Make Your College Football Predictions
1. Neither Nick Saban (Alabama), Jimbo Fisher (Florida State) or Miami (Randy Shannon) will be a BCS contender.
2. Despite losing Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, Antonio Pittman and Anthony Gonzalez, OSU will remain in a the thick of the Big Ten title hunt with Michigan and Wisconsin.
3. The Arkansas/Houston Nutt saga will not end well.
4. Hawaii will average 60 points per game this season.
5. Vanderbilt will go to a bowl game.
What do you think about Mandel's predictions? And give us your predictions for this season.
The University of Iowa will have two one thousand yard rushers and finish top three in the big ten race.
Agree with everything except #3 and #4, Houston Nutt ALWAYS suprises, and there is no way a college football team will average 60+ points in a year.
Penn State....National Champs!
FIRST, i'm no fsu fan but i could see them putting up a good fight in the ACC, even if lee and weatherford aren't consistent they're both enough of a legit threat to interchange and throw defenses off. Remember a couple years ago when then-FSU quarterback Wyatt Sexton claimed he was the "son of God", that crap was hilarious.
I agree about Hawaii. Under rated school with a passer who could easily win the Heisman if voters would stay up a little later to watch his game.
UT all the way baby....McCoy will come out slangin'!
I think Nick Saban will get Bama to 8 wins, probably stealing a game we shouldn't win, but at least this year we will be able to compete in the 4th quarter! With a 500% coaching upgrade, I see our win totals going up every year. Roll Tide Roll!!
1. I agree Alabama will lose its 6th straight to Auburn, but if FSU or UM can find any consistency on Offense they have the athletes to compete with anybody, plus who else will win the ACC? VaTech? Wake? Clemson?
2. OSU will always compete b/c a) they recruit well and b) outside of Mich, PSU and Wisc who is going to supplant them from the top tier of the BigTen? MSU, Iowa, Purdue not likely
3. With the Wildcat Offence figured out by mid season (Ark lost 4 of its last 5) and major home-state recruits transferring, Nutt as return to the hot seat after a one year reprieve.
4. Yes, the greatest air assault will continue at UH but will the Warriors ever be competitive with any of the big boys on the Mainland?
5. Vandy was a great story last year, but with Ala and Auburn being its 2 SEC West opponents and the usual SEC East trifecta of UF, UGA and UT, add in a nonconfrence Wakeforest...they will miss the post season again and the drought will continue. On another Vandy note congrats on winning your 1st ever national title in school history (women’s bowling)
Ok Mandel. New year but true to form, no surprises from you. Trashing Miami as usual. The haters only motivate the U to prove the haters wrong. Look for the Canes to win their division, The ACC crown and get a ticket to a major bowl. They have a lot to prove, they are hungry again, & have a coach who truly understands the Cane mentality(it's a Cane Thing) and has already locked up and will continue to own the blue chip prospects out of South Florida(already have 11 commits). So,to all of the Cane haters out there....God Bless You. Keep it coming. Your hatred only makes them stronger.
Stewart, let's not forget about Penn State. If Anthony Morelli has harnessed the promise he showed in the Outback Bowl against Tennessee, the Lions have a shot. They have plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball.
If not, ok, keep talking about the other guys. Dan Connor to replace Paul Posluszny and anchor the "D" is someone I would want to rally behind. I'm not sure they will go from 4th to 1st but they certainly will be a contender.
Steve Slaton, Pat White, and the rest of this year's Mountaineer squad will have another amazing year. Raising the question, "Is WVU a national championship contender?" They will, however, steer off course for one game this season, and that one game will NOT be Lousiville. They will ultimately end up sole Big East champs with bid to a BSC Bowl game, but in the end, fall short of a national title. Steven Slaton and Pat White will place 2nd and 4th, respectively, as Heisman candidates.
