Who's should go No. 1 - Quinn or Russell?

Oakland Arena
JaMarcus Russell got the best of Brady Quinn in the Sugar Bowl, but who should the Raiders take with the No. 1 pick?

If Wednesday night's Sugar Bowl was any indication, the Oakland Raiders will select LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell with the No. 1 pick in April's draft. However, Notre Dame's Brady Quinn may have something to say about it. Quinn's performance in the loss to LSU was mediocre at best (15-35, 148 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT), but many feel that Quinn has the potential to be a franchise quarterback, and it certainly doesn't hurt that he spent the last two years with Charlie Weis.

But after watching the 6-6, 260-pound Russell sling the ball around the field on Wednesday night, we'd take the LSU star (if he declares for the draft; he's a junior). A Pop Warner team could get penetration on the Raiders' offensive line and Oakland needs someone who can escape the pocket and make plays like Vince Young.

Who do you think should be No. 1 – Smith, Russell or a darkhorse we haven’t mentioned (Troy Smith, Brian Brohm, Kevin Kolb)?

Joe Thomas. Everyone needs a left tackle that can run, hit and control the line. You get a good left tackle, your whole offense improves. Calvin Johnson is great, but it don't mean Jack if the quarterback doesn't have time to throw.

The Raiders should open the vault for Matt Schaub, trade down and take Joe Thomas, Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson.

I think it has to be Calvin Johnson. It sounds like the ownership wants Moss to stick around, so thats a great 1-2 WR combo. Even I could hit them with a deep pass or 2 a game. Then spend the rest of their picks on OL and they'd be much better. Or Peterson would be solid too.

They need help everywhere on offense. I'm guessing they swap picks with Detroit, and grab Calvin in the #2 spot. Quinn will probobly go #1 and become the next Ryan Leaf.

certainly not Brady Smith...has the exact same hype and deer-caught-in-headlights look as Eli Manning.

Brian Cupito was a record setting passer at minnesota
I think that deserves the first pick

I think kevin kolb's stock will rise once the combine comes around and all the scouts realize how fast, strong, and smart he is, but i doubt it will rise to #1. I think he will end up being a late first round or early second round pick.

I am not sure Brady Quinn deserves a #1 pick anymore than Notre Dame deserved a BSC bowl. It is pretty obvious that his numbers versus their cream-puff schedule were nowhere close to what they were against UM, USC, and LSU. If he thinks LSU's defense is fast, wait until he runs into Ray Lewis or Urlacher. Actually, I think the fact that he WAS under a pro offense could actually hurt him. If he can't run a pro style offense against college teams, how is he going to do it in the pros? It was kind of like a failed tryout.

I hope the raiders draft Brady he is gonna suck in the Pros as much as he has sucked against every quality opponent he has faced. Raiders Suck and I am OK with that

Calvin Johnson #1.. Dump Moss/Porter and pick up Plummer for 2007 QB. If availible, grab Troy Smith rd #2 with first pick for future QB (2008) or Stanton from Mich. State in rd #3.

I agree, the Raiders have many needs on offense. They should trade down, dump the disgruntled Porter and Moss, take Calvin Johnson or Dwayne Jarrett and if they can get Adrian Peterson as well they will have a significant upgrade in attitude and offense.

Jamarcus is a special QB who has had a knack for big plays and winning since his first moments with LSU. I was at his first game in the rain against Oregon State, which our starting QB and company nearly blew, where he came in and hit Bowe on stride from 50 yards twice for TD's (one was called back), hit recievers on the hands while defenders hung off his huge body, and dove into the end zone after a broken play to tie it up at the end. I thought to myself, "LSU will never have a QB this physically talented ever again". He is the real deal, without Quinn's hype.

Troy Smith??? Are you serious???

The guy is listed as 6'0 but its widely known he is more like 5'10.

And dont say "but doug flutie...."

No. He's 5'10 therefore he is not 1st round material.

On the other hand, he would make a great 2nd-3rd round pick.

i think you have to select russel from lsu, you cant go with a WR as your number one pick b/c they dont win you games defense and strong QB play wins games. The raiders have wasted many picks on players like rober gallery so i say joe thomas is out~ brohm is a good choice but lacks arm strength and mobility... right now russel is the best option. darkhorse may be adrian peterson

Calvin Johnson for sure, his whole career he has been dominant. With his size and speed he can go up against any DB and win a battle. Plus he is a lot faster that he looks.
