College Football's Best Uniforms
1. Texas 2. Michigan 3. Auburn 4. Yale 5. Notre Dame (blue) 6. Wofford 7. Ohio State 8. Georgia Southern 9. USC 10. Georgia Did we forget about your school? Can you not believe Georgia Southern is the number-on-the-helmet team listed and not Alabama? Let us know who you think should be in the Top 10. Comments:Overall I see you have gone with the best being the classic, clean looks, with the worst being the more modern flashy uniforms. I can dig that, but indeed, Ga. southern over Alabama? You done bumped your head, cuz!
What's so good about Georgia Southern, Woffard, and Yale's uniforms? I don't see them as anything special
Best Uniform not shown. Best Orange is the other T. TENNESSEE
Looking at the list, there is one thing missing.
Penn State. Simplicity seems to be the key to a good uniform. Therefore, what's better than a simple 2 color scheme with nothing on the jersey except a number? I would put it up there with Texas and Michigan Michigan's Uniform is the best one by far......you cant beat the winged helmet.
Ok...some of these I can see but Texas at #1? Not a chance. You left off such classics as Penn St (perfect in its understated stoicism...just like Joe Pa), U of Chicago, Hawaii, Florida State, and the great cartoonishness of Arizona St. Plus, there is no way Georgia is on this list. Any team that copies an NFL team...and poorly I might add...should automaticaly be disqualified (sorry Colorado St)
Texas? Texas?!?! How does Texas have the best uniforms? I will admit that I am biased on this (no love for my school, Texas A&M), but come on, Michigan and Notre Dame have some classy uniforms, which seemed to be a theme on this list, which was otherwise dominated by old-school, clean, classy uniforms. So why does the number one team have orange uniforms?
Wofford and Yale are a little similar, and Wofford's uniform is slightly better, so I would leave Yale off the list and include Ole Miss, which has really good-looking uniforms. Also, Michigan's uniforms aren't really that great. I wouldn't put them in the top ten and certainly wouldn't put them at number two.
Thanks for putting Texas at number one. I love the burnt orange with the longhorns. Hook'em Horns!
You can't be serious! 6 of those uniforms are just plain colors. Don't forget about Florida State and the University of Hawaii Warriors (with the tribal tattoo).
What about LOUISVILLE? The big cardinal head on the side of the helmet, and the black and red jereys.
Yes, Texas deserves the #1 slot...but what about UCLA? The blue-on-gold color scheme is both unique and traditional at the same time. UCLA should be somewhere in your Top 10.
not sure how you could leave out a classic Oklahoma Red and White or for that matter a classic Alabama uniform that has been around for ever.
In what alternate universe could ANYONE think Texas has the best looking uniforms, honestly? And pretty much every school you picked was blue and white? The only 2 schools that were even slightly original would have been USC and Aurburn, and USC's uniforms are ugly! Notre Dame and Michigan - please - what is the love affair with these schools???
USC and Michigan should have been on last week's list. And to not put Alabama on the list is pretty lame.
Are you serious? Texas with the best uniforms? Those things are ugly as sin.
You guys must have a lot of time on your hands. With very few exceptions, the 'worst' and 'best' uniforms look pretty much the same to me.
I kinda liked the Gator throwbacks UF had against Alabama this year. They looked very sharp.
How about the Maryland Terps black and red uniforms? How about Texas A&M?? You have Yale and some others that should be on the WORST list!
There were some great choices in both weeks' categories, such as OSU to the good and of course, Oregon as the worst (Buck Rogers would not wear that!) But I can't help wondering how you can pick Michigan as #2 for the best uniforms and you picked Delaware as one of the worst. If one player from each team walked in the room, without the name anywhere mentioned, I would have trouble picking which is which.
And Georgia Southern? Notre Dame and Wofford must have gotten a volume discount, so why not put Navy in that group? You put Wofford on your list, who basically has the same uniform as Colorado. Buffs have a much better logo, so why not go with them? I do commend your inclusion of a small school, though.
Ditch Ohio State from this list and add Penn State.
The Nittany Lions classic White and Blue - no names, no logos. It's all about the TEAM. College footbal is all about playing for your school, not for yourself. I can't believe Big orange from Tennessee wasn't on teh list. It is the most recognized uniform because of the color scheme and design. I would like to know who determined the Top 10. I never saw a vote site.
Pretty good list, except for placing Texas over Michigan. This is a classic case of trying to be different and not picking the obvious -- kind of like picking someone other than USC as the preseason #1. Everyone who's not just picking their favorite school would agree that Michigan has the best uniforms in ANY sport: college or pro.
Sorry, but Texas does not have the best-looking uniform in college football. I personally like Auburn's uniform a lot. As a Rutgers fan, I am biased towards theirs, and I thought Cincinnati's black uniforms are pretty sleak.
USC's uniform only makes this list because they have been winning a lot. Red and yellow just don't go together that well.
Burnt Orange has got to be one of the ugliest colors there are, so why was Texas picked as the best uniform? The logo is cool, but that's about it.
Wow...you guys sure did a good job of including all the big names in college football (Texas, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Auburn). I guess if you get a good uniform, you become a good team, or maybe its just those people voting on the best uniforms kissing up to the big names. Who knows, maybe another USC player needs their families home given to them rent free..do you have some spare money?
meeeechian!!!!!!! no doubt.
I am not a Penn State fan but their away and home uniforms are #1 and #2 respectively in my mind. Simplicity, not flash.
The first 5 uniforms you choose all look the same. Check out the University of Hawaii's uniforms. They have a good color scheme and they are unique with the shark tooths print on the pant leg, and the H on the side of the helmet. This should have made top 3 for sure.
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/photo_sport.html?p=3 Yale, GA Southern, Wofford?!?!?!? You have got to be kidding.... Someone needs to check the resumes of those that produced this. Surely there are some alumni from these schools in there.
Penn State, Florida, and Alabama should have been on the list in place of the three terrible choices that were made. How could the garnet and gold of Florida State be left off of this list? The spear on the helmet is one of the more intimidating symbols in football despite the recent lack of success on the field. I think it trumps the "traditional" (aka boring) uniforms of Wofford or Notre Dame.
Great choice on Ga Southern busting in the top 10! The navy and white old school style is far superior to the others. Not sure I agree with Wofford or Yale, but definitely a good balance of great looking uniforms!
GATA Eagles! Ohio State? Who likes red and silver together? And could the numbers possibly be any bigger?! There's still some shirt showing.
Wasn't there a team that looked just like Michigan's last week. Notre Dame, might as well have put Army in there. What happened to ASU Sun Devils, great uniforms. Better than Yale, Wofford, Georgia, and Texas. Boise States are better than Notre Dame's.
Texas #1? Burnt Orange is just plain dull. USC is a great team but they are on the wrong list, that is one ugly uniform! You missed Nebraska, cool Red and White can't be beat!
How can Michigan be on the Best list and Delaware be on the Worst? They are the same uniforms.
Penn State deserves to be at the top of the list...and I'm not even a PSU fan. How do make this list and not put the Nittany Lions on it. Nothing is as classic as JoePa and his blue and whites.
Someone needs to open your eyes. Who rates these uniforms? No way with Norte Dame and Wofford. GA, USC and Michigan are OK.
Bring on West Virginia, Tennessee and North Carloina. Great uniforms. If you think Norte Dame is good, you must place Penn St,Army and Navy. UCLA and Colorado should be on there. Texas at #1 is a joke and notre dame uni's are ordinary. Overall the list sucks. Not much thought into it. You put this cool topic to shame.
I'm biased (Texas is my alma mater) but their uniforms are great. I think Michigan's are even better. (How does Michigan make the ten best while Delaware makes the ten worst? They're basically identical.) Yale is an excellent call. Alabama over Ga. Southern, definitely. Also I agree the U of Chicago should be on there (the original Monsters of the Midway). Put them on instead of Georgia.
No Penn State? I'd have to split between them and Michigan for best uniform
Given the way BYU finally stood up to Nike to resurrect an updated version of their 70's, 80's, and 90's look, they should be on this list. BYU is the former poster...er....whipping child for Nike when they had those horrible bibs in '99. True Cougar fans are still stinging from the Nike assault and we love our classic uni's like Classic Coke ...er..Caffeine Free Coke.
Two of the greatest uniforms were left off the list. Penn State and Alabama. Penn State has a simple uniform with no flash. Alabama is tradition rich football school with probably one of the more recognizable uniforms as well. Texas #1? I don't get it. Every year it seems the media loves to love Texas, whether it be in the rankings or in this case uniforms. Texas wins alot a games, but not many championships. One national title and one Big 12 Championship this decade hardly worth all the praise.
Michigan and Delaware wear the same uniform. How is one on the worst list and one on the best list?
Kentucky's all-blue unis with the metallic blue helmets look slick.
I see no difference from the bottom 10 to the top 10!!
Don't hate on Ohio State! Go Bucks!! I didn't think they would make either list.
How could Iowa's unis not be on the list? Black and gold, with the Tiger Hawk gracing the helmets?? It is a thing of beauty.
How can you leave out the all white Penn State uniforms? Wow those are amazing. A case can also be made for Tennessee, that orange is great
Texas at number 1? Lame. Lame as hell. This list seemed to focus on any team that has been overrated in the last five years, or any team that takes the classical approach. That said, I agree with everybody clamoring for Tennessee, in that it is rather unique and recognizeable, but ugly--far ugler than Texas burnt orange. But, by that same logic, where is LSU? They are the only good team I can think of that have purple and gold, and they wear it so well. Ill go out on a limb and say the Bayou Bengals' uniforms are the easiest to recognize in split-second highlight-reel glance, and that alone puts them in my top 10. All in all, you'd be hard pressed to pick between your lists of best and worst uniforms if you didn't know which was which.
Any list without Florida State's uniform on it can be easily dismissed as terrible. There are not 4 peopl in the world who would name Yale's uniforms before the Noles.
Michigan has the most distinctive uniform in any sport. The simplicity along with the flash of pizzaz on the helmet is what sets them apart.
Utah has one of the worst and Georgia has one of the best??? It is sixes on your list, and completely a matter of opinion. Whomever compiled the best and worst list is no fashion expert, that's for sure.
I have no idea how you don't have Penn State and Alabama on that list. They are two of the most storied schools in the history of college football, but they are ranked behind Yale, Georgia, Wofford, etc.!!! This needs to be corrected immediately.
Texas does deserve it hands down. But as a Longhorn fan I would like to see black and burnt orange as a home uniform.Know that would be the best looking uniform in the nation.
Texas A&M uniforms are ugly as a hairless dog. You left out WVU! The Mountaineers' have much nicer uniforms than many in your list
Michigan is the best hands down. I would also put Penn State in there even though I hate the team and UCLA home jersey is pretty good too.
It's funny how Michigan is in the top 10 and Delaware is in the bottom 10, when they essentially have the same uniform.
Just goes to show how arbitrary this ranking system is. First of all OSU uniform is butt Ugly, and when they put those white stickers on the helmet, it looks as if a flock of birds have flown over and took dumps! Ga. Southern over BAMA, Please! I like Texas, but as number 2 or 3. Michigan unis are the best. USC is UGly. You cant make red and yellow look good. UCLA should have been on the list. FSU should have been in the top 3. Tennesee should have been in the top 10. Miami should be included just for the helmet alone! ANd on one other note, I believe that UGA had the oval "G" before the packers did.
You know they had to put some lame decisions on this so people would get all bothered? Wofford? Yale? GA Southern? Please you know those are plants just to get people fired up. The top ten are as follows and does not reflect any conference bias. Just the best looking and most tradition. I am leaving out any the copied or rent NFL designs (UGA, Louisville, Colorado State)
1) Notre Dame 2) Penn State 3) Bama 4) Tennessee 5) Michigan 6) USC 7) LSU 8) Nebraska 9) Texas 10)UCLA These schools all have good looks that have tradition. Ohio State was excluded because i think the the sticker symbol embodies playing for ones self and football is the ultimate team sport. My favorites, 1. Michigan 2.Texas 3.FSU 4.Penn St. 5.Colorado 6.UCLA 7.Notre Dame 8.Miami(HELMET ONLY) 9.BAMA 10. UGA
Texas? That's the color of my baby's poop - you can't be serious!
Michigan - good color scheme but need a better helmet. "you cant beat the winged helmet." - Those are wings? Wolverines have wings? Auburn - would be better without the orange - a bad overused accent color. Yale - is that some fetal Joe Camel on the sleeve? Notre Dame - what happened here? Weren't they on the worst list? The Fightin' Irish are ugly in any color. Wofford - are those hand me downs from Colorado? Ohio State - don't care for the team - but yeah - that's a good looking uniform. Georgia Southern - Seriously? My High School had better uniforms than this (in small-town Colorado). That's a pee-wee football uniform. USC - Someone said red and yellow don't look good together. That doesn't matter because Cardinal and Gold are beautiful. Fight On! I'm surprised they're not further up the list. A good iconic helmet is half of a great uniform. Georgia - washed-out retro red - whatever. Sick of the ND love fest. If they're uni's are on the list, why doesn't Navy or Purdue even get a mention? The differences aren't that significant.
HOOK EM' HORNS!!!!!!!