Im starting to get the feelings that I had back in 2002 when Maurice Clarett led the Buckeyes to a National Championship. Their offense was all Maurice Clarett. They ran the ball most of the time. Punted and kicked field goals when they had to. They played field position ball. Now that they lost that high powered offense from last year. They got another Maurice Clarett, but this time bigger, stronger, and faster. Chris "Beanie" Wells. And they have a defense that is almost just like their defense of that 2002 season. Look for THE Ohio State to be winning games real close all year and making another run to the National Title game.
None of his predictions were that "earth shattering", so here ya go.
USC vs OU for the Title in New Orleans...
DMAC will win the Heisman...Booty will get runner-up
Michigan will win the Big 10
LSU will win the SEC West but lose in the SEC Title game.
I forsee that Oregon will move Dennis Dixon to wide receiver (he is skipping spring & summer workouts for baseball) and start Brady Leaf (younger brother of legend Ryan Leaf)
Jonathon Stewart of Oregon leads the Ducks to a National Championship over Florida.
Pete Carroll starts dating Heather Locklear and USC loses 3 straight to end the season and wins a Sun Bowl birth against 6-6 Notre Dame.
Tim Tebow, measures in at 6'5" 300lbs and runs a 4.4, 40, he then goes 52-81 with 24 TD's and has 150 carries for 600 yards and 48 TD's this season.
Sure Ohio State will have wins in a silly conference like the Big Ten, but when playing out of conference as per Mich vs USC and OSU vs Florida last year they will get distroyed. I don't think OSU could compete for a title in the Big East.
1. No team in the SEC will go undefeated (again)
2. USC will attempt to go wire-to-wire as #1 in the always overrated PAC-10 and will do so reaching the BCS championship game for the 3 time in this decade undefeated
3. Notre Dame will (as usual) get stomped by the BigBoys (USC, Mich and PSU), but will play enough service academies (Airforce and Navy) and private schools (Duke and Stanford) to back its way into a top 12 finish and a BCS game.
4. The ACC will have another A beats B beats C beats A year where the conference champ winning in Jacksonville will finish with at least 2 conference losses.
5. Non-BCS sleeper to go undefeated and vie for a BCS bid: TCU
You can never leave Texas out. Also, Texas Tech is about one to two games from being a top ranked team... Longhorns will win it all...
Mandel's random predictions don't seem like he went out on to much of a limb. His boldest call was Hawaii averaging 60 a game.
They'll be a BCS team but 60 pts/game might be a bit high.
I think V Tech will win the ACC by beating Florida State.
I think West Virginia will run all over the Big East and Rutgers will come back to earth with a 8-4 season.
I think Arkansas will struggle to 8-4 and will have no one to blame but the crazy fan base who run the team. LSU will win the SEC, and UF will be a BCS team.
The Big Ten will be a season long battle between The Buckeyes, PSU, Wisky and that team up north. OSU will go 10-2, Michigan will go 10-2, Penn St will beat OSU and Wisky but still lose to Michigan and maybe Illinois (they'll be a tough scrappy team with good D) and Wisconsin will beat Michigan to win the Big Ten at 11-1, OSU will get a BCS bowl.
USC will look like the 2004 USC team and run over everyone.
Texas will win the Big 12 with a win over Nebraska.
The other BCS team will be Oklahoma.
Oh, and Notre Dame will get 7 wins at most.
WVU will finally win the national title by going undefeated in th Big East and then winning the gig game.
Wow. Stewart nailed his predictions this year, and I can't disagree with any of them.
After looking at the Big Ten this year, I actually believe the conference will have a three-way tie with Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan as co-champions with one loss each. Ohio State and Wisconsin will go to the BCS, leaving Michigan to the Capital One Bowl, and causing more cries for a Big Ten Conference Championship game and changes to the BCS rules.
I also believe that this year Vandy will be the best team from the Volunteer State.
