Trade Day in College Football
Florida trades QB Chris Leak to USC for WR Steve Smith. The Gators have highly-touted QB Tim Tebow to replace Leak but still need a receiver to replace Chad Jackson, who is now a member of the New England Patriots. Florida receiver Andre Caldwell is still a question mark as he recovers from a broken right leg and Smith would provide another weapon for Tebow. The Trojans, meanwhile, are solid at receiver with Dwayne Jarrett but need an experienced QB to replace Matt Leinart and keep the position warm until John David Booty or Mark Sanchez take over.
Arizona State trades QB Sam Keller to Texas for guard Kasey Studdard and center Lyle Sendlein. The emergence of sophomore Rudy Carpenter makes Keller expendable, and the team needs to strengthen its offensive line. The Longhorns, meanwhile, are entering the post-Vince Young era with two freshman -- Colt McCoy and Jevan Snead -- ready to take the QB reins. We'd prefer to let them both sit for a year behind Keller. The loss of Studdard and Sendlein is a big one, but offensive linemen seem to grow on trees in Texas, so the Longhorns should be able to replace both players.
Now it's your turn to play GM. Tell us your best trade.
I would trade one of Notre Dame's best lineman for some secondary help. i can't think of anyone good off the top of my head due to the amount of secondary drafted this year. but nd needs help there badly and is deep in OL
University of Louisville trades back-up RB Kolby Smith, who would be a solid first choice on most teams, to Virginia Tech for either Defensive End, Noland Burchette or Chris Ellis. Louisville must replace three starters up front including last year's NCAA sack leader, Elvis Dumervil, and Tech has very capable back-ups. Besides, Tech owes Louisville for Marcus Vick's step to the groin in the Gator Bowl.
I would trade Georgia WR Sean Bailey to Florida for QB Tim Tebow. Georgia still doesn't have a starting QB and Florida needs a reciever to replace Andre Jackson.
Bobbyhole, your trade idea is misguided. If you trade away Tebow, you basically are trading away Florida's future (at least for 2007-2008 or so.) If Florida has to give away a QB, Leak would be less detrimental. Everyone seems to think Tebow is ready to step up, and Leak would only have another year of school anyway. Now, what Florida could use is a RB, because none of them are remotely threatening. I'd happily exchange Leak for a good RB, but most of them seem to be in programs that are happy with their QBs, so I doubt there would be any takers on that trade.
I would trade Miami TE Greg Olson to Florida State for WR Chris Davis. Miami has 2 other great TE's behind Olson and needs WR's! FSU has some great young talent at WR and could use a star TE for 2006 as they have 5 star TE recruit Brandon Warren for the next 4 years!
First of all bobbyhole's trade is stupid. Matthew Stafford is better than Tebow, so another frosh QB means nothing. Also, I think any true Texas fan would do the trade proposed (Keller for Sendlein and Studdard) in a heartbeat.
I would trade Jonathan Crompton and Eric Ainge to Florida for Tim Tebow. Tennessee is so screwed at the QB position, I will take a true freshman over both these guys. Everyone saw what Cutcliff done with a mobile QB with no experience....Oh yea they went 13-0 and won it all
Two offensive linemen for Keller? I don't know about that. Especially since he is nowhere near as mobile as Young. How about one of the Longhorns stable of RBs to LSU for Ryan Perrilloux?
I know that he's officially declared that he's transferring, but what if Texas sent Ramonce Taylor to Baton Rouge? The Tigers have a serious question mark at staring tailback and Taylor gives them a versatile option there.
And hopefully, his year in college has matured Perrilloux. Some Texas fans might still be upset at the way he treated them during the recruiting process but all would be very quickly forgotten with wins over Ohio State and Oklahoma. Obviously, he doesn't have the experience that Keller brings to the table but his athleticism and big arm could make up for some of that. And he's cocky enough to actually make it work.
Antonio Pittman to Penn State for Poz. Buckeyes need a veteran shoring up their D, and they have plenty of RB's. Pittman is great, but Wells could be better.