Some of those uniforms are pretty ugly. Way too many teams go with dull colors or the same ol' boring red colors and I can't believe y'all put Notre Dame on the worst AND the best lists. And, it's ludacris that LSU didn't make the list with their purple jerseys. Y'all suck!!! Geaux Tigers!!!
No problem with Michigan. But, Texas? Have you seen their away uniforms, the uniformly disastrous white on white? Please.
Take a look to Division III and the SJU Johnnies. Simple, classic, and don't forget the winningest coach in college football history. Over 100 guys on the sidelines for home games? Everyone has to have their name on the front of their helmet so you don't get the two #84s mixed up? Awesome.
I think this is a pretty good list...a few surprises. I think Texas has the best uniforms but I never would have thought The Vent would agree with me. By #3 in the photos I was disappointed to not see Texas in there. I think the combination of a great mascot and helmet logo, with a bold and unique color scheme and classic style is what makes them a great college uniform. Sure, in the fashion industry the burnt orange is a little odd, but on the football field they look great and intimidating. It is definitely better than the construction worker or safety cone oranges other schools use. My top 10 picks are Texas, Ohio State, Penn St., Alabama, ND, Michigan, LSU, UCLA, USC and then Georgia.
I know there is a bias against PSU, but come on, their uniforms should be right up there with ND, and UofM.
I agree with Texas as # 1. For the
Aggie that is crying about it..burnt orange it the color of Texas dirt and the great sunsets..I don't know what the reddish purple color you call maroon represents.. cowboys # 1 in pros. Any list without FSU has no credibility.
No Florida State? I agree they may not have the #1 uniform (Penn State or Michigan can fight that out) but they are definitely in the top 10.
If that is your best choices, you guys are missing out on some pretty cool uniforms such as LSU, Florida, Colorado, etc. I thought the list was pretty boring!
Texas well deserves this. But as a longhorn fan, I would like to see UT wear black and burnt orange as much as I like their storm trooper look. That will make them have the "best" looking uniform in the nation.
I don't even think those Texas jerseys are the best Longhorn jerseys. The All-white Texas jerseys are by far better than the burnt orange.
Alright, my high school had the same colors, mascot, logo, etc. as USC and I liked my high school. But come on, those Trojan uniforms are ugly!
Michigan should be #1. And Yale shouldn't make the list.
K-State purple all the way.
http://nationalchamps.net/2006/preview/pics/small/kansasstate_marcus_watts_sm.jpg Simple yet effective. What makes a good uniform?
An inspiring and complex color scheme and a cool helmet design. Let's evaluate your top ten. Subtract any team who has as one of its two colors as white. Goodbye, Georgia Southern, Texas, and Yale. These color schemes are boring. For the same reason, subtract any team with one of its two colors as black. Later, Wofford. Subtract any team with pee-yellow pants. This is a sissy feature. See ya, USC and Michigan. For the same reason, any team with orange has got to go. No more Auburn, and Texas gets a double boot. Subtract any team with a drab helmet scheme. Notre Dame is gone. This leaves Ohio State, who has four colors, (including the Buckeye leaves) and a great helmet design (when you include the Buckeye leaves) and Georgia, with three colors and a cool helmet insignia. I will give USC and Texas credit for good helmet insignias, but the yellow and orange colors blow it. Don't try to tell me Michigan's helmet is cool. How can you call a Princeton knock-off "cool?" Besides, why is Delaware's uniform ugly, but Michigan's is among the best? Keep it consistent. what about BYU? their uniforms are simple, and has the two color scheme like the other schools on the list you guys at SI chose. they've gone back to their traditional uniforms and they've been winning. also, why didn't you consider Navy and cmon, Air Force has the worst uniforms? they represent our country, show them some respect.
The fact that you've said Notre Dame has both one of the best looking and one of the ugliest uniforms calls everything into question since you've embedded a total contradiction. It would make sense if you had "least popular" and "most popular." But you didn't. Something cannot be best and worst at the same time in the same category in an objective sense.
You do seem just to go with classic looks, and one has to wonder why Georgia Southern rather than Alabama (unless crimson is ugly and dark blue is not?). Wofford is rather indistinct. So is your criterion plainness? If so, you forgot Penn State. Texas is not at all attractive - quite the opposite. Some of these I agree with - Southern Cal is classy. I actually would rank Notre Dame here rather than last week (I know - the green jersey was last week - but the green and gold looks good). What about clean and classy looks that don't have to be gaudy to get noticed? Something along the lines of Wake Forest or Boston College or Georgia Tech (not that the ACC has a monopoly on this look)? How do you pick Georgia Southern and Yale, but not Penn State? Nothing more classic that the blue & white.
the top 3 are perfect...the rest im not so sure about(and yuck Ohio State)
missing some good ones like Arizona State, Florida State, Tennessee, Nevada, and UCLA Say what?!? Guys, don't give your day jobs, and the fashion industry is definitely not for you.
Florida State. Garnet and Gold and spear on the helmet. Heads over any of your Top 10. As a Georgia Southern alum, I'm proud my guys are in the list...but admittedly, I'm a bit shocked. While I've always thought the scheme was pretty menacing, I'll be the first to admit that it's a dark-blue copy of what Alabama has had for years and years. I'm not sure it's a top-10 pick, and I've never been crazy about it for that very reason. GSU isn't so menacing these days --- but maybe we'll find our game again.
My other love, South Carolina, is going to look really sharp in their new U.A. threads this season. Probably not very traditional though. I think Georgia is a solid pick. No other team does fire-engine red quite like the 'Dawgs do. What's up with Wofford? I'm not getting that pick all that much. Two SoCon (FCS) teams in the nations top 10 best uniform picks(?)...go figure. Texas is a pretty cool #1 pick. Not a fan of burnt orange, but it works for them. And who can argue with your team LOGO resembling the first letter in the team name? "T"...Texas. They should never even think about changing that helmet. Scott M. All you've done is favor most of the popular football schools. On the other hand, how could Yale look better than BYU, which Yale copied? And Michigan's helmets have had the most ridiculous striping since the game began--random and meaningless. Your "worst" list just took several shots at the MWC. Is there any criteria for making these judgements, other than which schools get the most TV time?
Not only is the Texas burnt orange best on the list, but their white jerseys, which they wore dismantling Michigan and USC, look even better that that!
Penn State is missing, the uniforms are simple yet recognizable.
Penn State, by far, has the classiest uni's out there. Home or Away. Is there anything more beautiful than the all white uni covered in mud and blood?! I'll answer that for you, NO!
Also, and I'm going to take some heat on this, UNC's uni's are nice too...somehow that baby blue color with the white works! My ten cents.
Scott M. This list sucked. There were maybe three uniforms on it that were decent. Wofford? Yale? Get out.
How can you rank that diarrhea looking Texas uniform over the Maize and Blue Wolverines? That's just wrong.....
What about the Colorado Buffaloes? They have the best mascot/uniform in college football!!
I can't believe you chose a turd-orange (i know burnt orange) uniform as your number 1 and left out Penn State - by far the best Uni at any level in any sport
Nothing more classic than the old gold and black of Purdue. Good guys do wear black !
How can you leave Penn State out of the top ten. The ironic thing is that they can be in the top ten with the best and worst uniforms. Their blue/white uniform would fall easily in the best category and their all white uniform should be in the worst category.
What about Penn State?!?!
Blue/White, no names no one bigger than the team Va. Tech!!
(For both lists) How can you leave off the classic look of the IOWA HAWKEYES? World famous tiger-hawk??? The bee-swarm look as the team holds hands coming out of the locker room??? Can't go wrong!
Gotta have Penn State.
Alabama, too. And I'd pick Oklahoma before Texas Texas uniform? Awful. What's so great about Wofford's uniform? Georgia's uniform? Boring.
Where is LSU's uniform?? Michigan still has the greatest uniform due to that helmet. You were right in chosing TEXAS as the No. 1 uniforms. I also like the TEXAS whites they play in .. very classy.
USC looks like McDonald's! TEXAS is the best, the color comes from the color of a football, that is way cool. PENN STATE is #2
Boy, you guy's sure live in the past. My high school football team's jerseys would be picked as one of the best according to you. Is there anyone under 40 and not a traditionalist who helps you decide on these?
Ole Miss should have been uo there along with LSU and Penn St
Are you freaking kidding me? G. Southern, Woffard, Yale? Notre Dame"s uniforms are lame with the numbers on the shoulders, they need to go back to the ND on the shoulders. What about Arizona State with the devil and Pat Tillman tribute on the collar. How about Nebraska, Florida State, Penn State. Georgia is no different from Green Bay or Grambling.
Florida State not on the list come on. Every player looks good in that uni on of the best ever. Also Ohio State and USC are great programs but their unis are ugly.
University of Mississippi
The difference between Michigan and Delaware's is the shade of blue. Makes a world of difference.
West Virginia deserves mention for their helmets alone. They should be tied with Southern Cal as having the two best helmets in college football.
No Penn State???? Are you kidding me? Both sets of their jerseys, home and away, are better than anything on that list. You picked some good plain and simple uni's, but left off the best ones!!
By the way, Brian Bosworth summed up the Texas uniforms - the color of vomit! way off on most of these uniforms.
how bout these 10, not in any order. michigan usc tennessee fsu florida miami lsu cal colorado west virginia Orange is ugly....and no list would be complete without Appalachian State's uniforms.....
Also, kudos on picking Wofford and Ga. Southern....although they don't have the best looking uniforms in their conference (see above) I am thrilled to see Wofford on your list; it is truly a hidden gem among southern schools.
The Texas color is the worst color out there - rust?
Texas?? The only school whose colors match the feces of their mascot. Are you BLIND????
108,000+ don't show up to Beaver Stadium for a fashion show. They come for the football. Penn State's classic blue and white uniforms are what a college football team should look like. I believe they deserve a spot in the top ten.
come on, wofford, ga southern, ND, osu, yale, boooooring...
where is fsu, lsu, miami, florida, cal, Finally a survey that a UT fan can love!
The 2 best uniforms in college football were left off the list: Alabama and Penn State. Those are classics and it's a shame people left them off. By the way, Tennessee should have been on the list for ugliest uniforms, how hideous is that big T on the helmet, not to mention the coach looks like a pumpkin.
How do you leave the noles out of the top 10 they should be at least in the top 5.
You have to include UF's blue and orange in the top 10 ugliest uniforms especially when you add jean shorts. East Carolina Pirates, have had the best uniforms, both home and away.
Lately, they added a little purple in with the blue, which is too bad. USC's uniforms are claustrophobic, because there's no white. Yale's are good, I agree, but the Y is too big. I agree with these comments
top 10 = worst 10 seems like schools were picked at random or by alma mater on SI staff it must really be a slow week in college sports to have such a football discussion in the spring. Anyone heard of the CWS? Wow, you guys left off one of the greatest traditional uniforms ever...and it still remains as classy and mostly unchanged as ever. The Alabama Crimson Tide. There's nothing better looking that those guy's digs, whether you like them as a team or not...
Have to agree with one of the other posters, you definitely missed out on Ole Miss. They are at least the best in the SEC, ahead of both Georgia and Auburn.
is this list just a continuation of the 'worst' uniform list? Sure, the classic look is cool, but after a while it just looks bland....and U.T. number 1? What criteria was used?
Texas #1 with that awful brown/orange/poo color? yech. They have the most hideous uniforms out there.
If you like the crisp styles then no one does it better than bama...their uniform has stood the test of time! Can't believe you omitted UCLA's blue and gold. Closest thing NCAA has to the Bolts color scheme, which is the best ever.
Georgia Southern but not Penn State? Georgia ... nothing special. USC is definitely within the top 5. Ohio State is NOT top 10. Wofford? No idea. I like Yale but they are the same as half the nation ... again where is Penn State? Auburn is boring as is Texas...those horns are ridiculous. How about Alabama? And you cant forget about the U...in Miami! Orange and Green, cant go wrong!
As far as the worst List ... Rhode Island and Wyoming are one and two. Texas is number one? Are you kidding me?????? Texas fans are the only (crazy) people who like this puke orange color. Somehow the media has been biased into thinking Texas is a god. Hmmm, I guess it's because they FINALLY won a championship after 30-something years. You're right, I'm wrong. One win makes you invincible.
Penn State should be on that list. The colors, the team, the coach....all legendary. Nothing more classic in my book. FSU runs a close second.
ND uniforms are overrated--just like the team and the coach. They don't deserve to be on this list anymore than they deserve a bid in a BCS bowl game. FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY!
the best uni's ever! Who the hell is Wofford anyway? Possibly the two worst lists you've ever printed! Total blind sucking up. How are Notre Dame's any better than Navy's? Or Woffords better than Army's or Colorado's? Where is UCLA, possibly the best and most unique. And, BTW - Clemson's are better than all ten of your "best."
What a contradiction that Michigan's is #2 best, but Delaware's IDENTICAL uni is the #5 worst? Could be a little bias there?
Should look more like this
10.West Virginia 9.Alabama 8.Yale/BYU 7.USC 6.Ohio St. 5.Penn St. 4.Ole Miss 3.LSU(Purple) 2.Notre Dame 1.Michigan Honorable Mentions: Minnisota, Tennessee, Hawaii For the 100th time....how can you not have PSU on that list???
I love Texas but I think Michigan has the better uniform. As to the others...