Bama should improve this year, but not much. They just do not get the national talent anymore to contend for the BCS. The SEC will probably be a close call between two and three loss teams this year.
well i agree with most of that except i dont think ohio state will be as good as people think. sure they have a great defense still but the offense is basically nothing anymore so expect turnovers and lots of mistakes that will turn tides of games against them. i also think notred dame will do better than people expect. no they proly wont hit a bcs bowl like the 2 previous years but they will still be a force to reckon with and they will win games.
WVU will win a BCS bowl. Just like when they rocked UGA on their "home away from home" field.
I think that Oklahoma State will pull an upset and beat Georgia at Georgia this season
I think you might be onto something Stewart. As a diehard 'Noles fan I would like to think their record will be significantly better than last year but I think that's a little optimistic. I do think that the way they play should improve which is a different thing altogether. Saban is going to have to build "his" team and that's going to take a couple of years of recruiting. IF Alabama will give him time to do anything. And Miami was in such a shambles last year that expecting anything this year would be expecting miracles.
The Arkansas/Houston Nutt predication didn't take much in the way of mystical powers.
Why dont you take Ohio State out of the hunt for the BIG TEN title and add Penn State. PSU will easily beat both OSU and Wisconsin. Michigan in Ann Arbor will obviously be the tough game. You prove again that you know nothing about college football and to this day you refuse to PSU any love. Thats fine. Have fun lickin your wounds when they win the BIG TEN.
WVU will run and gun their way through the Big East and make it to the BCS Title Game where they will defeat USC.
LET'S GOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!
Georgia Tech will win the ACC, beating Boston College for the second time to finish their season 13-0.
tommy bowden will be fired from clemson unless he can pull out 10+ wins. he is a sub-par coach, with copius amounts of talent. he has some of the best atheletes in the country. for example a top 5 draft pick last season, and 3 possible first rounders coming out this season. james davis, barry richardson, and a couples others in the hunt.
Is it me or does anyone else see Georgia being stacked next year. I'm thinking they will make a hard run for a National Championship when Stafford is a Junior and Senior....
As much as it pains me to say it - being a rabid OSU fan - I think it may be Michigan's year in the Big10(or 11).... OSU will be solid. Beanie will be breath-taking. Their D will be stifling with Little Animal winning the Butkis. But the lack of experience at QB and the playmakers of Ginn and Gonzo gone will make for a more painful year than we're used to. I'm anticipating OSU goes 9-3 with a bid to a middle-of-the-road bowl game.
No way Oklahoma State beats Georgia in the opener at their home stadium. Georgia routinely destroys very good teams in their openers. Examples are Boise State and Clemson in the past 5 years.
if arkansas loses 2 or less games, (a pretty big if) mcfadden wins the heisman in a landslide.
did someone make a comment above about the "Big Least"
Lsu Rocks. I'm looking forward to the VA tech game. West virgiania might go undefeated until the title game and get creamed by a sec team
The sexy pick is OSU to beat UGA to start the season. It was also the sexy pick for Boise State to beat UGA at the start of the 2005 season. We all know how THAT turned out! UGA goes 10-2 in the regular season with loses to (pick two) either UF/UT/AU. They get a Capital One bid against Wisconsin, a team who gets a BCS snub again.
The SEC reqular season will end with all teams having at least two SEC losses due to conference parity. Thus SEC teams will rank poorly in the polls, yet be better teams than higher ranked teams.
60 points, even with Hawaii playing fairly weak opponents won't be reachable as an average.
If Houston Nutt can turn all of the off the field problems into motivation, watch out for the Hogs, remember they return one of the most potent pair of runners in the country, one of whom should be a front runner for the Heisman in DMac.....
Saban's Alabama squad should get some help with Major Applewhite's shotgun system...but the BCS may be a stretch this early....
CAL WINS PAC10 CHAMPIONSHIP GOES TO ROSEBOWL....DESEAN JACKSON EASILY BECOMES THE BEST RECIEVER/RETURN MAN IN THE COUNTRY...
Rutgers w/Ray Rice will take the Big East and be a great match up in a BCS bowl. Sure is nice to see winning seasons...
