you think of this? Instead of having a roster cut down automatic with the game. Since the game comes out during the preseason, the rosters for all of the teams should have all the players that started training camp. If you start a franchise/season mode you will have to play the preseason and cut your roster from how many people you have down to the required 53 personnel. I think this would add a lot more fun to playing the preseason and getting the learning curve of your players up to standards. Reason being for this, I was playing with the Packers yesterday and noticed they ONLY have Billy Cundiff and BJ Sander, well they also have Dave Rayner and Jon Ryan. It would be cool to play out in practice and in games to win the job. That would be an awesome bonus...MADDEN '08 MAYBE??

I'm sure the folks at SI are reading these posts and laughing in amazement at the general lack of intelligence we unwashed masses possess. I mean, this IS supposed to be a place to comment on the review of Madden '07, and to voice your own opinions of the game, right? I mean, who really cares about who you think is going to win the Super Bowl, or if the Steelers' win is tainted?

The Madden franchise has gotten complacent, and it is reviews such as this, designed to deflect attention from obvious flaws and weaknesses in the game that irritate me. The passing cone be damned, the rest of the game still can't touch the 2K Sports releases, and there is one thing the reviewer is right about -- Madden isn't "in the game". Recycled voice overs rule the day, and make me wish that the NFLPA hadn't allowed the NFL game market to become an underperforming monopoly.

in case no one realized, a new season has started. im a seahawks fan, but as you can see im over last year and ready to see the hawks dominate this year.
Enough talk about the Steelers lets talk about Madden and EA sports. Madden and EA sports had a serious challenge from NFL 2K franchise. So what did they do. Instead of making a better game they sign a exclusive contract with the NFL which freezes out NFL 2k. This cheats the fans because the NFL gaming fan gets no choice. If they want play they have to play Madden and since Madden has nobody competing against them they can the game as good or as bad as they want. Whether you like Madden or NFL 2K, it was nice that there was competition and that you had a choices.

SB history, the hawks def did. stop crying.

Wow this turned into a Steelers/Seahawks whine about the superbowl post! THIS IS A MADDEN 07 REVIEW POST! Madden 07 is an excellent game, the authors scores are a little high, but 9 out of 10 for sure!

Since when did having a better team or having a star player mean that you were guaranteed to win? I thought this is why they play the game. From a football fan's standpoint, there are always calls that aren't called, but the football gods take as much as they give (ie Polamalu's interception), so let's not hang the refs just yet. Besides guys, everything is obvious on replay, not in real life, had the goal line play gone against Pittsburgh, and they challenged, whatever the call is on the field will stand, duh! Maybe you should quit being jealous and appreciate the fact that what these guys do is entertainment, and not life and death.

response to the falcons fan ranting about all the steelers playoff games...you said in every game that the steelers were better (cincy isn't conditioned), (indy can't play defense), and kitna torched the steelers in the first half, so they made adjustments and killed him in the second half, happens all the time. and no one can say cincy would have won that game in palmer didn't get injured. no one knows that. injurys happen. Indy should never have been in a position to win that game. If you even watched that game you would know that the steelers deserved to win that game. don't get me started on the refereeing in that game. they owned the broncos fair and square, no bitterness can be contended for there. and the super bowl every call except the block-tackle-penalty thing on the interception was the right call, and on the play fine take off 15 yards...hines still scores...get over it, new season, its a shame their first super bowl in 25 years had to come in such a tainted fashion. god ive had to get that out for a long time.

Did anyone hear me? Go Lions! That's that team from Motown! I want to buy Madden but I'm looking for people's thoughts on the game...NOT bitter fans! You wanna talk bitter...I AM REALLY A LIONS FAN! Yeah, I'm the ONE! I'm lonely...help...go lions?

while seattle is still a good team, the super bowl loser historically does bad the next year. This gives an advantage to the rest of the NFC, particularly the NFC East. While the Skins, Boys, and Giants will slug it out, one of the three is going to get to the super bowl. Each team has a great chance at 14-2. By the way, the Redskins have also won 3 superbowls

Isn't it great to know that even tho we are talking about a video game it falls down into the sewer as a battle between steeler fans and the rest of the league because of one statement? The writer entered that statement because of the response he knew he would get and stupid apes that we are, we responded just like he knew we would congratulation IDIOTS!!!!