USC... respect them but red and yellow? Georgia Southern why them and not Alabama or Penn state? Wofford looks just like GT (Navy jersey),Purdue, Army and Colorado. I like Notre Dame but ... why them and not Navy? everyone is sleeping on wake forest's black and gold unis, and another one only one other person has mentioned are marylands alternate black jerseys...most intimidating thing i have ever seen was vernon davis wearing the black jersey
To the contrary of your "Ugliest Uniforms"...
I think Oregon has some of the best uniforms. They're innovative and high-tech. They're always on the heels of the best that Nike has to offer and are always working with recruits to make something that THEY like. Last time I checked, it was the players who wore the jerseys, not the fans! Oregon States on the other hand... very ugly. I'm surprised I didn't see those in the "Top Ten". And in reference to a comment about BYU's jerseys...I think those look great too. If you have Yale in the top ten, then BYU should certainly be there! USC players look like fast food employees. Given the number of classes they likely attend, fast food employee is probably appropriate. But you should still replace them with Penn State.
No uniform that is or has orange (or what appears to be burned orange with Texas) in it can be considered best. What guy wears orange except for someone who attends or attended one of those schools?
The Yale uniform is a clean and classy look.
Ok, so when showing the ugliest uniforms Wyoming was placed at number two. There are a couple things wrong with this picture. First, the picture that was used for the Wyoming unifroms is out of date. Those uniforms are not used any longer and have not been for quite a while now. Second, i would like to draw your attention to what school was placed at number 6 for the best college football uniforms and that is Wofford then I would like you to compare it to the current Wyoming uniforms which you can find on the University of Wyoming web page under athletics. Wefford and Wyoming uniforms are almost IDENTICAL. The only difference is, Wyoming's uniforms are SO much more appealing to the eye. To sum this up I have two things to say first, do some research so you get the most up to date information and second the same uniform cannot be the best and the worst.
Texas has a classic look but No. 1? No freaking way. The burnt orange jerseys look like a stain out of control. They make a list of the top 10 with the all-white storm trooper look. Michigan in blue - worthy. Ohio State's look is cool but their own fans about tore the city apart with the new stripe last year. I like the Southern Cal look but maybe its because of the celebs on the sidelines. Georgia? OK but not top 10. Auburn - close, but no. Leaving Penn State and Tennessee off the list is warranted.
This list was pretty much a complete miss. Go back to the drawing board but this looked like it took about the same amount of time to order a Starbucks coffee. Michigan's winged helmet should be on the same list as Deleware's (last week's ugliest) Nod to those who say Penn State should be here. I would say the Hawkeye's are missing too
Georgia didnt copy the Packers, they copied us. And whoever said UGA shouldnt be on this list is dead worng, UGA has the best looking helmets in the country!
Texas's uniforms look like a stain on Matthew McConaughey's underwear. Burnt orange is one of the most unpleasant colors to the human eye. Ugh, it gives me heartburn just thinking about it.
And for the idiot that commented on Ohio State's helmet decals, it's widely known that those are given for team and unit accomplishments more than individual accomplishments. On the History of Ohio State Football DVD, Jim Tressel addresses this issue. Way to have an opinion on something about which you know nothing. Agree with the Penn State argument. People LOVE those things, and at least once per season a football commentator mentions it. Also agree that Georgia should be replaced with Tennessee. Long live the Scarlet and Gray. Go Bucks! Texas, are you serious? What is the deal with texas. Uniform which should be the best, Nebraska.
Really what is the deal with texas, they are the most overrated program right now next to USC. Don't get me wrong, Colt McCoy is a good quaterback, but he didn't even come close to Zac Taylor. he is only as big as he is because he goes to Texas University. what about Oklahoma State their uniforms are sweet the way coach mike gundy designed them they should be number one their orange isnt burnt its real orange!!
1. Michigan
2. USC 3. Penn St. 4. Oklahoma 5. Maryland 6. Iowa 7. BC 8. Texas 9. Nebraska 10. Ohio St. texas, your kidding! I've heard just about that program. they are so overrated, just like USC. Mccoy is a good quarterback, but he's only as big as he is because he goes to texas university
Texas has the best uniforms, but look way better in the all white ones.
Alabama and Penn State should be on the list. A school is automatically disqualifed if: 1) it allowed Nike to make the team look like Court Jesters (Miami, Florida, Virginia Tech) 2) Had all black uniforms at some point (Louisville, Cincinatti, Florida State "unconquered") 3) Have those Arena League jersey slashes (California, West Virginia) Georgia on the best list and Utah on the worst list doesn't make sense. Their color schemes are the same - red and white. Given this discrepancy, what do you do with Nebraska, who has a better uniform than Utah or Georgia. You need to lay out your criteria for judging. I think you all just picked your favorite teams.
UM... gee. One helment created the entire image of a school? I guess they win too many national championships to be considered in one of these lists.
The U Wasn't Delaware on the "worst" list? Really, what's the difference between the Delaware and Michigan uniforms?
Personally, I hate that helmet design. How could Florida State be left out? You included Texas' burnt orange, but not Tennessee's, c'mon.
UCLA's unis are the best. comeon now!
Texas and Michigan are definitely #1 and #2. Both can be #1 depending on who you ask. Get rid of Yale, Who-fford, Nawburn and Georgia S. Add LSU, Penn State, FSU and Bama. People should realize color schemes don't matter all that much in football if you wear them well. USC, Texas and LSU are odd schemes but when you look at them on the field they are intimidating. They are great because they are unique and tasteful. The helmet (and logo) is what makes or breaks the uniform and all listed above are the best for their style. I think the list should have been extended to top 20 so not as many great uniforms would have been left off and less people would be so deeply offended to not see their team on this most highly regarded and truly debate-worthy list.
Delaware has the same helmet, but doesnt match the blue of Michigan. If you look at this list and the bottom ten, its obvious to anyone not colorblind. Also, for wearing all white, Texas has no place on this list.
How in world can you leave out The Noles?!?! Whether you like them or not, can anyone here say that they should'nt be in the top 10?
Here's my picks. 1)Michigan (probably the most recognized helmet) 2)Florida State (tribal warriors as football should be) 3)Texas (but not the all white look) 4)USC (classic with a bit of style) 5)Penn State (generically classic) 6)Notre Dame (the golden dome) 7)Colorado (gotta like the buffs) 8)Wyoming (oddly cool looking) 9)North Carolina (they actually pull of powder blue) 10)Grambling State (like Green Bay, but meaner) Besides the top 3 you can arrange them any way you like. You must have realized that FLORIDA STATE's uniforms are so superior to all others that to even include them with this pathetic bunch is blasphemy. Best helmets ever, best colors.
Alright, I went to UNC, and anyone who thinks a color that starts with "baby" or "powder" looks good on a football uniform doesn't know what they're talking about.
You have to be kidding....boring!
Classic maybe...but BORING! I'll bet you still wear penny loafers too. How could you leave out the PSU Uniform. It is a timeless classic and much better than an ugly Ohio State uniform.
The winged helmet of MICHIGAN!!! Hands down, its the most beautiful uniform on this God given earth!
Texas??? please! you people are crazy! as a fan with a completely unbiased opinion I would put Michigan's maize and blue with their winged helmets are far and above the rest of the schools.
That's right...TEXAS BABY! We'll see all you other uglies in the fall (aggies, sooners)!
OK lets start by completely wiping that list off the face of the earth (except Michigan).
Next let's start with Hawaii, Texas Tech, FSU (and it hurts to say that), Iowa, TCU and UCLA. I'm gonna throw in Georgia Tech cause I'm an alum. For the last two I'm going to go with throwback BYU and throwback Florida. that gives a top ten of: Florida Throwbacks BYU Throwbacks Georgia Tech FSU TCU Iowa Hawaii Texas Tech UCLA Michigan That's much better No contest - Notre Dame, Wofford and Yale have the best uni's - a classic look that's timeless. BTW, their football players can actually read and write unlike some of the players from the other schools on the list...
Leaving Penn State off this list is ridiculous. What were you thinking? Without a doubt, the blue and white of PSU deserves to be in the top 3.
Great pick with Ga. Southern. It WAS not an Alabama rip off by no means if you know your Ga. Southern history. Had more to do with Erk Russell starting a program out of nothing. BIG TEAM little me.
Those tsip all white unis are NASTY once the players hit the field. They get some pretty gross looking stains in some inappropriate places after about a half of play. Not that the nasty burnt orange is much better. The logo is pretty cool and classic, but that's about it. I like clean, simple, and classic, like Penn St, Texas A&M, etc.
Great pick with Ga. Southern. It WAS not an Alabama rip off by no means if you know your Ga. Southern history. Had more to do with Erk Russell starting a program out of nothing. BIG TEAM little me.
Southern Methodist University. Very sharp uniforms.
michigan should be number 1 hands down
SC is fine, Notre Dame looks good. Other than that, you're on drugs. Georgia? Are you kidding me? Wofford? I've never even heard of Wofford. Yale? looks ok I guess, but nothing special. If classic looks are your thing, what about Penn State? Finally, the fact that Texas is number one is a joke. Their uniforms look like they were dyed in Orange Crush. Ahh S.I., still the leader in hyperbole and ridiculousness.
Anyone with orange should be omitted as it is the ugliest color of all time. Now, I'm an SEC guy, but Auburn? Really? Auburn? And for all of you Georgia haters, y'all need to get a life. There's no copyright on the letter G. And I'm sorry, but if y'all think that Green and Yellow (it's not gold, it's yellow) looks better than Red and Black, the most complementary colors there are, than y'all are insane. Georgia took a good, simple idea (the Oval G) and made it ten times better than Green Bay did. The Georgia uniform and colors, always simple and clean should be ranked higher than 10. Definately over SC or Ohio State (who are overrated in everything they do, both on the field and what they wear). And teams who keep on changing their uniforms and have multiple uniforms, like the schools in Florida, should never be on this list. Even though the original FSU uniform is great, they sully it by having that ugly black ensemble.
Here's how your list should have looked like: 1) Penn State 2) Alabama 3) Michigan 4) Georgia 5) Brigham Young 6) Southern California 7) North Carolina 8) Nebraska 9) Boston College 10) Stanford I'm an Ohio State fan, so of course i like the fact that the Buckeyes were included in the top ten. However, I'm confused by some of the other schools included, and wondering why some obvious schools were left off the list. Penn State not on the list? Come on, that's a classic uni ! Or how about UCLA, those are some good looking uni's too. As for who was included... Wofford???? Who??? That's just stupid. They had to be included on the list so we would all have something to complain about. With all due respect to Texas...number one???? That one really makes me scratch my head. That burnt Orange leaves something to be desired, although I will give them props on their helmets...simple and classic. The best uniforms are the uniforms what have had little to no change over the years. I hate what Nike has done and given the same uniforms to a bunch of teams, just different color schemes. And what's with every team having those wide stripes going up the side of their pants and continue up the side of their jersey. It's such a tired look and is no longer original. Maybe Oregons uniforms are ugly (and they are), but at least they are original.
Nobody has mentioned the fact that Michigan STOLE their entire uniform from PRINCETON. Look it up! when the coach left Princeton and started the UM football program, he took their helmet logo. It was supposed to look like a tiger running with his ears pinned back. UM SUCKS!
Nobody has said anything about Washington State. Great logo, and very unique.
I'll take FSU's home unis and Colorado's black on black over half of those picks.
This list is complete garbage. ND, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, and USC(I agree with this one though!) is a list of power teams in college, not of what looks best. This is a ridiculous list to try to compile. What's next? Most athletic mascots? Hottest Safeties? I just can't agree on putting teams up there just because they have the most fans and would complain the loudest. PS No love for Washington State? Even I think Crimson and Grey is a great combination, and I went to UW.
Michigan is a classic. The home jerseys have not changed in years and the helmets are the best in football. The aways have changed in the last few years, but still look great. The maize pants are fantastic and they will not change.
Let's see, Auburn at #3 and Alabama is not on the list in terms of the best uniforms. Tradition must not go very far in today's sports world. The others are good, with the exception of Ohio State which was just a glamour pick. Georgia??
I am a HUGE UT fan. (thats tennessee not texas) I am happy that orange and white got number one, and i like that Texas has the bigger holes in the uniform, but seriously, any list of the coolest looking uniforms and it doesn't include Hawaii? I realize this list is all about Old school uniforms and being simple and blah blah blah... But those tribal symbols are awsome.
They should have gone with the all-white Texas uniform. But even that one has that horrid burnt orange on it. Yes, I know, it's supposed to be the color of a sunset, but in all my years in Texas, I've never seen that color in the sky...although there was that one time when I was out east of Houston and looked back at the sunset through all of the funky pollution over the Ship Channel...
Yeah, that GA uniform looks real good with that guy's belly sticking out. Texas??? gimme a break. The logo is cool but the color is uuuuugly.
Vanderbilt has nice uniforms, as long as they don't wear the honeycomb (black pants/gold top) combo.
What about the Ville. Their black out jerseys were classic!!!! Go Cards!!!
West Virginia's New jerseys are amazing...gold top...not sure what the pants are going to be with that though, the reason they are not on here is because they just came out
Wisconsin and Iowa should be on the list
How could you possibly not include LSU as one of the best, if not #1.
Penn State? Louisville? Rutgers? Texas should maybe be #10. I am glad Pa State did not make it. Joe Pops and his bottle cap glasses cannot see how crummy those elementary school uniforms are. Add in West Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland to the top uniform and keep Pa State off.