A good trade would be Tim Tebow for Calvin Johnson. Reggie Ball isn't going to take Tech anywhere and Calvin Johnson could be outright dominant with a good qb. Trade= championship for FLA and future success for GT.
Another good trade would be Vandy's star wr Earl Bennett to Miami for 2 to 3 blue chip recruits in the class of 2007 and 2008. This is hyopthetical of course, but would give a Miami much needed immediate offensive spark that could lead them to a championship or bcs bowl, which in turn would put them back at the top in recruiting and allow Vanderbilt to have young, talented recruits they couldn't get themselves.
First off, Mr. Bobbyhole, it's CHAD Jackson that has to be replaced, and Bailey is out for the season.
Here are two trades I would make:
Georgia Tech sends Reggie Ball and Chan Gailey to Army for a six pack of Coke.
Oregon sends their yellow jerseys to St. Mary's school for the blind for someone that won't be able to read the BCS rankings.
Mac, VT doesn't need any help at RB. They have Brenden Ore (better than Imoh) and George Bell (similar to Humes) waiting. If anything, they would trade for a QB, as they need someone with playing experience.
Also, it was a step on the leg, not the groin.
Please tell me what incentive penn state would possibly have to trade their star linebacker and team leader who would have been a high first round pick if not for his injury, for nothing more than a solid runningback, when they already have a solid running back in Tony Hunt who rushed for 100 yards last season. You have absolutely no logic. Trades work both ways, not just one.
There is no way I would trade Pittman for Poz. Poz is an excellent linebacker. However, Pittman, I believe is the most underrated back in college football. He is very talented. Ohio State is 7 deep at linebacker. Ohio State would then have a true freshman and a sophmore no where close to Pittman in talent.
I almost agree with you. We return a lot of starters in the OL but we are NOT deep there. Under every starter is some guy who has no playing time...not my definition of depth.
what about mich states drew stanton for Oklahomas rhett bomar? it would give OU a better shot at a big 12 title, and it will give MSU a stanton-like (however not as good)QB for the next few years. It would also help us Wolverine fans, because stanton gives us headaches every year
Hmm, i agree with your statement. we have several young top recruits coming in who i feel could step up. Although we do need secondary help no doubting that.
How about trading all the ridiculous hype of Tim Tebow with all the hype that Notre Dame is getting after beating 1 decent team last year and having a defense that is horrible.
ASU trades a QB to Bama for some BBQ and some booster money.
Duke trades their entire team with Temple and nobody notices.
ASU trading Keller to Texas for offensive lineman?? ASU's got seven guys who have started on the offensive line.
The Devils needs defense. Send Keller to Texas for Michael Griffin/Tarell Brown and shore up our horrible secondary.
I would make a three way trade. Florida sends Chris Leak for to texas who sends (recently departed) Ramonce Taylor & Michael Griffin to Oklahoma for (always injured)Adrian Peterson. UF gets a running game, UT get a QB, and OU just gets a few more pieces in a puzzle of a season.
yes reed4u...we will trade the "hype"...genius post.
how about trading pete carrol for the head cheerleader and no one notices?
Who in God's green earth would trade Kasey Studdard and Lyle Sendlein for Sam Keller. Keller's a great qb, but no matter how good a qb is, hes nothing without a good offensive line. Studdard and Sendlein help give the horns one of, if not THE best o-line in the big 12.
Richard,i hope u were joking or u do not watch much college football! why would Army trade for a washed out Pro football coach when they already have a proven winner at the college(Geogia Tech) and the Pro(San Diego) level in Bobby Ross.
After going to school at Army without Bobby Ross and then a year when he was there, i can tell u that Army is going to improve and Boddy Ross has them on the right track! with his scheme im not worried about the offense even though they are losing most of their offense in Zach Dahman and Carlton Jones, i think the jey to their success is a great linebacker or cornerback! they are def unable to stop anyones pssing game right now with no rush and no enough speed on the corners! but there is hope on the hudson valley with Bobby Ross at the helm!
PSU trades Justin King to Florida for Markus Manson. PSU will need a solid RB to fill Hunt and Scott's shoes, and Florida could use a playmaker at WR/CB.