one of the main aspects of the franchise was the fantasy drafts. madden needs them to change franchises up a bit when you get tired of it.
Posted: 12:16 AM, August 24, 2006   by Anonymous
There is no need to go after Jerome Bettis, he is a future hall of famer that lead his team to a super bowl in his farewell season. Even if he does have some meat on his bones, you all are from America, you probably do too. If the review hadnt included a funny comment about some controversial calls in the Super Bowl, there wouldnt be half as many comments as there are. It looks like a good game, and leave it at that. Dont post comments in capital letters defending your team and your dumb reckless quarterback (I guess, I didn't bother reading things by idiots who have to capitalize words to be noticed.)

Go falcons.

So maybe the two curses Seattle has on it (SB loser and Madden cover) will equal each other out - two negatives make a positive - right? By the way I am a Seattle fan and I'm okay with the loss, when you don't show up - you lose.

goddammit u steelers fans really need to shut up..in ase u havent noticed, you are the only ones keeping this shit alive...know why? well aside from the fact that none of u can remember what you said just the second before, its probably cuz u know that the SB was the biggest FLUKE in NFL history...u know why they were only the 6th wild card team to win the SB? its cuz luck only gets u so far in the NFL. now please, shut up, and let the grown men talk about the article

Here's my two cents:

1. EA sports has extremely disfigured the gaming world for any football with their buy out of the rights to each organization (NFL, NCAA, etc.). There is no competition for EA to go against and there is no way they can "compete" against other companies to either copy or enhance the other ideas that their competitors would put out. I am dissapointed with the fact that we as consumers and gaming fans are limited to ONE game experience. Having multiple ideas and graphic schemes from different companies just added more to the game because it gave consumers the right to choose what they wanted. They wanted realistic graphics? Choose 2K. They wanted arcade feel? Choose Fever. They wanted more options and mini camp? Choose Madden. The EA buy out has really watered down the football gaming experience.

2. As for the Super Bowl, the game is over. The game was not about ONE play, ONE penalty, or ONE player. There were plenty of mistakes and problems with the players execution that could be accredited to the win or the loss for the respected teams. That huge run could have been stopped by having the right man in his assignment. It was a huge mistake that the "holding" was a factor considering that the whole defense is not that ONE guy. Other defensive players should have been their in the first place. Now, I can understand if the whole offensive line was holding, but come on, be realistic. The blame could be put on every single player out on the field but we cannot do that because "our" team is always the best and will never make a mistake. NOOOO! Bottom line is, the Steelers made the right plays at the right time. The Seahawks played a great game but couldn't make the stops when it was needed. The game is over, the Steelers had more points. Oh yeah, you should know this...I am a huge Bengals fan so you should know how hard it is to be helpful to the Steelers point considering what happened in the Wild Card game (no hard feelings Kimo, that just made Carson stronger and more aware), but that's what I think and I'm sticking to it.

3. I just want to play football.
Posted: 9:10 AM, August 24, 2006   by Anonymous
Bengals fan here...
The whole NFL is a bail bonds credit organization. Cincinnati is just building up their credit. Somebody has to. It's NFL tradition!

This game is really missing the fantasy draft (one of the coolest features of the Madden series). Also, I'm not sold on the new controls for juking...mayeb I jsut need to get used to it. I do love the ability to lead block and pancake a guy...having a great fullback is now something you can really enjoy when you play.

Steeler fans, you will always have an asterisk next to your Super Bowl "victory", and you know it. Worst performance by a QB for a "winning" team in a Super Bowl ever also goes to Big Ben. The refs bailed you guys out on multiple occasions, and the whole world saw it. So excuse the rest of the world for not "getting over" the fact that your team didn't deserve to win is getting old. Any time that Super Bowl comes up, you guys will just have to deal with it.

I am proud to say I've read this entire thread to this point.

And as a Steelers fan....well, let's just keep saying "one for the thumb" and meekly ignore the details of that game. Because anyone even remotely objective can't look at that game and think that the Steelers won fair-and-square.

Did the blatantly slanted calls literally determine the outcome of the game? Sadly, we'll never know since the refs denied us what could have been a truly memorable game. My guess?

I think the Steelers probably would've lost. I mean, come on--the Seahawks were beating the snot out of us up and down the friggin' field on both sides of the ball!