How about Nebraska? Their uniforms are one of the best looking ones in the nation. They should be in the top 5. Oh, and don't forget Miami, Fl. As much as I hate them, they do have pretty awesome uniforms.
I know radiant isn't the kind of adjective you want to use in the football realm, but there is no other way to describe UCLA's home uniform under the golden California sun in the setting of the beautiful Arroyo Seco on a Saturday afternoon. The shine of the golden helmets and the luster of those powder blue jerseys are a sight to behold. Nothing exemplifies the "California cool" quite like Bruins' home uniforms.
Anyone who says teams like FSU and Louisville should be on the list clearly has no idea what college football is about. One word: Tradition!! FSU and Louisville have none and have horrible jerseys regardless. Yale's unis are great. Hawaii might have the ugliest jerseys I've ever seen. Top 10:
1) 'Bama 2) PSU 3) Notre Dame 4) Michigan 5) Texas (whites) 6) UCLA 7) Tennessee 8) LSU 9) Yale 10)USC 1. Michigan
2. Penn State 3. Tennessee 4. Oklahoma 5. Miami 6. UCLA 7. Georgia Tech 8. Nebraska 9. Alabama 10. Missouri That is the list right there!!!! How can you exclude UCLA's classic home uniforms? When they take the field at the Rose Bowl with their helmet's glistening in the California sun, it is spectacular. I also like Hawaii's home unies, with their metallic green helmets, black jersey's and pants with the Tongan strip around one leg. Worst? Clemson had some combination last year with Orange helmets and purple pants that was hard to look at.
Boring...another 1970's throwback list. Yale? C'mon stop the tradition and get with what looks good.
1. North Carolina 2. University Washington 3. Florida State 4. Kansas St. 5. Hawaii 6. Missouri 7. California (blues) 8. Miami (1990s) 9. Washington St. 10. LSU Penn State...love em or hate em; I hate. As a Texas fan I have to say that anyone who disagrees with this list wants the terrorists to win. Although, I do have to agree that Penn State being left off is a travesty. Alabama too. Nebraska.
What about Missouri? Those modern uniforms look really great in either the all white or the all black.
Lets be serious already. No Florida State??? The garnet and gold is unlike any other. Even if you don't like their football team, you have to respect the helmets!
Any uniform that has orange in it should be left out. That has to be the ugliest color ever.
USC has the best college uniforms for one reason. When you look at the best college football team uniforms, all of the ones on the list deserve to be up there, but the reason USC's are the best is because they don't have anyones last names on the back. It promotes playing as a team instead of playing as an indidual, and truly represents the history and tradition of not only USC, but football as a whole.
I like Texas as a number 1, and Michigan and USC are classics, but you should have put the orange and blue of Florida, especially the throw back jerseys worn for the Alabama game last season
what the best uniform by far was the black "unconquered" uniforms worn by FSU and this coming from a BC fan
Top educate those not familiar with the Dawgs...from georgiadogs.com
Since the Georgia "G"- though different in design and color- was similar to Green Bay's "G", Coach Dooley thought it best to clear the use of Georgia's new emblem with the NFL team. Athletic Director Joel Eaves called for permission which was granted. However, since its inception in 1961, the Green Bay "G" has been redesigned several times and now looks like Georgia's original 1964 "G." Georgia is proud that the Packers apparently liked the special nuances of the Bulldogs' forward-looking "G." Top 10 right here:
1) LSU (WHITE JERSEY) 2) MICHIGAN (MAIZE JERSEY) 3) PENN STATE (BLUE JERSEY) 4) TEXAS (ALL-WHITE STORMTROOPER) 5) FLORIDA STATE (GARNETT JERSEY/GOLD PANTS) 6) ALABAMA (CRIMSON JERSEY) 7) GEORGIA (RED JERSEY) 8) COLORADO (BLACK JERSEY/BLACK PANTS 9) WEST VIRGINIA (BLUE JERSEY) 10) FRESNO STATE (RED JERSEY) - HAWAII? GOTTA BE KIDDING ME... The guy/guys who are trying to make the argument of Utah being on the worst list and UGA being on the best list need to get their out of the place where the sun don't shine. The reason why UGA is on the best dressed list is we don't wear red pants with our red jerseys! Same color pants with jerseys could quite possibly the ugliest option for a uniform. UGA uses their strongest color, red, in moderation. Only on their home unis, and only on stripes on their silver britches and away uniforms. Simply classy. On another thread, Tennessee has the ugliest uniforms. That bright highlighter, sherbet orange makes me want to vomit.....
Ohio State and Texas should switch spots. Anyone can do two colors (E.g., Michigan and Cal. Or Tennessee and Texas.) Big deal. Contrary to what someone said, OSU's Scarlet and Grey are simply excellent for this purpose. Just classic Old School colors -- distinctive, non-obvious, and pleasing. Whenever one sees Scarlet and Grey, one thinks Ohio State. Distinctive. Another example of distinctive is the Ivy League's Penn (burgundy and blue) -- very Old School and very distictive. Contrast those distinctive examples with, say, blue and white (e.g., Penn State or Yale). Sure, the colors are nice together, but how very common, obvious (e.g., water and sky, sky and snow), and lacking in distinction. Ohio State then adds a dash of black (always in good taste) and white (ditto). The result is simply sublime. OSU should be #1.
Michigan is clearly the best, not Texas, which barely makes my top ten. Bama and PSU are among the top ten shouldn't have been left out.
GREAT to see my school make the list(GEORGIA SOUTHERN) true ole school. The best in the south.
GATA EAGLES!!!!!! The Miami Hurricanes uniform should be at the top of this list. Texas is nothing special and really is no different than a lot of the schools. LSU has a good color scheme...
Criteria??
Everybody is going to have an opinion, so let's get the crieria out ther first. First off no monochromes. All red, all purple or especially all white unis are ugly. No weird numbers. If it takes three tries to read the numbers, because they have serifs, are italicized or are tri-colored, they go into the ugly category. No sissy colors. Gold lame? please, try out for the yell squad. And powder blue? you might as wear pink (yes, ucla & unc - I'm talking to you). Personally, I think that watching a 300 pound lineman in white pants is about as ugly as can be, and that's before they get their unis stained. Perhaps that's why Bama & PSU were left off the top 10 list, but then Texas defies that thought. If I had a list, those teams would be off of it for that very reason. Their helmets and jerseys are great, but are offset by those white pants. No Nike-ization: whether it's the one sleeve look, or the BYU bib, or anything donned by the Oregon Ducks (who with all their uni combos could be the bottom 10 by themselves). I am biased, but I have always loved my Huskers unis, the plain simple design with the classic N on the helmet, can't be beat. With that said, I loved my alma maters uniforms from about 3 years ago. Illinois State had an all white uni, white pants, white jerseys, and white helmets. i thought they looked B.A.
I'm not sure i see much difference between your best and worst list. You love Michigan, but put Delaware's almost identical uniform on the worst list!? How can you not vote for the garnet and black of South Carolina?
Penn State...but get rid of the stripe on the helmet. Just a nice clean loking uniform. It's a football game not a fashion show!
I'm not even from Pennsylvania...I'm an 'SC fan! If you're going with the classic scheme, which seems to be the case here, there are some great uniforms that have been left off: Nebraska, Penn State, and Syracuse. How could one not love the Army uniforms that have been essentially the same since at least the time of Davis and Blanchard, with the two gold stripes framing the single white stripe on the sleeve, and the classic gold helmet with single black stripe? And if you want to go Ivy League, the best are Princeton's old uniforms with the mutiple orange stripes on the sleeve with the simple orange helmet and single black stripe. If Georgia Southern, why not Holy Cross? Underrated uniforms include Washington, LSU, Missouri, Gorgia Tech and Kansas State. And Ohio State is simply the best.
If you had a most boring list, I put Texas on that list!
I’d vote to put Hawaii and the Gators on the top ten list with Hawaii near the top! i love oregon. the diamond plated uni's are creative and unique
"Nobody has mentioned the fact that Michigan STOLE their entire uniform from PRINCETON. Look it up! when the coach left Princeton and started the UM football program, he took their helmet logo. It was supposed to look like a tiger running with his ears pinned back. UM SUCKS!"
What an idiot. It was not tiger ears. It is so the quarterback can see his receiver downfield. Get the story right. Michigan has the best and most recognizable helmet in all of football. The classic winged helmet. By the way, Delaware has an ugly color blue and the numbers are curly, not straight. Delaware's doesn't look like michigans except for the helmet, and the color is wierd anyway. Michigan is number 1 by far. I don't know how you can have Notre Dame but not Navy. Obviously the history is there with Notre Dame but Navy's sparkle absoluteley beats the Irish's matte finish...
Michigan State makes a strong case in my opinion, especially compared with USC but the Gold/Maroon combo is pretty classy. I'm with the Penn State supporters too. Think you guys took a nap on that one... Villanova had a class uniform when they rocked the Silver helmets in the mid 90's...c'est la vie... Yale is bold. Wofford is basic...must be an alumn in the office... Definitely Michigan over Texas. you blew that one too... U of Delaware, by the way, should definitely re-think their Wolverine rip-off helmets...Fighting Blue Hens? There certainly seems to be a whole lotta Georgia Lovin' going on here.
#10 Georgia – boring uniform. Perhaps the ventilation for the stomach fat excites you? #8 Georgia Southern – not a bad uniform, not all that great either. #3 Auburn – This is a nice uniform. I would have rated USC higher, probably #1. I know it has tradition but Notre Dame does not have a great looking uniform. Again more tradition, but what the blah, blah, blah, is the Michigan helmet supposed to be except ugly? Texas does look good. Wofford is boring. Ohio State – traditional, but nice looking. I know they get a lot of flack for their Uniforms, but Oregon has a lot of them and some of them look very good. The metal look shoulder pads look a whole lot better than the Michigan brain protector. I would have put Oregon in their for at least one of their uniforms. I think you missed a winner by leaving Clemson out. Nobody has said much about Army and Navy. (Sorry Air Force) If you like the simplicity of Penn State and the Notre Dame colors, then these service academies deserve to be up there too.
1 Penn St road whites
2 Florida St garnet jersey/goldpant 3 USC dark jersey 4 Texas all whites 5 Ohio St road white / silver pant 6 Tennesee Home Orange 7 Notre Dame Greens 8 Ucla Powder blue gold pant 9 Ole Miss red jersey white pants 10 Hurricanes Regular white jersey bright orange pants Leave Auburn, Yale, Wofford, and Georgia Southern off. Add UCLA, Alabama, Penn State, and Army. Yes, Army. Black and gold, very elegant and classy. You have to love the patch that each player wears, representing one of the Army divisions. They wear Airborne patches, Cavalry patches, and tank division patches. That is something that no other team has, or can ever emulate.
After reviewing all of these blogs, I must agree on some of the suggestions,
Penn State is the classic! Michigan is good LSU is flashy but classy NC has the best contrast with powder blue and white with black trim... The classics rule...how about the throw-back Gator helmets...good ol days! Furman's uniforms look great, but everyone hates on the purple.
No, when you make burnt orange and chicago maroon look good, then you can claim to have the top uniform. Michigan and Notre Dame are so used up and the only reason people watch notre dame is hoping to see them lose.
obviously oregon! has the nicest jerseys by far.... but i dont like the style of there new helmets there pretty ugly but thats ok
Ton of schools with great looking uniforms hard to pick the top ten. But UCLA,PSU,Iowa,Florida throwback,Texas A&M could replace Yale. I'm glad you didn't pick any of these schools with new stripe patterns (Nike) or a school that wears the same color top and bottoms like a high school team, I can't stand that look.
Texas #1? I still remember cheering when James Street connected with Cotton Spreyer and Steve Worster busted up D lines from the wishbone for Coach Royal (that's the 1960s for you newcomers reading this), but come on, folks, get real!
Or maybe I should say -- Go suck up some more, SI. Lived in Texas on and off for a total of 11 years across every decade from 1960 through 2000, and never ONCE saw that color in a Texas sunset or a field. Anyone who has needs to go see their ophthalmalogist or their neurologist, as they've either got vision problems or they've actually been remembering their vacation in Hawaii and associating it with being in Texas (and that's just plain sad). Geez. Speaking of which, I agree with those speaking up for including the wonderful and distinctive U of Hawaii Warriors uni -- now THAT is a sharp looking uniform -- and not BORING like most of the others you listed. And I also agree with the others who note that your Top and Bottom 10 are pretty comparable -- someone at SI is either just stirring the pot or has NO taste when it comes to fashion -- or maybe both. Georgia has the best uniforms... Classic "G" helmet, fire engine red tops, and the silver britches, WOW. Penn State's all white uni's are pretty nasty, and you can't leave out BAMA and War Eagle.
GA Southern bustin' through with the big boys! I love it.. just because were AA doesn't mean we don't deserve recognition for some classic uniforms!!
Again, How do you not have FSU on there?? They have by far the most original uniforms in college football. There is no school that even comes close. Give credit to Bobby for thinking of the spear on the helment.
Can't say I agree with the list. The teams that should be on the list: Penn State (I'm a homer but you gotta love the plain blue and white), Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, Miami (even though I hate 'em, I love the U on the helmet), Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Cal.
