One Shining Moment Alternatives

Oakland Arena
We think Aerosmith's Dream On would be a perfect choice as a replacement for One Shining Moment. What's your choice?
Steve Erle/SI
We love One Shining Moment, but some may argue that you could put any slow song to a montage of tourney highlights and it would work. After all, it's the plays you want to see, not the cheesy song. So if the fine folks at CBS are listening, SIOC suggested 10 songs we would choose, including Van Halen's Right Now, Aerosmith's Dream On and The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony. Now it's your turn.

Tell us your replacement for One Shining Moment.

Anything other than the John Mellencamp song from the Chevy commericals is fine by me.

One Shining Mo-MENT!!

I'd say take the chance to update it, appeal to the hip-hop crowd.
Jay-Z, Moment of Clarity
or
Tupac, Still Ballin'
or even the classic
Will Smith, Gettin' Jiggy With It

"Best of You" by the Foo Fighters. Hands down. It's high time someone used this for a montage.

You have to keep "One Shining moment" in. It's classic! That montage has inspired my buddies and I to try to start an all montage all the time channel on cable. Think about it, nothing on t.v., you can sit and watch montages of past sporting events. It's gold.

Sure, you could pick another song and make an effective montage, but "One Shining Moment" still resonates with me everytime. Plus, it *IS* the NCAA tournament. When else do you get to hear that song? Honestly, the highlights they select aren't the part I anticipate; if you want to best recreate the excitement of those moments, you really need the commentary, not the music. Also, these other songs you mentioned all already have other associations.

Just one thing: I don't remember if they've switched back or not, but the version they were playing in the early 90s is light years better than the version they were using a few years ago. It bothered me when they switched it.

Gawd. From Nantz' rehearsed catchpharases -- anyone remember "The Duke of Destiny" -- to "One Shining Moment, there needs to be a complete rework of CBS' coverage. Start with Lundquist, and I'll go with Rob's suggestion of "Best of You."

I remember one year when the Final Four was in Indy and the song that year was Your Life Is Now by John Mellencamp. I think this song is better than One Shining Moment.

Rather than "Right Now" by Van Halen, I'd suggest "Dreams." About 12 years back, there was a GREAT NHL playoff montage right before the conference finals set to this song, and I still remember it vividly to this day.

Other suggestions:
-"Livin' on a Prayer" or "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi

-"Walk On" by U2

-"Until the Day I Die" by Story of the Year

Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice"

" CAN'T STOP " Red Hot Chilli Peppers

It has a great groove and cool bridge that is great for montages. Also lyrics like
" can't stop addicted to the shindig, chop chop he says I'm gonna win BIG" and
" In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the westend
Knocked out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth as some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble"

DREAMS-Van Halen. Nuff Said.

one shining moment was boring. I agree with rob on the whole foo fighters song but not "Best of you" maybe something more uptempo like "learn to fly" or "DOA".

Wild Wild West by Will Smith, or What's Left of Me by Nick Lachey. Two great songs.

Sure...you could find numerous other songs that would still inflict goose bumps despite my post championship game buzz...however; I would be extremely disappointed if CBS replaced "OSM" with anything. Didn't we try this with MNF's "Get Ready" a few years ago?