As a Steelers AND football fan, I say: Seattle got screwed big time.
Posted: 6:33 PM, August 24, 2006   by Anonymous
I love when the Pitt fans show such absolute ignorance even after something is spelled out for them. When referring to the Locklear 'hold' and saying that the call is made is pee wee football...
Hey I've got no problem if the officials want to call it a hold IFFFFFFFFF they freaking call it on the other team when they do it TOOOOO!!!! you asswipe. Pitt performed this stiff arm all game long as Byrce and Wistrom were beating the DE's all game the only way for the tackles to stop them was to hold and arm bar them. It looked like a three stooges movie where the Seahawk players couldn't do anything but reach their arms out as their heads were being rolled back to their spines by the Pitt offensive line clothsline move. So how do you defend that inconsistency you dilrod? Also, on the Locklear play his man jumped of sides for crimony sakes (several times I might add) which led to Lock having to defend with that 'ahem' hold.

Sorry to monopolize your guys Madden thread but I gotta chime in when it comes to the Hawks and the ignorance of the Pitt idiots. It's the writer's fault and the guys who responded to it. : )

John - How incredibly refreshing and cool of you to say that. I'm sorry I lumped all Steeler fans in one pile. You are and exception.
Posted: 7:40 PM, August 24, 2006   by Anonymous
In the game, all the Seahawks fans are white, when you play in Atlanta, all the fans are black. Nice touch, EA. I'm still waiting to play a game in Green Bay to see if they're all fat.
the seahawks might have been screwed out but the Phx Suns get screwed out every time they play dallas and San Antonio.
Screw the Squealers and their cheating refs!!!
Posted: 1:26 AM, August 25, 2006   by Anonymous
seriously! Thats awesome... the whole racist/true thing. I bet instead of cheering the Packers and Viking fans all just yell "Oh Yaaah!" and it is always raining in seattle and the philly fans boo on every play...that would be sweet

the green bay packers are the greates nfl franchise ever just look at there 12 championships anyone else have that many? brett favre is a nfl god no other qb can came close to him.... madden is the best game ever made nfl 2k5 is horrible game the way the other player can see what play you pick is just stupid
Posted: 11:14 AM, August 25, 2006   by Anonymous
Don't forget everything that the game lacks. No coop mode, can't change the camera angles, no online league support, no fantasy drafts, horrible play by play commentary (I never thought I'd beg for the same re-tread Madden lines back, but they managed to make it even worse), no gang tackling. For the few positive changes they destroyed things that actually made the game fun. EA is actually managing to regress from year to year, it's now two Xbox 360 versions in a row I won't buy.

Look, steelers won, so what? get over it. there's nothing you whiny americans can do about it. and stop saying that this year's SB was boring. it almost always is. deal with it. anywone heard of the CFL??? canadian football?
well its like NFL, but bigger plays, fewer downs, and no player is a rich snob demanding a trade.
u americans should look up to the cfl and its fans. better game, better fans. thats just the way it is.
Posted: 4:01 PM, August 25, 2006   by Anonymous
To the creapy canadian guy who made the comment about the CFL...WE OWN YOU.

If anyone doubts Bettis' skills, write a letter to Brian Urlacher and see what he has to say...he'll tell you how it felt to be one of the best linebakers in all of football and still get RUN OVER by the Bus.

That comment about the steelers should not have been made, only hell from crazed fans of both teams has come of it, too many people are lying about thier age, theres no way this many grown men can whine like this.

The last Madden I played was 05, completely missed 06. I still enjoyed playing 05 up until the day I picked up 07 (mostly because Alexander the Great was on the cover). Had I not picked up 07, I'd still be playing 05 and enjoying the heck out of it. I like the Madden games, but I particularly like the superstar feature in Madden 07. I haven't felt the rush of getting my number called like I do in regular franchise mode. It's relaly thrilling. I also like SS mode in the sense that you don't really have a choice as to which team you start out on. This gets me rooting for someone other than Seattle, I find myself actually rooting for Jacksonville to win a game. It increases awareness of other teams, other players, helps me enjoy the real NFL that much more. I think it's a great feature.

I also LOVE the new running game. I'm glad we can now power through defenders, or avoid them with an agility move instead of juking of spinning. Good addition.

No comments on the SB, since I am a Seahawks fan.