To all those that hate on the "simplicity" of Notre Dame's unis . . . How many schools use 24-carat gold paint for their team's helmets? Exactly . . . none. The tradition and lore goes along with those helmets more than any other school (except maybe Ohio State's Buckeye Decals)
Well as one of Wofford's 1200 students, I'll have to give props to them for selecting Wofford.
Texas being #1 is dumb. Their all white uniforms are pretty awesome but other than that, they're nothing special. I will repeat: WHERE IS PENN STATE? One of the most well known, classic unis in college football. I don't see how you can leave them out. Alabama and Tennessee are must on the list. Someone dropped the ball big time. Oklahoma is an almost must as well. You sure did get Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, and Texas right (although placement could be argued). To anyone that says FSU or Miami should be on the list...you're out of your mind! Miami changes their uni's every freaking year...maybe to throw off the police!
Air Force
Nebraska Iowa Penn State UCLA All these bet any others on your list i think the university of south florida's uniforms are pretty good looking.
Check out South Carolina's new uniforms, manufactured by Under Armour. They look similar to the Atlanta Falcons, but with white helmets.
You missed out on HAWAII! Those are some of the sharpest in the NCAA, with one of the coolest helmets.
Other solid uni's: North Carolina Tennessee San Jose State (don't laugh.. .they're tight!) Washington 1. UCLA
2. Nebraska 3. Alabama 4. Penn State 5. Florida State 6. Michigan 7. Penn State 8. Arkansas 9. Southern Cal 10. Washington State How can you not love Clemson's unis? Orange & White playing in front of 86,000 fans wearing the same colors is amazing to see in person. And the tiger paw is just plain classic
Well anyone who took a 3rd grade art class knows orange and blue are complementary colors and therefore are more aesthetically pleasing than most of the other color combinations. SI obviously prefers blue over red, which makes sense since blue is a more masculine color and red is an amped up pink basically.
WDE HAVEN'T YOU SEEN SOUTH CAROLINA'S NEW UNIFORMS!?!?!?!? THEY ARE SO FREAKIN COOL!!! come on now if auburn made the list with their underarmor uniforms, then you have to include south carolina...they are way better than just about every team that you put on your board. Anyways there isn't much to your choices-they all essentially have the same plain uniforms only in different colors.
Ever notice how the all-time great programs (Michigan, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, Notre Dame and Nebraska) don't change their classic look? They are all winners. They look the same today as they did in 1990, 1980, or 1970. Those are the 10 that should have been on the list and the order wouldn't matter. When you play good, you look good.
Texas should absolutely be number 1. The logo on the helmet is simple and classic. The color of the uniforms is consistent with the color of the mascot. Combining these two facts, no other school can claim to their uniforms and helmets are true to their mascot.
Impossible! LSU's purple and gold didn't make the best uniform list? There's five uniforms on this list that are seriously wrong.
"Can you not believe Georgia Southern is the number-on-the-helmet team listed and not Alabama?" --- Ok, first of all, the fact that you asked this tells us all that you knew it was wrong. Secondly, Texas at #1? Burnt orange, really? Come on. Any team with any shade of orange should be automatically ruled out. Eww. And I am by NO MEANS a Notre Dame fan, but just #5? They should be higher. Penn State should be somewhere. Auburn? Again with the orange? USC? No way. This list sucks.
Georgia's not bad, but you could have used someone other than a really large lineman to showcase the uniform
Are you kidding me?....Alabama's uniforms are CLASSIC. They've remained THE uniform in college football throughout the years. This top ten list is BOGUS at best.
Burnt Orange should've been on the top 10 worst uniforms, yet you put it at #1? Guess you like gagging when watching football.
How can you NOT put TCU on here?
The purple jerseys have HORNS on them. I mean that puts the bland Ohio State's colors to rest... Bold Navy Blue with Burnt Orange(Not Traffic Cone Orange)and White trim topped with a clean traditional white helmet definately looks good on a college football player. Without a doubt the best road whites. War Eagle!
If you want to walk the mall with your pants strapped below your ass and your hat cocked to the side then a Miami or SC Jersey is for you. Ole Miss! Are you kidding me? Did a child pick these color schemes? LSU - Aparcus pee yellow and Barney Purple. Please. They wear white at home. Do you blame them? I can see UF with a few more Football Championships, but NEVER will those combinations be fashionable. UGa? Why not Grambling? Definately UGA made the wrong list. Bud Drinking, Delusional, Self Absorbed , No Class, can't give up the past and NEVER EVER CHEATED individuals - A Dale Earnhart or Bama t-shirt is definately you. University of North Carolina... basketball may be king in Chapel Hill, but the Carolina Blue jerseys in Kenan on a crisp October afternoon is a sight to behold.
Funny how all of these people knock on Texas's burnt orange, yet Texas apparel (to include those awesome jerseys) is usually ranked 1, 2, or 3 in sales every year. How many teams have blue in them? Red? Gold? Burnt orange...only one! Definitely a great list. HOOK'EM!!
For all of you who dont appreciate Texas' uniforms, realize that it is one of the most recognizable colors in all of sports. Whenever people see that color they immediately think of the Longhorns. Hook 'em!
While I can agree with some teams on your list, I don't understand how you left off others like Alabama, Penn St, and Nebraska! I think a more accurate list would be:
1)Michigan 2)Alabama 3)Notre Dame 4)Penn St 5)Nebraska 6)USC 7)FSU 8)Ohio St 9)Texas 10)Miami How about Iowa State, Florida State, University of Washington, Boise State, Oklahoma. They could be on the list. Georgia Southern lame. Wofford never heard of them and the uniform is nothing special. Yale boring.
Hmmm. Let's see. Auburn #3 and bama (uat) not even on the list? Must have something to do with Auburn beating that tradition out of the tahd.
Penn State should have been on the list. Tradition and class. You're right and wrong with Texas as #1. The best college uniforms are Texas's all-whites, especially indoors when they wear white underarmour-type gear. They look like a bunch of gosts on the field. It doesn't get any better than that.
Michigan has the ugliest helmets in all of football I bet whoever pit them on the list dresses funny
Tennessee fans....your T is expected and, buckle up, dull. And your orange is too feminine & sweet...not tough.
That's why the Horns took the title with burnt orange and the white helmet with no stripe. Thanks SI. Classics jerseys missed: Bama (Bear Bryant knew style) Penn State (Oregon needs to learn from the Lions) LSU (this jersey screams sugar bowl & speed!) Florida Gators (script on the helmet...c'mon...sweet ) Iowa (black and yellow - that is football). Finally, Louisiville fans....you copied AZ Cards, so can your cries of ommission. Originality goes a long way to glory. Texas
UCLA Michigan Notre Dame Colorado Penn State LSU Georgia Iowa USC These 10 look pretty good to me. UNC, Florida St., and Oklahoma are good too. I'm sorry, but nobody beats Michigan. Even people who don't follow sports at all know that they have the best uniform of any team in America. Maybe you're trying to be a contrarian (which I respect enough), but in this case, it's a no-brainer.
This wide variety of comments goes to show just how completely subjective such a list is. Ask a 1000 different people and you will get 1000 different lists. But this is the one that makes most sense...
1.USC 2.MICHIGAN 2.NOTRE DAME 4.UCLA 5.TEXAS 6.GA TECH 7.OKLAHOMA 8.FSU 9.COLORADO 10.STANFORD/LSU I've noticed a few people suggesting that the U of Chicago uniforms should be in the top 10. I went to Chicago, and if my memory is right, we ended D1 football about 60 years ago. Thanks for the props, but I don't think we qualify for this vote. I'll pick another maroon school...Texas A&M.
As a huge Auburn fan, all you dipsticks that automatically cut Orange are full of it! The Auburn uniform focuses on a deep navy blue and uses orange and white as really great accents!
The Alabama so-called "classic" is boring, boring, boring. The Syracuse uniform listed among the 10 WORST looks quite a bit like the uniform worn by Jim Brown and Ernie Davis. Myself, I put it on the 10 BEST list.
Where is Minnesota?
The Maroon Jerseys with Gold Trim, Nice Look The REAL Top 10:
1. UCLA (Blue) 2. Alabama (Crimson) 3. Penn State (Blue) 4. Michigan (Blue) 5. LSU (Purple) 6. USC (Cardinal) 7. Notre Dame (Blue) 8. Wake Forest (Black/Gold pants) 9. Florida State (Garnet) 10.Colorado I like the fact that Tenn. has a simple classy design, but that orange is just...jesus, ugly as sin. It is a color found nowhere else in nature. Here is the real top ten:
1.UCLA- hands down 2.Michigan 3.California 4.USC 5.Florida State-especially the blacks they boasted last year 6.Minnesota 7.Penn State 8.Texas-only home, away---UGLY 9.Maryland-gotta love the Under-Armor 10.Wake Forest--why not? Gotta love the classics:
Penn State (in blue) Alabama Nebraska Props to: Florida State (in Garnet) Tennessee (in Orange) LSU Michigan (Even though I'm a Buckeye, I can't hate on the unis they're pretty sweet in blue) What about Cal's blue and gold?
Granted when they go plain gold they belong on the worst list, but their normal unifroms are sick. Michigan #1, Penn State #2, Alabama #3. Texas #42.
Michigan#1. Penn State #2. Alabama #3..... Texas #42.
Everyone talks about classic uniforms oklahoma has had the same one for like fifty years and it still looks good
"I agree with Texas as # 1. Forthe
Aggie that is crying about it..burnt orange it the color of Texas dirt and the great sunsets..I don't know what the reddish purple color you call maroon represents.. cowboys # 1 in pros." Obviously old man, rwhiskey to coke ratio is slightly tilted...Texas dirt? sunsets?..waaayy too deep for an old codger. I think the stains on your burnt orange jersey's were maroon with all the hits you guy's took on Thanksgiving Listen i know that they have had a tough year, but virginia Tech need to be on the ugliest uniforms list. their uniforms are horrible
Colorado should be in the best uniform list.
Gotta go with the garnet and black of the South Carolina Gamecocks!
How can you overlook the best logo in the NCAA? The Washington State away unis are the coolest, meanest duds anybody wears on the road. On the other hand, the home helmets are as hot as driftwood, and about the same color...
Actually the Michigan/Princeton football helmet was not designed to look like a Tiger "with it's ear pinned back" (a reporter's comment). Fritz Crisler designed it by painting the different pieces of leather on the old helmets a different color so his quarterbacks could see their receivers better downfield. Princeton used the helmet for less than three seasons before Crisler took it to Michigan and painted it maize and blue where it was made famous. Any unbiased observer would agree that Michigan's helmets are the most distinctive in football - period.
I can think of 4 uniforms that should be there instead of Wollford, G.S, Yale, and Texas.
Penn State West Virginia Alabama Hawaii The REAL Top 10 best (not in order)
Miami "The U" Boise State Florida Alabama Wisconsin Oregon (so many of them to choose) West Virginia Rutgers USC Tennessee Get the other list and throw it in the trash! James-Delaware This isn't a fashion contest. Uniforms are meant to readily identify the team. And no team - certainly not Penn State whose uniform looks more like those we wore in pee wee football 40 years ago - is more readily identifiable by their uniform than UGA with their distinctive red jersey and big black G on their helmet (which pre-dates that pro team by the way). Got to admit, however, LSU runs a close second - great colors and readily identifies the university.
Good choice in Texas. They are far and away the best uniforms. I do also like Boise State though. Solid list throughout.
Wake Forest has the best looking uniforms, bar none.
Good call on Wofford. Definitely one of the best looking uniforms in the country. Not so sure about Georgia Southern though.
I think Illinois should have been on the list. The Navy Blue with Orange is a really sweet color scheme. I do not think Michigan should be on the list ONLY because you put deleware on the ugliest uniform list. The difference is that michigan has a more modern uniform and delewares numbers are curved, not blocked. Very biased in my opinion
Pretty good list and can't really disagree with the inclusion of Wofford, Ga Southern but UCLA should be included. By far Georgia has the most vivid uniforms that present a sharp image.
1.Florida
2.Texas 3.Michigan State 4.Florida State 5.North Carolina 6.Georgia 7.Washington 8.Michigan 9.Penn State 10.USC Being from Florida, I would have to say the one team that should be on the list is Iowa. Having seen them play a few Florida bowl games in recent years has caught my attention. Black & Gold with the tiger hawk on the helmet.
Terrible list, just like the ugliest uniforms. Wofford over Navy? GA Southern over Alabama? GA Southern is classic styling but awful colors. 2 golden domes with not too different uni's is just bad form. The big schools I agree with by and large, but I would take Iowa, Texas A&M, Purdue, Washington, Delaware from the worst list, Wisconsin, Villanova than any of the 1-AA you have up there.
Thank you to everyone for finally giving Iowa State what they deserve. Ugh, yellow on white?
How many people outside of UT fans wear burnt orange? No one. And I don't know where any dirt in Texas is burnt orange. You have red clay, but so does Oklahoma. Have you ever traveled in Texas? Only the pan handle and the north central have red clay and I wouldn't call that burnt orange. Their may be one isolated spot in the state that has burnt orange dirt, I just haven't seen it, yet. And I would say I have covered a large majority of the state, and I haven't seen burnt orange dirt. I would put Texas their because it is a classic uniform that hasn't changed in years. Not because it is the color of dirt, which it isn't, and not because it is aestetically pleasing, because it isn't. And I don't know if it would be number one in my list either. Most likely the top 10, but probably not number one. Most people I have heard talk about the uniforms comment on how ugly they are. I think classic uniforms are the best, but definately not always the best looking.
