Adopt-a-Program

Oakland Arena
The Boston College football fanbase will get bigger next year with the addition of students from St. Joe's. Should this be allowed to happen?

In one of the stranger sports stories we've seen in a while, Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia has officially "adopted" the Boston College football team. The school doesn't have the finances to field its own team, so the school's University Student Senate, Student Activities, and the Athletics Department got together and came up with this adopting BC idea (even though the two schools have little in common outside their Jesuit roots). While no BC home games will be played in Philadelphia, St. Joe's students do have the option of attending a game in Boston.

Frankly, we think this is a little bizarre, and we're not sure if we back this random school adopting another school business. What do you think? Should St. Joe's be allowed to call BC its college football team ... or should the students just accept that they are attending a school without a football program, and get on with their lives?

oh come on, you know how many schools without football programs root for other schools? this is harmless and frankly fun.
When Villanova dropped their football program in the 80's many of their players went off to other schools, so should the student body not have rooted for those players on their new teams??
This is actually pretty refreshing in the jaded world of college sports.

This is dumb, just root for the teams you want to root for, you dont have to have an affiliation with them. I go to a Div-II school in Washington state that has a football and basketball team, yet i still root for the UW Huskies, i dont need to have been adopted by them, i still go to games and consider them my team.

This is stupid. I'm a student at SJU and this has absolutely no meaning. I guarantee that none of the student body even knows about this. I still will not be a BC fan, I am a Penn State fan. Either we need to get a football team or we shouldn't have one at all.

I'm all for people rooting for other teams, especially if they don't have one of their own. But to "adopt" a team...it's weird.

And as a BC alum, I'm a bit offended. We don't need another school to adopt us. Did BC have a say in this? Or is SJU like Brangelina, adopting any child they choose?