Though I am a bit biased, I doubt that Michigan will win the Big 10 Title, mainly because they'll walk into Champaign, Illinois thinking that they'll have an easy win, and end up getting upset by a young and feisty U of I team that's eager to win. In the end, Wisconsin will win the Big Ten, Michigan won't make a BCS, and for the first time in years, after going 6-6, Illinois will go to a bowl game.
The Arkansas/Houston Nutt predication didn't take much in the way of mystical powers.
Penn State will finish on top of the Big Ten and mount a serious run at the title game. Ohio State will come together by mid-season and finish strong coming in #2 in the Big Ten followed by Wisconsin. Michigan will lose five games and battle with Purdue and Michigan State for fourth. Iowa will finish eighth in the Big Ten. Cal takes home the Pac Ten title while LSU walks away with the SEC and one spot in the title game. The other goes to either Cal, Penn State, Texas or West Virginia.
I agree with some of the comments, but I do think FSU will rebound, they have too much talent (at least close to top 10 talent). People underestimate Arkansas. An offense with the best RB's in the country (don't forget about FB P. Hillis), and top WR, and 2 solid returnees on the OL. I think QB play will be better than expected. I do agree the defense was underrated in 2006, and a big part of Ark's success.
WVU is definately a national title contender. The Big East we can no longer consider to be a joke either!
The Buckeyes will have a very strong D not to mention a chip on their shoulder from the championship. We all remember a few years ago what happened to the 12 point favorite Hurricanes from "the gangsta U". Ken Dorsey is probably still smarting. The next challenge will be for the Buckeyes to realize the national championship game is almost as important as beating the all time winningest program in college football history....no Gators, not a team from the SEC.
1. USC will play Texas for the National Championship this year.
2. Darren McFadden Runs away with the heisman.
3. I agree that Miami, FSU, and Alabama will not be that much better. Miami will be the worst of all three!
4. Ohio State will still be pretty good, but Michigan wins the Big 10!
5. Once again, Texas proves they are better than USC and wins the national championship 35-31.
umd will shwitch qbs after their 2nd loss, never look back, and go on to win the acc atlantic, and only to get wrecked by va tech in the championship game
I look for WVU to have at least 2-400+ yds rushing games this season and lead the nation in the rushing category. Throw in an undefeated season and a national title...and well, there's my prediction.
Nebraska will run wild through their non conference and big 12 schedule, coming out undefeated for the Big 12 title game against Texas. They will not only humiliate UT at DKR in October, but they will also destroy them in San Antonio for the Big 12 crown. And they will play either Wisconsin, Michigan, or UF for the national title in New Orleans. Nebraska will be the 2007 national champions. GO BIG RED!
ACC- Va Tech
Big East- WVU, UL, RU 3-way tie (they beat each other at home)
Big 10- Penn State
Big 12- Texas
SEC- No idea but I'll pick Tennessee
TCU (at Texas) and Hawaii (at Boise State) will both have one loss so no BCS crashers.
I'll add to the Poke's upset of the Dawgs and say that Bedlam will determine who wins the Big 12 South. Again. Except it will be OSU-OU fighting for the spot and not Texas.
OSU might be good this coming year but their unreliable quarterback play will be the difference...defence is always good...could still contend for Big 10 bc it is a week conference
THE UNIVERSITY of TENNESSEE WILL BE A CONTENDER IN THE SEC & NAT'L CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
No team will go undefeated in conference.
Arizona will be the most improved team.
ASU will upset USC.
Cal will have a 1,000+ yard rusher in Justin Forsett.
Oregon will bench Denis Dixon by October.
OSU will loose Mike Riley to the NFL at the end of the season.
Stanford will finish 0-12.
UCLA will be the most dissapointing team
USC will score 70+ against Stanford .
Washington will upset Cal.
WSU will embarrass/expose UCLA.
Cal will go to the Rose Bowl with an 11-1 record (beating USC head to head)
the Pac will finish with 4 top 25 teams and send 7 teams to bowl games.