"Michigan's Uniform is the best one by far......you cant beat the winged helmet."
It's just a shame Mecheatagain stole the design from Delaware. Not only does Tennessee have the best uniforms, but they have the best atmosphere in college as well. You wouldn't know unless you have been there when that team runs through the "T".
Colorado should probably be on that list too. Texas has the #1 uniforms all right. You just put them at number 1 on the wrong list. I wouldn't cover road kill with those things. There's a reason that's the color of prison clothing.
Penn State should definitely be on the "Best" list. The unis represent the tough and no-nonsense spirit of football. Which is also why the UCLA and LSU uniforms don't belong on the list. UCLA has the #1 uniform...for women's softball. They make the men's football team look like smurfs. As far as LSU's uniforms, their players look like a bunch of hookers on vacation. I have to agree with the general consensus that Florida State and Penn State should certainly be in the top 10. FSU's garnet jerseys with gold pants always look sharp and their helmets are right up there with Michigan as the best looking anywhere. And Penn State's uniforms have a simple, classic style. They haven't made any alterations to the uniforms in decades and they still look sharp.
Hey what happened to the Purple & Gold uniforms for LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY(LSU) Bayou Bengals. How the hell is Texas number 1 and Notre Dame up there?
Southern Methodist University. The Mustangs! Come on! The Ford Mustang logo was taken from SMU. It's classic.
I am a long time Rutgers fan and alum, therefore I hate Penn State out of principle, but to not have their uniforms on this list is a travesty. Nothing is more classic than the Blue and white of PSU. I am also not a fan of Florida State but they have excellent unis.
I'm sorry, but the Michigan helmet is horrible. It looks like the front of a crown and a couple strips of masking tape. UGLY! I love the Rutgers uniforms now, but they have changed so often over the past 15 years that they can't make the list simply due to consistency. Maybe in 10 more years or so I'll have a legit argument. The biggest mistake I see here is that there is no explanations for why teams made either list and why they are ranked where they are. Some teams make sense, while others make no sense whatsoever.
What makes Texas no. 1? If it's the simplicity, then why isn't Penn St., Nebraska, Oklahoma, and on and on, even on the list? At least Michigan has something distinctive, but many of these just seem like they were picked at random and many on the best list look no better than those on the worst list. Everyone should check out the division III school in Wisconsin, Ripon College! Their uniform beats all Division 1 schools. Intense colors and a great helmet. GO HAWKS!
BYU has nearly the same uni as Yale, except for much newer and more slick looking. So, if that Y is on there, the REAL Y better be there too.
Ok, I can accept your classic partiality towards Notre Dame. I can even stomach the 500 pound Georgia lineman with 300 pounds of flab. But a burnt orange uniform that looks like Bevo poop from Texas?? That choice makes Oregon look like a "Paris" original. YUCK!
Scott Whitehill How on GOD's green earth can you leave his team and colors off of your list. The University of North Carolina, Tar Heels, the color that every baby boy is wrapped in at birth and then changed by their evil parents. Please, Carolina Blue is the ulitmate!!!!!
I personally like the classics, but color has to be taken into account also. Some colors just don't belong on a footbal uniform: Orange, Purple, Baby or "Powder" Blue. Yellow is questionable and should only be used as an accent color. That being said, Here's my list:
1. Oklahoma - Traditional look with understated yet powerful helmet logo. 2. Penn State - Great Classic look. 3. Alabama 4. Notre Dame 5. Wisconsin - Updated look without going overboard. 6. Nebraska 7. Iowa - They break the color rule with yellow, but it works for them. 8. Florida State 9. Ohio State - Red and Gray/Silver look great together. 10. Mississippi I think you hit the nail right on the head. The Texas all white uniforms are the best in the country.
Michigan is the best. I don't like em, but the uniforms are the best. You can have Psu and all the other teams that just have one color and no symbol on there helmets. There about exciting too look at as watching paint drying. I though this was about the looks of uniforms and not the history of the team?
Well done! When will Nike realize they shouldn't mess with the classic look? These teams honor tradition, and it shows in their performance on the field.
How in the world is Clemson on your worst list?? The Orange and White is a classic and the Paw alone is the best looking logo in college sports. If you are going to list a couple of southern Conf. schools how can you leave off Furman??? In my opinion a helmet without a logo doesn't deserve to even be mentioned.
agree.
The Longhorn/helmet/uniform and Michigan have to be the most recogizable symbols in college football. Say what you want about burnt orange. Love it or hate it, but no other college in the country (not even the knockoff other orange UT) has a more recognizable color. It doesn't matter where you are, if you see burnt orange, you know it's a Longhorn!
I haven't heard too much for or against Auburn but bein' a Tiger I'm gonna give a big WAR EAGLE to the guys that picked this list. Auburn does have some great uni's and it was great to see them at three. Some other teams I think should make it would be Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida State.
Why would tennesee be on this list, if anything they should've been on last weeks as one of the grossest jerseys. It's highlighter orange. GROSS
I have always thought Michigan's uniforms were hideous, but their uniqueness warrants consideration. Ole Miss' has the best looking uniforms: #1 with the navy jerseys, #2 with the red ones. (I admit my bias Go Rebels!) Also, any uniforms with orange or purple in them must be automatically disqualified.
Boola Boola! Gotta love Yale. But even as a Yalie, I have to admit that Michigan's uniforms are tops. The Texas uniform is just plain attrocious. Wow, a uniform the color of dirt! If you were going to go plain, you should have chosen Penn State over Ga Southern. If you were going to go gold, Ga Tech's are nicer than Wofford's.
Texas Burnt Orange Uniforms shouldn't be number 1! But, the Texas All_White Uniform should!! You can't argue that when you see those crisp clean all white Uniforms with the burnt orange on them they stand out like crazy. These are the best looking Uniforms in the game!
I was just browsing and saw the pics of the best and worst uniforms. And to think that guys think that women are too concerned about looks and appearances! I couldn't believe how many guys had commented on the color and style of football uniforms. Come on guys, get a life!
As a few others have pointed out, Penn State is a glaring omission here. The "K-Mart special" uniforms have been the same (with the exception of the swoosh which JoePa didn't even want) forever.
Simplicity is always in! Plain and simple, if a name appears on the back of the jersey, it should not be allowed on the "best" list.
The Iowa Hawkeyes MUST be included on that list.
Also agree with Tennessee, Penn State and Alabama. The CU Buffs black and gold didn't make the list? Texas #1? Both Texas and Tennessee need to be on the worst list...The creator of this list must be color blind. Remove Texas and insert CU and Oklahoma. At least those are some colors that are acceptable to wear outside of the confines of the football stadium.
I-AA teams shouldn't be allowed on this list. But as far as unis go typically the simpler the better, adding some individuality is a plus, but too much can ruin a uniform. Texas #1 as a Horn myself I can't argue with that, though I prefer the all whites.
Louisville black jerseys are awesome, I agree. Plus I like that they have certain uniforms that they were in certain situations (Black unis only at night.)
SI should maybe leave this to Uniwatch, they got it all wrong. Regarding Michigan/Princeton. Yes, the coach took the design to Michigan - that's because the coach invented the design!!! He thought the design was useful so of course he adopted it when he moved to another school.
It still looks much better in Maize and Blue then it does in black and orange. So yes, the Michigan helmet design is the best and most recognizable in football. Not a fan of the school, but virtually anyone without bias would say Michigan's is the best. This seems like you're trying to be different. I'd go Michigan, Alabama (ROLL TIDE), Penn St., Notre Dame, USC, Texas.
Anybody who complains about ND or Wofford being on the list because their uniforms are too "plain" has no appreciation for classic college football. They're great simply because of their plainness. Would you rather college football be as sensational as the Arena League? If so, well, this world is in a crappier state than I already thought. I guess I'd better go stock up on Combos and dust-off my old XFL highlight videos.
GA. Southern's uniforms are so plain, how is it ranked over Georgia? Georgia's uniform catches the eye and is easily recognizable. GA. Southern's uniforms look like a high school team's uniforms.
I think GA Southern was chosen in place of Alabama and Penn St because the uniform encompasses both. The GSU uniform has the best of both uniforms. Navy over Crimson, plain pants over stripes and numbers on the helmet as opposed to a blank helmet. You cannot knock the success of GSU. Six National Championships in only 20 years of existence!
Try this list
10. Viginia (V w/ swords, nice color) 9.Rutgers (Working class uni) 8. Florida 7. Floriday State (props on the spear) 6. Hawaii (creative, too bad nobody sees them) 5. Notre Dame/Navy/Boston College/Ohio State (same - Gold or Silver helmet, no logo, Solid Shirts and Pants) 4. Texas (unique color, nothing flashy, solid logo) 3. Penn State (Team concept) 2. Alabama (constantly turning back the clock in everyone's mind to days gone bye) 1. Michigan (nobody else pulls this look off - tacky elegance) I'm a Buckeye fan, and I think #7 is about right for the Scarlet and Gray. How in the world is Penn State not on this list? The BEST unis in college football, hands down. Notre Dame, and USC belong in the top 5 too.
TEXAS FIGHT! go ahead and give us the crystal trophy this year too. The burnt orange jerseys are excellent, and I would put our away uniforms at #2. I think the all white looks sharp and we seem to have much success wearing the away jerseys. Ask Michigan, Iowa, OU, and oh yeah...USC!
Could have made my list....Florida St, Penn St, Alabama, Arizona, Grambling Several people on here have knocked UGA for copying Green Bay. While the original G started in Green Bay, the current design of the G logo originated at UGA, and Green Bay copied it. Just want to get facts straight for the UGA-haters.
WVU definitely should be in the top five, with both its blue and white uniforms.
The Nittany Lions uniforms embody all that is important in college football: hard work, dedication and team over all mentality. The all white uni's are so crisp they belong on a runway. Don't worry though, the nation will get a good view of these instant classics when the Lions take the Big Ten by storm en route to the BCS championship game. All I can say is look out...reminiscient of '94.
Michigan is the best.
I think Colorado should have made the list, maybe not at the top. That's a cool look. And there is a difference between classic (Notre Dame) and boring (Nebraska). HOW COULD YOU LEAVE OUT PENN STATE!? I DON'T EVEN LIKE PENN STATE BUT YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THEIR UNIFORMS ARE ABOUT AS GOOD AS THEY COME!!
I think you straight out forgot Penn State! Their traveling whites should be at the top of the worst list and their blue and whites at the top of the best list. Folks everywhere like their blue & whites, even here in the deep South.
I agree with the majority of the list, but, I have to question Texas. Really? Texas? There is nothing impressive about their look, it's acutally pretty ugly.
USC? - same colors as Iowa state yet Iowa state was on the ugly list?!? USC's colors are even UGLIER. And how do you have michigan @ 3 on best list but Delaware on the worst?!?! Its the same freaking uniform, helmet and everything!?!? And Texas burnt orange @ 1. This just goes to show the media has no business meddling with college football polls of any kind. Purely biased indeed.
I don't see how Michigan ranks so high, I really don't find their helemts to be that cool of a look. I would have ranked USC and Auburn a little higher. I still think Alabama and Penn State have teh best uniforms around.
tennessee should hava been in the top 10, because we are the most noticed team in the country who wears the color orange, not burnt, not auburn, but orange. the stadium, fans, and the greatest checkerboard in football. as once john ward said it, into the checkerboard touuuuucchhhdoooooown, peyyyyyton mannnnning.
how many high schools in the country have the texas t on their helmets, the tennessee t and orange is a trademark, people know the volunteer orange rather than the burnt texas orange
Ok so I'm an Ohio State fan so this really hurts saying this but Michigan definitely has the best uniforms. Oh and Texas is not even the top 5. Now whether you say it is biased or not, OSU's red uniforms are definitely higher than they are in this article. They are somewhere in the top 5, not one, maybe not two, but somewhere in there.
Why do Nebraska fans hate Texas so much?
We're talking uniforms not helmets. I'm a Michigan fan but i can appreciate any other nice uniform.
1. "The" Michigan Wolverines 2. usc 3. colorado 4. alabama 5. lsu 6. ohio state 7. penn state 8. florida state 9. auburn 10. miami Now, if we are talking about helmets, then you can include nebraska and texas and maybe oklahoma in the discussion. I agree with Minnesota being on the list - their home maroon/gold combo is a nice mix and the slanted "M" is a sweet and simple logo.
I am a Texas alum, so I do have to agree with it being number 1. I, personally, like our all white uniforms (top and bottom) a whole lot better.
And I agree, Penn State should be on here somewhere. You forgot about University of South Florida... The best school you have never heard of.
A young program that is tearing up the Big East and is fast becomming a serious player in talent rich Florida. 1. Michigan
2. Texas 3. Notre Dame 4. Penn State 5. Alabama 6. Florida State 7. Ohio State 8. Minnesota 9. UCLA 10.Nebraska I can't argue with the big schools, but Wofford, Yale & Georgia Southern? Maybe it should be limited to schools with "football tradition". You definitely left Florida State, Florida & Penn State off the list. Must have been a mistake. Georgia Tech has a pretty sweet uni also.