So how much did EA pay for this "review"?
Posted: 3:43 PM, August 26, 2006   by Anonymous
Considering it was the Super Bowl, there is nothing cheap about that comment. Madden '07 is once again the best of football gaming, though it is short of being spectacular(like Big "no helmet" Ben at the goaline).
Posted: 5:03 PM, August 26, 2006   by Anonymous
Why would you even keep talking about the superbowl its over. Football isnt all about the refs its about how you deal with the calls great players and teams can overcome what the refs call.
Posted: 8:54 PM, August 26, 2006   by Anonymous
the steelers should have lost against cinci they would have if van olwhatever did cheap shot palmer he was about to tear u guys up
cfl better than NFL hahahahaha we have college players better than cfl stars and you might bring up warren moon and how he was a great cfl to nfl player but he would have never got into the hall of fame without his nfl numbers. And America owns canada in sports. eh!
the cfl doesnt hold a candle to the NFL the cfl is full of NFL rejects. And the game isnt even as good as Divison II A college football. America is better than Canada across the board. How do you like that eh!
Posted: 11:46 PM, August 26, 2006   by Anonymous
As a Seahawks fan and a referee for another sport, I just can't understand how our fans, or a lot of fans for that matter, don't understand the difference between judgement calls and plain referee mistakes. Two "true mistakes" in the Super Bowl occurred on the non-call block in the back that occurred against Roethlisberger (on his INT return) and the "tackle" that Hasselbeck made on his INT return. The rest is judgement, and from what I saw, they appeared to be the right calls, regardless of the fact that they went against my team. I know it hurts, but come on now. If you disagree, fine, but you can't argue that those weren't judgement calls. Toughest calls I've seen in any Super Bowl, ever. Steelers deserved their spoils. Big plays at key times.

If last years 360 version was a 4....which it was, this years version is maybe a 7. They have added lots of new things that weren't needed and left out soooo much that makes the game great. The biggest thing the left out is being able to audible individual defensive players before the snap. There is also the fact you get about 20 faces to choose from and no choice of hair, hair color, face hair ect. ect. franchise mode is boring, there is no owner aspect to it anymore. The superstar is lame. When you play as your "superstar" the camera is zoomed waaaay in and the controls are different. Not even playable to me. Since you can no longer adjust players stats yourself, you r forced to get xbox live if you want the rosters to be accurate. I could go on and on, very very un happy with this game. Been playing since 1996 and I think they peeked in 2004.....and now it seems to be going down hill. They need to quit trying to add all this crap and just refine the game they had in 2004. BTW xbox 360 blows too. Can't wait for PS3 to come out.
Posted: 5:42 PM, August 27, 2006   by Anonymous
Ohyeah, it lags between screens like a Commador64 from the 80s too. Lots of clipping and lagging. And the Endurance metor doesnt work at all...all players have full energy always!
I would recomend getting the original xbox version and just playing it on your 360. Much more playable, and the graphics aren't much different
Posted: 8:39 PM, August 27, 2006   by Anonymous
Haha, its funny how all of you run your mouths about the Steelers. If I do recall the Super Bowl correctly, the Steelers won and would have won without Ben's "controversial” touchdown. The Seahawks played like garbage as did the Steelers, but they won. Maybe they weren’t the better team, but they played better when it mattered. So, say what you will about them, about Coach Cowher, they won and its over. You all need to get over it! It’s been seven almost eight months. Please, quit your whining! I on the other hand am going to sit here and laugh about all the ridiculous comments all you idiots make. They have been said over and over and over and over again and no matter how much you say them, its not going to change a damn thing about any of it. We’ll see what team puts up or shuts up when it matters and then you little “sore” losers cry some more. Get over it!!

Please do a feature on the shortcomings of Madden 07 for the 360. As some have alluded to it's entirely different than previous releases, as well as different from other platforms. (PS2, regular XBOX). It's missing many of the features that have made the franchise so great in the past, while also having several nasty glitches.

The worst part about it is that it is being blatantly ignored by EA.

I guess this is what buying up sole rights does.

I'm a die hard seahawk fan, and I'm tired of hearing everyone complianing about the superbowl. What's done is done and we can't change it.In my opinion though, if those so called steeler fans really believed their team won that game, there would be no reason for them to feel the need to justify the so called win.
