Why Ohio State will win
Wrong. Florida may have the edge in both talent and experience, but they don't have Greg Oden and Mike Conley, both of whom are talented enough to carry the Buckeye squad to victory. That's not to say that the Gators don't have game-changers of their own, but Oden and Conley will be the two best players on the court. The the real key to this game, however, is Thad Matta, and whether he can devise a scheme that will allow his freshmen to shine. Billy Donovan outcoached Ben Howland on Saturday, and we have no doubt he's up to the challenge against OSU, but the pressure in on Motta. Can he devise a strategy to stop Florida's perimeter play? Can he figure out a way to keep Oden in the game and not on the bench? Can he get the real Daequan Cook to come out and play, as opposed to the version we've seen throughout the tournament?
The schemes of Matta, in our opinion, are the key to this game. And we have confidence in the OSU coach, which is why we're going against the grain and predicting a Buckeye victory, 77-71.
Who do you think will win and why?
I completely agree. Everyone talks about Florida's big men, but I'd rather have one Oden then the combo of Noah and Horford. Florida is going down!!
Flordia is going to spank Ohio State!
While i also agree with the points mentioned above, i think what could be a huge factor is the defense of David Lighty on Corey Brewer. Lighty has shown the ability to be a lock down defender in the tourny. I would also love to see Oden just pound that rat Noah all night. They key as always for OSU is hitting some outside shots to stretch the D. Pulling for the Bucks!
It was more improbable for OSU to get to the championship game than it is for them to win it. It doesn't matter if they outplay Florida or get lucky. Either way, they've got a good shot of winning.
Default OSU Fan
This Ohio State basketball team reminds me of the 2002 Buckeye Football team. Every single matchup is a nail biter. I must confess though, I enjoy the emotional rollercoaster and there's nothing better than triumph over an over hyped Hurricane team - oops, I meant Gator!!! Go Bucks!
Florida may have a better inside game than us but with oden in there and with complete use of both hands there inside game will struggle and we will have to work them to the end of the shot clock and have the ball in the wrong guys hand if we do this Ohio State will come out on top and this game will be decided on the outside game and Oden not getting into foul trouble. florida will go right at him inside and we need as many minutes as we can get out of him.
LETS GO BUCKS ALL OF OHIO IS BEHIND YOU. AS WE SAY HERE INSTEAD OF DOWN WITH MICHIGAN. DOWN WITH FLORIDA. O-H-I-O.
Good points, one and all.
I am just hoping for a good game. I can handle OSU losing, but I can't handle them not being prepared (BCS). Florida has the edge in experience and chemistry, OSU has the edge in pure talent. We'll see which one is more valuable to a championship tonight
I think the real key at this point is the confidence of both teams. Remember, OSU was the receipient of a 26 point spaking by the Gators in December. I know Oden's better, Conley's the next Magic or JKidd, blah, blah, blah. But, if Florida doesn't get lazy and think the game's in the bag (OSU football in January? *COUGH*), then Florida does win in a rout. They have just been playing together for too long, and have too many ways to beat you.
Now that the game is over, it's almost sad to see how optimistic the poor Buckeyes must feel. . with a third straight loss to a Fla club. Two in basketball and one in football. Afterall, Fla made history to be the same school to win both championships in one calendar year but OSU "might" have done the same thing. . .for losing. Talk about being shellshocked. Even allowing Oden to hack his way defensively. . .couldn't prevent him from wearing out. He didn't foul out. .well, technically. .but he sure as hell..wore out.
The better team . . won.
I didnt think OSU was going to make it to the championship game. I had Tennessee taking them out but knew that if they didnt then OSU would have a good shot because of the style of thier gameplay. With that said they overcame alot and took down some experienced tourney teams. They hung in there with Florida but Florida had it all the way. Knowing Billy D, what you saw was Plan A and he was never pressured to switch to plan B or Plan C which would have been to pound the inside and emplore the press. Then we would have seen a bigger deficit. Congrats to both clubs on a good climb to the top. As a Gator I know im not opposed to an OSU vs UF game every year, or at least pre-season scrimmage. It obvious these two clubs know how to get things done and could learn alot from eachother.