Georgia definitely belongs in the Top 10, but a better photo could have been found. Helmet logos define a college team's uniforms more than anything else, and for that reason --- as much as I hate anything orange --- the best helmet designs (Georgia included) belong to Auburn, Texas, Washington State (the world's coolest logo making a cougar out of WSU --- did someone change that this year?), FSU, Georgia Tech, and West Virginia. I'd like to include others like Arizona State and Wyoming (to name a few), but their logos are busy and small on the helmets rendering them almost unrecognizable from a distance. Best uniforms belong to Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, and Hawaii.
10 Best
1. USC 2. Nebraska 3. Penn State 4. Michigan 5. Alabama 6. Notre Dame 7. LSU 8. Florida State 9. Iowa 10. UCLA i've read the majority of the posted suggestions as the best unis in college football. i'll attempt to create a 'best of the rest'; those school whom i feel have pretty neat unis:
wake forest (home) virginia (home) LSU (home) ga tech (road whites) pitt We have sunk to a new low. A bunch of guys sitting around discussing the latest football fashion. Since I have time to kill until fall here's my list:
1. Georgia 2. USC 3. Penn 4. Notre Dame 5. FSU 6. OSU 7. Michigan 8. Texas 9. Tennessee 10.Alabama /Auburn GEORGIA, yes!!!
Texas #1? I think I puked that color when I was in college.
Another vote for Penn State to be on the list. Geaux Tigers!!! Purple and Gold are God's colors.
FSU not on the list? I bet a look at sales of clothing/merchandise would show people like their uniforms.
Where is Penn State? Their uniforms are simple and classy.
Penn States needs to be in the top 10 list for sure, those are awesome unis
GO TEXAS!!!! Obviously Texas is just the best school for everything. Academics, Sports, Fun, City, People, Uniforms....don't be jealous if you couldn't get in and had to go to A&M or UH.....
What makes Georgia Southern's uniforms so great is the simplicity. When we first started our football team, we had almost no money. The money we did have was used to build a stadium. Our first uniforms were actually Statesboro High School's uniforms. We had used jerseys and helmets. The helmets were just plain navy blue with numbers on the side. Thankfully, we had Erk Russell and his great ability to make lemonade out of lemons. Before our first home game, he threw one of our boys a roll of athletic tape and said: "Here, put some down the middle. We are gonna look classy today."
Another Erk quote: "In the interest of economy, we had plain white pants, we had plain navy-blue shirts, a number on the front and a number on the back. We couldn't even put a stripe down the middle of our helmets. We used a strip of tape. ... Those kind of things screamed, 'Team'." - Erk 6 National Championships in 25 years later, we consider our uniforms to be a reminder of our humble beginnings and championship tradition. SO hard to do these kind of things because there are so many schools, and agreement will fall along alma mater lines.
that said, Texas DOES have the coolest looking uniforms, especially their white Great choice. Texas has by far the best looking uniforms. Their helmets are so awesome!
What the??!! No uniform love for Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Tennessee, or UCLA? And if you had to pick an Ivy League school, why not Harvard, Penn, or Yale? Sorry gents but you fashion show wannabes definitely blew this story!
If you're going off of appearance, tradition, etc., then Nebraska definately should be in the top 10 somewhere. The uniform isn't flashy, but has stayed relatively consistent throughout the years - just like the state's devotion for the team. For a small, non-touristy state, the Huskers' 'N' is definately recognized across the nation and the look is classic.
Notre Dame? Are you serious? there is a difference between classic (Notre Dame) and boring (Nebraska). I'm not going to deliberate over the order of the top ten; i mostly agree with it, however, you need to replace Wofford and Georgia Southern with Penn State and Alabama. Hello?!?! As for Oregon's new uniforms, they're actually still kinda ugly -- or nothing special, anyway -- but the mere fact that there are no "highlighter-inspired" colors on the uniform is a step forward...
I agree that Michigan and Southern Cal should have been on last week's ugly list (are they on the best list because they sell well??). And that Penn State should be added if they put a logo on their helmet. I like Northwestern Wildcats design with the combo of purple and black.
I like the list except for Texas, yuk...orange? ND is classic but I do like the letters on the sleeves instead of the numbers...and yeah, where IS Navy?
The readers have spoken...Penn State deserves a spot somewhere on that list. Texas is a joke at number 1.
The best uniforms in college football are worn by the Tennessee Volunteers. Second, third, etc. are the other teams that cop UT's classic style (Wisconsin, for example).
How could Delaware be ranked in the top 10 worst while Michigan is in the top 10 best? Its the same uniform!
man...i love it when notre dame pulls out the green and gold...its a classic
Florida State's uniforms are the best, any list though where they are not even mentioned and Auburn is, is ridiculous
Even though I'm a Big 10 guy, what's the big deal w/ Michigan? Can't you all see that they just copied Delaware's unis ? --- with that ugly winged helmet. Anyways, here's how it should be: (And no, I didn't pick OSU because they're the best sports program in the country, I just like the scarlet and grey combo.)
1. Ohio State (red) 2. Washington 3. Florida 4. Stanford 5. Florida State 6. UCLA (blue) 7. Virginia Tech 8. LSU 9. USC (maroon) 10. UTEP others receiving votes: (11) Penn State (white) (12) Kentucy (blue) (13) Syracuse (14) Arizona State (15) San Jose State (blue) 10 worst: 1. South Carolina (helmet decal) 2. Arkansas (see S. Caro.) 3. Tennessee (too much orange) 4. Wisconsin (sick of the red/white) 5. Michigan (anti-winged helmet) ~T. Kelly (Pittsburgh, PA) Did you really include GA Southern and Wofford AND leave off the best uniforms in all of sports--Penn State!
What a joke! Hands down, UNC has the best uniforms anywhere, with their Carolina Blue.
I am glad someone recognizes Georgia Southern's simple yet just right looking uniforms but top 10 is pushing it a little. If you were selecting on same idea as GSU and Wofford, then Nebraska should be in the same disussion.
"Texas" #1 , yea if you take the bull by the horns, drag it along the ground on Texas clay and pronouce it as your uniform. Why does no one seem to think the Gators (blue jersey/white paints have to be recognized in the top 10 either. Also another sim The list should read: 1. Ohio State (Red/Silver) 2. Southern Cal (Garnett/Gold) 3. Michigan (Blue/Gold) 4. Florida (Blue/white) 5. Penn State (Blue/White) 6. Georgia (Red/White) 7. Notre Dame (Black/Gold)tradition driven of course 8. Navy (Blue/Gold) 9. Colorado (Black/Gold) 10.Georiga Tech (Blue/Gold) Later Haters Donn Where's Arizona? You've got Auburn's red, white, and blue, but I think the uniforms of the Cats in Tucson have a classier look.
Great list. Gotta love the Notre Dame Blue and Gold
Texas Tech anyone?
how could lsu not be on this list, purple or white jerseys, with the classic helmet logo. Wofford belongs on the worst list if any list at all. If not for the annual hype, no way USC would make the list. where's Miami, or even Oklahoma?
how is lsu not on this list? purple or whit jerseys, they have one of the most distinct and intimidating looks in all of college football. No way Wofford, Georgia, or Georgia S. should be on the best list. If not for the annual hype, USC would never make this list. where's miami and oklahoma
Being understated makes a great uniform. Penn State's away uniforms are the greatest in any sport.
Longhorn Orange all the way, baby!
Rather than respond to the obvious lack of style points... I think these are the best uniforms...
1) Florida -(orange and blue)only school known for its orange and bright blue out there.. (well there's boise state but that's only recent). Also Florida has some awesome throwback uni's that were amazing against UKY 2) Michigan (Classy Blue and Gold) 3) Louisville 4) FSU (Garnet and Gold is sharp) 5) Air Force 6) Alabama (Crimson is classy!) 7) Minnesota (Maroon and Gold is very classy) 8) University of Washington 9) LSU 10)UWV Penn State, anyone? Florida State should make the list as well. Wofford and Notre Dame almost identical. Auburn -- ugly unis.
I can't beleve you left out UCLA. Without question they should be in the top 10. So should Penn State and Hawaii. San Diego State also has better uniforms than Yale. I don't see anything special in regards to Ohio State and Georgia. Washington should also be put in the top 10 with their purple and Gold.
First of all, colors do not exclude any team from consideration. It's the application of the colors available that make a good or bad design. Good athletic colors are not limited to red, blue, black. But too much of any color is oppressive. Unless it's white.
Ok, Texas's Burnt Orange is reminiscent of the most common color found on, you guessed it, Longhorns. It's appropriate and unique. It's what you do with your colors that counts. So what makes a "good" uniform. For all the teenagers wanting Arena League Uni's as the best, look up the word "u-n-i-f-o-r-m" in the dictionary. Classic and recognizable goes a long way to making it on the "good" list. The fringe teams, or historically only relevant in the last 20 years teams go for flash rather than class. Any team that changes its look every 4 years can't be mentioned. Texas Tech, Miami (yes, Miami). I'm watching football, not a video game. When I turn on the TV and see two teams on the field, I want to know who they are in two seconds. For instance, consider these teams classic basketball unis versus their uncertain football unis: Kansas, Duke, Kentucky. You can picture their bb unis but not their fb unis. When I see Iowa, I think I'm seeing the Steelers. Is it Iowa St, or the Chiefs? All the other teams with some generic version of red or blue. ehh. My list would include in no particular order: LSU (Old School Classic, road is better) Florida State (good combo and love the spear, home) USC (California not Carolina, home or road) Oklahoma (home or road, classic) Texas (home first, clean and classy, unique) UCLA (nice look, home) Notre Dame (home blues) Nebraska or Arkansas or Stanford if you just have to have red. These teams above are instantly recognized and not confused with anyone else. And they look good. The teams below are also instantly recognized. Penn St. and Alabama, mmmmm just a bit too plain. Michigan, what the heck is your helmet supposed to be? Buckeyes, lose the helmet stickers. Oregon... never mind. College football season can't get here fast enough 1) Penn State
2) Auburn 3) Alabama 4) USC 5) Michigan 6) Texas 7) Ohio State 8) ND 9) Oklahoma 10) UCLA Love FSU unis until they went ultrametallic and included red pants. BYU, for changing to new unis, forever fell off list. Miami used to be great until the green became the prime color. College football is tradition, just like baseball (Yanks, Tigers, Red Sox,...). Modern unis dont work. Props to little schools, but best unis need to be seen in my book. Seems as though the ones judging uniforms as well as the pollsters are in harmony..... Lacking any sort of critical eye they tend to gravitate to the "favorites" and don't have any better sense of fashion than they do for true competetiveness. The list is biased and flawed.
Hello, But what about Boston College? A lot like Notre Dame but certainly better than Yale...
I disagree with your list because LSU has some of the best and cleanest/brightest looking uniforms in the world and you didn't pick them.
The victors at #2...not bad.
Do they deserve to be #1? Hail yes! Anything containing Orange is hard to look at (although some darn good teams sport orange these days). I am also partial to the following (fellow Big 10) unis....OSU, MSU, and Purdue. Most of the responses I see above are biased by team loyalties or rivalry hatred. There are several schools I think are more universally known and either hated or adored, and the Texas logo & color surely ranks close to the top of the heap, if not the pinnacle. Overall good job, SI. You got people talking ... which I'm sure was your goal all along!
My alma mater made the list!!! Georgia Southern. The blue is better than crimson.
Jim was right
Nebraska has a clasic look that has not changed in years. it is clean and simple and clasic GO BIG RED!!!!! There are other schools other than I-A schools. Anyone who thinks that only I-A schools can have a nice uniform are crazy. Georiga Southern Univeristy and Woffard both belong to the same conference that once had most of the teams in the SEC and ACC. That means there is tradition there, which is what uniforms really mean. Speaking of tradition, Georgia Southern has won more Div. I Football National Championships since 1985 (6 in all) than Ohio State, Miami, Florida, USC, and any other BSC team.
You people need to realize that there is more to college football than 6 conferences. Auburn and georgia southern are great. How can you pick Ga Southern and leave out Penn State?
Penn State has the worst uniforms ever. Even worse than Oregon. They are worse than a parochial peewee football uniform.
You missed the best looking uniform in College Football, the Iowa Hawkeyes. Some of the ones you listed are just plain boring.
Writers of the list, please get your eyes checked. No one -- and I mean no one -- looks good in burnt orange. How can it be tops on the list as a good uniform when it's the worst, ugliest color ever?!?
what happened to the UW? Wisconsin's jerseys are pretty good and OSU and USC should b up higher and Georgia Southern, Woffard, and Yale arent that good?
Michigan ahead of Ohio State are you kidding me? No way the uglyest uniforms in college football should crack the top 10.
Texas seems a bit weak but you are right at making Michigan at the top--just the helmets state their case.
I can't imagine everyone lobbying for Penn State. I think they bought them at Wal Mart. I don't consider this credible by any means, how could Penn State not be on this list.
Notre Dame Penn State Alabama Michigan(all though I can't stand them) Oklahoma Texas USC Ohio State Florida State Tennessee Having Georgia Southern's classic clean cut style was a smooth choose because alabama does have the stripes on the pants and GSU does not. Besides I would take GSU's dark blue and white over bamas crimson red and white. plus GA southern is one of the biggest party schools in the nation so theyre so drunk on saturdays, they honestly dont care about the uniforms!!!