I'm not a Bama fan, but they have a very favorable schedule this season. I don't think ohio state will make a BCS bowl, they should lose to the badgers and wolverines and possibly to an underdog like an Illinois. just my opinion.
Major conference champions:
PAC 10 - USC
BIG 12 - TEXAS
BIG 10 - UM
SEC - LSU
ACC - MIA
ND wins 7 at most and starts out losing at least four of five. ND loses yet another bowl game by four touchdowns or more. Charlie Weiss still maintains that he can coach, and the media inexplicably agrees.
Penn State will win the Big Ten in route to winning the national title!
Rutgers will go back to being a cellar team as well as a laughing stock along with the rest of the Big East Conference!
Dan Connor will be named best LB and Def Player in the country at the end of the season!
The Heisman will come from the Big Ten this year!
There will be another BCS controversy screwing some team out of playing for the national title game!
JoePa will pass Bowden for the most wins by the end of the season
Almost every alum from any alma mater can relate to a once in a Lifetime type of season....The stars & the moon are lined up for the Old Gold & Blue.
So, on the Jan. 9th, 2008 anyone who's been thru Morgantown or to Mountain-eer Field will be singing it loud & proud,
"West Virginia, Mountain Mama, Take me Home, Country Roads, ...."
no way texas goes all the way with Colt I mean Cart McCoy. They lose to Oklahoma and A&M to finish 3rd in the Big 12 South
Remember the name DeMarco Murray the new RB for OU he is going to be a Heisman winner.
Michigan will lose to Appalachain State University.
Does it even mater who wins the Big 10! There also over rated, every year they continue to be exposed in bowl games. Michigan is barely a top ten team they just lucky they play in the Big 10 & not in the Big 12
I'm putting my money on Louisville and Florida in the Title Game. Both lost some key players but are stacked to the hills on talent. Florida schedule is the usual SEC grind week in and week out, but I can't see anyone in there realistically keeping them out of the SEC Title Game, and there has to be something said for that. Louisville's schedule is easy enough until the latter part of the season, and I think they have a better offense than W. Virginia all around, which is what will decide the Title matchup - that and the inevitable overly-hyped rematch with Rutgers at the end.
Also, USC, as usual, is completely overrated. The Pac-10, all over, save for UCLA and Cal, is completely overrated, lose consistently to teams outside their conference and all wear ugly uniforms, especially Oregon, with the exception of USC.
DeMarco Murray will make OU fan's forget Adrian Peterson by week 5. Also even with the QB spot being questionable OU will get a rematch against LSU in New Orleans for the National Championship. OU wins a close one, Reggie Smith NC MVP with his interception return for a TD and punt return TD
Hawai'i will not be a BCS team because of the lack of quality opponents...i think at least one of them, maybe a second, is a I-AA school. Colt Brennan will cement his legend as a UH quarterback (passing Michael Carter of the class of '93), but i don't think Heisman is in his future.
I like Va. Tech this year. They should win the ACC and be a top 5 team this year.
I can't believe Penn state would play alabama...paterno could never beat Bear Bryant.... old bananna nose was 0-4 against alabama....now that hes on his death bed he wants to steal a win....Saban says no way
While I certainly am not naive enough to expect Bama to win the NC, I think the talent is there and a change in attitude from the coddling and incompetence of the former regime will lead to 8 or 9 wins. By the end of the season they will be in the hunt for thw SEC West.
USC will lose their cross-town rivalry game and be bounced out of the Nat'l Title race by UCLA, specifically they're Defense which will once again make Booty look more like a JUCO player than a Heisman hopeful.
hawaii will get to a bcs bowl and colt brennan will win the heisman and will break all the records
get ready for this....CINCINNATI WILL WIN THE BIG EAST...seriously though 8-5 last year Louisville and WVU at home. i think they have a shot if the cards fall in the right places
my outlandlish statement of the year...(i allow myself one per year so there it is)
sense everyone loves Texas let me put this on you. They lose big, and I mean BIG to Oklahoma this year. Trust me the OU D-Fense is going to be better than anyone is giving them credit for. The offense will surprise the nation with lodaded talent all over the field. Forget that a new QB is coming in. OU ALWAYS manages the QB position... ALWAYS!!!! OU aveneges their embarassing loss to USC National champion... 24-17 over USC.
