Gilbert's All-Time Top Video Games
Gilbert Arenas poses with NBA Live 08.
By Lang Whitaker, SI.com
He is known alternately as Agent Zero, the Black President, The East Coast Assassin and The Hibachi, though his actual name is Gilbert Arenas. He is primarily a scoring point guard for the Washington Wizards, although he also moonlights as a blogger, a video gamer, a fashionista and a guy who can perform acrobatic dunks off of trampolines. My favorite bit of Gilbert trivia: According to Esquire magazine, Gilbert once ordered a colon cleaner after seeing it advertised on an infomercial.
Part of Gilbert's charm -- besides his proclivity for doing the unexpected -- is that he constantly believes he is being overlooked. When Gilbert found out he was going to be the cover athlete of NBA Live 08, he broke down in tears. It might not seem like a big deal for a guy whose name is known by millions around the world, but as an avid video gamer, Gilbert saw it as a mark of respect.
Last week in Manhattan, at a party to show off an early build of Live 08, SI.com asked Gilbert for his five favorite video games of all-time. Gilbert selected four games. Hey, he is Gilbert Arenas, after all.
1. Halo -- Gilbert's first choice. He actually sponsors a professional Halo team called Final Boss. Gilbert says he's good only at Halo 1, not Halo 2 or Halo 3 (which isn't even officially out yet).
2. Pacman -- "When I was a kid I'd go down to the Laundromat and play Pacman, on the big old arcade machine. Not really Ms. Pacman, but Pacman." Mr. Pacman? "Yeah."
3. NBA Live 95 -- "My friend got a PlayStation, and then I went out and bought Live. So he owned the PlayStation, but I owned the game. I'd bring it over there to play it, but then take it home with me, too, so he couldn't practice."
4. Contra -- The title of the game was all he said, and he said it with such passion that I couldn't question him further.
What's Gilbert missing out on? Give us your best video games of all time below.

Top five games All-Time: 1. Halo Series, 2. Grand Theft Auto Series, 3. Zelda Series,4. Ghost N Goblins (Arcade) and 5. Tony Hawk Series.
Top Five NOW Games: 1. Forza Motorsport 2, 2. Gears of War, 3. Saints Row,4. Guitar Hero 2 and 5. Xbox Live Arcade. I know 5 isn't an actual game but c'mon aside from PS3 fanboys who doesn't LOVE Xbox Live Arcade and its retro/classic games? Long Live Xbox!!
madden '06 was pretty awesome. The qb vision feature was amazing. That made it even more like the real thing than anyone could ever hope for. Then there was the brand new superstar mode. This was the first time they did superstar mode. Add in the fact that they added in a truck stick, which is a dream for any ballcarrier, and you get one of the alltime best video games. Madden has always been a top five brand, and '06 was their best version.
Thats cool he a sponser for Final Boss, they are one of the top MLG teams and I believe have a million dollar deal. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start.... Time to own Contra.
Games left out (excluding NextGen games) -Super Smash Bros Melee (Game Cube) -Super Mario Brothers (SNES) -GTA Vice City -Advanced PacMan should be there instead of regular PacMan. Ms and regular Pac are way too easy.
I played NBA Live '95 on my Genesis... love that game... my favorite is probably Shaq-Fu, because it is the corniest game ever made... (BTW, it was ranked as the worst game ever made for a Nintendo system...
Something about that story for NBA Live 95 is a little suspect. It was only on Super Nintendo and Genesis. PlayStation wasn't even out back then! I believe the first Live game for PlayStation was 97, with Mitch Richmond on the cover.
Can't really argue with Gilbert's picks, but I'd show more love for Nintendo games and Street Fighter II.
I think if your going to list the Top Video Games of all time it would have to be by system.. not just in title.. cause some of the systems just had certain games that were addicting... like Dreamcast and Crazy Taxi.. or Tecmo Bowl and Nintendo... Mike Tysons Punchout and Super Nintendo..that was on the TOP of Nintendo Powers top games list for like a year straight back in the day !!
1- RBI Baseball, love St. Louis, Vince Coleman maybe the fastest video game athlete EVER!!!! 2- Super Tecmo Bowl, QB Eagles, nuff said. 3- NHL '95 with Richter on the cover, the Legion of Doom line. 4- Bill Walsh Football, no licenses, with the "greats teams" i.e. South Bend '88 5- Any Madden with Franchise/Owner Mode, took Arizona to LA and built a dynasty amassing over a Billion in total revenue. And 2, count'em, 2 back-to-back undefeated seasons!!!
I won't rank my top 5, as I like them all sorta equally...
Contra Baseball Stars (I can't believe nobody has mentioned this one yet...) Ice Hockey NHL 93 (one timers revolutionized hockey as we played it in video games) NCAA football - any year (I'm one of the very few who prefers it to Madden) F-Zero on the old SNES. Loved that game.