Good list overall, but Maize and Blue with a winged helmet, need I say more? Michigan is #1.
I can't believe that you picked Texas over Tennessee. There is nothing that beats the power T on white helments. Plus, Tennessee orange is far more appealing than the burnt orange of Texas.
I agree with most, but, I think ND has one of the most classiest schemes out there. Especially when they come out with the green and gold, and to all the haters out there, just because you may hate the team, it doesn't mean the uni's are ugly, grow up people.. PSU should have been on the list I agree. GO ND!
Love those Wisconsin Badgers traveling uniforms...all white with red trim. Those boys always look huge!
Texas should be on the "worst list"! Good job including some small schools. Georgia Southern is a Southern Football powerhouse for small schools. Wofford is a great, hidden school in South Carolina where their average SAT score is higher than their enrollment, yet they compete at D-I.
How do you leave UCLA and their home uniform off the best list? True Blue and Gold are the best color combination out there. the whole colr scheme of UCLA is the best.
There is no doubt that Penn State has the far and away best looking uniform.
The burnt orange look belongs in a baby's diaper. Arkansas certainly should have been considered in the top ten.The Cardinal red with the white is awesome.Probaly the sooners should have been noted as well.Them and the Razorbacks are similar in style and color.
Most of what was listed was solid colors ans for Texas to be # 1. Be real.Burht Orange is about as dull as it gets.Dull colors reflect the personality of humanity.Bright reflects energy and bubbly personality.I guess this explain those that choose the colors as their top ten.YUCK !!!!!! Based solely on the way the uniforms look...this is the list.
1.Florida 2.Texas 3.Michigan State 4.Florida State 5.North Carolina 6.Georgia 7.Washington 8.Michigan 9.Penn State 10.USC Will all you Bama fans quit yer whining over the Tide not making this totally subjective list?!? For crying out loud, your uniforms are generic and boring! Hutch called and said you guys were making them look cheap!
USC needs to be number 3. That Trojan helmet is as cool as the Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas helmets (and I hate USC.)
Don't understand how a person could write in and say in good conscience that Texas doesn't even belong on the list. Even if you don't like burnt orange, the white helmet with the Longhorn emblem on the side is as good as it gets. 75% of college teams have the school's name or initials on the helmet, so it better be some cool lettering to be considered for this list. That is why OU, Auburn, LSU, or Nebraska don't belong on this list. Uniforms should look good at home and away, so I don't buy any of these lists that mention home or away jerseys. A team has to wear both each season, so both have to be considered. 1. Texas (best helmet emblem in college football) 2. Michigan (hasn't changed for good reason) 3. USC (Just as good as the first two) 4. Notre Dame (Great color combo) 5. Colorado (Hard to beat black and gold with a buffalo.) 6. Penn State (Love it or hate it, it stands out by not standing out) 7. UCLA (Helmet sucks, but that Bruin Blue really looks good.) 8. Ohio State (Don't peronally like them, but can't ignore the Buckeyes.) 9. Florida State (If they keep screwing around with the classic uniforms, they will be off this list. Stop wearing black uniforms, it does not work!) 10. Random SEC team. (I'll let the big southern dummies war over who recieves this honor. I'd say it's between 'Bama and Tennessee.) I'm a Pac-10 guy, but I have to say Penn State is tough to beat. Simple block numbers, minimal striping, no names. Vanilla, yes, but a trip to the grocery store will provide ample proof of it's popularity. And like Vanilla ice cream, Penn State's uniforms looked good 50 years ago, they look good today and they will look good 50 years from now. You know you got it right when you don't have to change your uniforms every few years.
I just think its funny that all the best uniforms are basically the same uniforms that were worn 30 years ago, and all of the worst uniforms are newer in style and "different" than what we're used to. Yes, people hate change, especially in sports.
Just for the record, the Packers were wearing the oval "G" on their helmets at least as early as the 1961 NFL championship game. Georgia did not start wearing the design until the 1964 season.
How do you leave out Penn State??? Simple, traditional, classy, and never changing.n Also, how do you have a Alabama knock off, but not Alabama, and Wofford looks just like Purdue.
the kansas state purple uni's look really good. dont understand texas being no 1.That being said I do kinda like Tennessee and North Carolina Too.The uniqueness of the colors I guess.
Wofford definitely deserved to be on the list, but the photo you chose does not show off the uniform very well. The pants are far sleeker in person than at that odd angle and lighting. I liked most of the choices except Texas. Cincinnati would have been a better choice.
The "Princeton winged helmet" style looks good on both Delaware and Michigan--how about giving credit to the original?
Hawaii has a great unique uniform. Get Texas off this list. The so called best uniforms are plain. The so called worst uniforms are good looking uniforms. Does SI think this is the 70's, No I dont think so this is the 21st century.
I can buy Texas on the list, but #1? No way.
And leaving PSU and 'Bama off is simply sacrilige. Indefensible. As for the "worst" list, how can Delaware be so bad if they're so close to Michigan's unis? And Clemson's unis are terrific. why was tennessee not on the top 10? Oh I forgot, you're all jealous
Put Oklahoma or UCLA on the same field with Michigan, Texas, Georgia, etc...and you'll quickly see for yourself who actually has the best looking uniforms. And even USC fans know their uniforms are hideous.
As a Texas-Ex, I am happy we made the top 10, but I prefer the all-whites over the home orange. The Michigan uniforms are SOOOOOOO overated. I respect Michigan's program and understand the tradition of the uniform, but you can cannot honestly say that Michigan's uniform is attractive. It all comes down to personal taste (and personal bias) in my opinion, but Penn States should not have been left off the list. Also the red and white Nebraska uniforms would be great if not for the overly simplistic "N" on the helmet. Colorado Buffalos also have the best black and gold combo. USC and Georgia's uniforms are so ugly. Glad to see that Tennessee was left off the list. That bright tangerine orange is blinding. My top five in no particular order would be:
Texas (all whites) Penn State (all whites) Notre Dame (navy) Colorado (black jerserys) Ohio State (red jerseys, but without all those ugly buckeye stickers on the helmets) Honorable mention to Florida State and UCLA. notre dame......
classy uniforms. When you see gold helmets (coincidently, the paint used on the helmets has tiny bits of real 14k gold dust from the golden dome in it), you think notre dame, you think of what is arguably history's greatest team. (notice i said history...11 national champs, 7 hiesman, more all-americans than any other school...i realize that the davienham years did screw are reputation a bit). how can you not like the old-school, simple look of ND uni's. No flair, just gold helmets, gold paints, and a simple, elegant jersey. what i don't get is how ND green uni's are on the worst list. In my opinion, kelly green and gold look the best on notre dame (the lime green uni's that willingham and davie used were ugly). the kelly green uni shows tradition and style at the same time. just my opinion...at least ND didnt sell its soul to nike and have them mess up are uni's like they did to counless others (miami, florida, VATech, etc) 1. UCLA
2. Florida State 3. Auburn 4. Penn State 5. Texas A&M 6. Colorado 7. Michigan 8. Washington 9. Oklahoma 10. Navy actually bama is ahaed of auurn
texas by FAR have the best unis. penn state yours are so boring. i know all you aggies are dying right now. and for the guy that said USCs unis looked like mcdonalds i love you and what about hawaii you have to love the checkers.
I'm inclined to believe that the folks choosing the uni's on the list purposely put duds like yale and wofford on just to fan a little controversy. Florida State was a glaring ommission, Va Tech too.
Love the burnt orange!!!
1- Florida State
2- Michigan 3- Georgia 4- Louisville 5- Texas 6- Oklahoma 7- Ohio State 8- Virginia 9- Boise State 10- Miami Everyone knows USC has the best uniforms, they always have.
first off, i am an ohio state fan so i despise anything to do with michigan. but some that i think should be on there are hawaii, va tech(with the stripe), clemson's all purple was cool, and some of the illini's alternate jerseys are pretty cool
Texas ugly orange digs are not better than Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, or Yale. You must be joking!
auburns home uniforms are really sharp, why has no one brought them up
I love the Texas bashing - it's amazing how even an article complimenting something as unremarkable as the color and design of the home uniform brings out the haters. I guess that's the price you pay when you are every opponent's "Game of the Year."
And as for Penn State and Bama - try getting a few more points over .500 for the decade before bringing up all the tradition nonsense. It smacks of desperation. Many teams in the Big Ten have the classic look, Penn State, Iowa, how could you leave those two off your list?
LSU in its non-conference purple jerseys under the lights in baton Rouge. Now, that's C-L-A-S-S-Y!
Top Ten
*HOKIEEES!!! Miami FSU Oregon Michigan Ohio State USC Hawaii LSU South Carolina I just can't vote for Notre Dame. * Yes, I agree Va Tech could also be in the bottom 10. Worst uniforms- Penn State Alabama Nebraska North Carolina (how can you take anyone seriously in sky blue) Anyone that has just a number on their helmet Anything too classic or plain Lots of people say Michigan and Deleware have the same uniform. But guess what. They dont Delaware has a lighter ugly blue and a darker ugly yellow. Also Teaxas at #1 that is way off Texas should be like #9 in the best and Michigan #1. GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!
The 10 best and why (alphabetically):
Georgia: Although the uniforms look better with red home jerseys, the silver pants offer a nice contrast on the road. But, as endearing as the helmet logo---ripped off from the Packers---has become to Dawgs fans, the uniforms were better before the mid-'60s, when the helmets were solid silver. Georgia Tech: Memo to Chan Gailey---only when the Jackets wear their traditional white jerseys. A team whose colors are white and old gold---and one of only two big-time schools that traditionally wear white jerseys at home---should NEVER wear those ridiculous black or blue jerseys unless forced to do so. LSU: The other big-time program that favors white jerseys at home has a brilliant color scheme, and its classic uniforms have changed very little since the days of Billy Cannon and the Chinese Bandits. Michigan: The Maize and Blue are an incredible match, either at home or away, and despite comments by the Wolverines' fans in "The Big Chill," those classic helmets are NOT the "world's ugliest." In fact, Michigan's headgear MIGHT be the nation's best, whereas no MIGHT is necessary in rating "The Victors" the nation's best fight song. Mississippi" The classic red, blue & gray color scheme, quite similar to the New York Giants', hasn't changed much from Archie Manning to Eli. North Carolina: The home uniforms, with the Carolina blue jerseys and helmets, are incredible. But Butch Davis needs to leap back to Mack Brown's era and have the Tar Heels wear Carolina blue pants with their white road jerseys. Ohio State: One of the great pleasures of watching the Ohio State-Michigan game is that the Scarlet and Gray is as beautiful as the Maize and Blue---and "Across the Field" rivals, but can't top, "The Victors." Southern Cal: The never-out-of-style Cardinal and Gold uniforms have been classics for Heisman winners from Garrett to Bush. Tennessee: With all apologies to the Longhorns' burnt orange, no one makes better use of the color than the Volunteers. UCLA: The Bruins' home uniforms, with gold pants, sky-blue jerseys and gold helmets would be a clear choice as an unrivaled No. 1---if UCLA could find a decent helmet logo. The WORST: Tie for first: America never would have engaged in its Civil War had the blue and gray uniforms been as ugly as those in the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry of the same name. Next: With all apologies to Mississippi State, Texas A&M or any other school that is stuck wearing maroon uniforms, only Virginia Tech summoned the courage---or whatever it was---to mix maroon with ORANGE. Close Behind: If orange isn't necessarily the best color scheme, it gets worse: Miami mixes it with green. And Clemson, another school stuck with orange, sometimes has the intestinal fortitude to add purple pants to the mix. Right Behind: No all-solid uniforms are attractive, but Utah's all red color scheme is even worse. In Class by Itself (sort of): For those who are wondering what Georgia Southern's uniforms look like, the answer is Penn State's throwback uniforms. Or at least they LOOK like throwback uniforms. Ineligible for consideration: When Navy plays Army or Notre Dame, you have to remind yourself which team is which. The same goes for Florida State's annual tilt with Boston College. Florida, Auburn, Illinois and others have made blue and orange a very popular color scheme. The question is: Why? And memo to the Hawkeyes' fan: Those are the Steelers' duds. Nothing looks better than The Big Orange!
The Iowa Hawkeyes have some classy uniforms
Great choice! Georgia Southern! Hail Southern! Stick it with the old school look. Classic. What a great Eagle picture to put up...
R.I.P. Teddy Craft #85 How is Oregon not even ranked in the top ten? This is ridiculous. Im a die hard Michigan fan but the best uniforms other than ours are Oregon's and they are not even ranked. Thats some Bs
I read your list and Texas, number 1? ...and... and... oh, sorry... I just vomited in my mouth. Get a clue, guys. Those are U.G.L.Y. Go Aggies!
THE list.
1. U of Colorado 2. Hawaii 3. West Virginia 4. Miami 5. Cal 6. BYU 7. Arizona 8. Wyoming (not the ones pictured) 9. South Florida 10. Vanderbilt (black) Honorable Mention: Texas Tech Too Horrible For Words: (the following uniforms should be burned along with any and all photos of them so that they can't scar future generations) LSU Floirda State (except helmets) Michigan San Jose State Southern U. Ole Miss Tennessee Clemson (orange or purple) Syracuse North Carolina Florida Atlantic Texas USC UCLA Boise State Arizona State Florida (white on orange) Fresno State OREGON - oh my gosh - OREGON |