Notre Dame will upset Penn Sate in their house on natioanl tv and will WIN WIN a a nailbiter againt the the trojans in southbennddddd they will finsih the seaosn 11 - 1 loing to Michgian in the beggining of year look for the junior Even Sharpely to start but why year windles down look for the Freshman Jimmy Clausen to start and the irish will be in the championship and beat whoever they play and just like clausen said we winning 4 national championships
Props to Ohio State & A&M in '06 for beating the Horns in Austin. But against traditional powers...
2005 Texas 38 - Michigan 31
2005 Texas 25 - Ohio State 22
2005 Texas 45 - OU 12
2006 Texas 41 - USC 38
2006 Texas 28 - OU 10
2006 Texas 24 - Iowa 22
No way USC goes to the title game. Texas beats LSU in their own backyard just like they beat USC in their own backyard. Hook 'em!
Props to Ohio State & Texas A&M in '06 for beating the Horns in Austin. But against traditional powers...
2005 Texas 38 - Michigan 31
2005 Texas 25 - Ohio State 22
2005 Texas 45 - OU 12
2006 Texas 41 - USC 38
2006 Texas 28 - OU 10
No way USC goes to the title game. Texas beats LSU in their own backyard just like they beat USC in their own backyard. Hook 'em!
USC will lose to Nebraska and then destroy all Pac-10 opponents to land itself in the national championship game. Oklahoma St. will upset Georgia while Oregon defeats Michigan in the big house. Wisconsin loses early to Wazzu.
Props to Ohio State & Texas A&M in '06 for beating the Horns in Austin...and i'll even throw in K-State, but against traditional powers...
2005 Texas 38 - Michigan 31
2005 Texas 25 - Ohio State 22
2005 Texas 45 - OU 12
2006 Texas 41 - USC 38
2006 Texas 28 - OU 10
2006 Texas 24- Iowa 22
No way USC goes to the title game. Texas beats LSU in their own backyard for the Natl Championship just like they beat USC in their own backyard. Hook 'em!
Boise St. goes to Hawaii this year, end of November.
Illinois will challenge for the Big 10 title.
Yeah, I said it.
Although ND has a tough year, they breakthrough against 'SC at home and dash the Trojan's hopes of making the BCS Title game with a second loss (First one will either be ASU or Cal).
Here are my predictions for 07/08:
1. Has everybody forgotten Wisconsin, Iowa, and Penn State of last year? OSU and Mich are going to be a joke this year, but mostly Mich.
2. Colt McCoy will not throw for as many yards or TDs as Colt Brennan, but he will be the far more efficient quarterback. Both of them are poised to amaze us next year.
3. No surprise teams in title contention next year. Think SEC and Pac-10. Between Georgia, USC, Cal, Florida, LSU, and the always controversial Auburn/Arkansas/Alabama (who knows what they'll be like? anybody?) there are WAY too many big time contenders this year for little ol' Rutgers or anybody else to make a splash this year.
4. Notre Dame will be a crap football team with a few exceptional players. Nothing controversial here. They suck every single year, and all you whiny little fans complain about how you don't get enough respect because it's hard playing outside of a major conference. Go complain to the SEC teams that are consistantly snubbed with much, much better teams. Don't expect much sympathy.
Texas lost too much on defense. They will be lucky if they have less than 3 or 4 losses. They do have that ulta weak schedule going for them in the first half of the season, but no BCS this year.
UGA's Matthew Stafford will come out and UGA will be national champs
All of you people are putting down OSU when y'all have no right to be talking cause your teams haven't even made it to the big game! Last year's game against Florida was a fluke. It WILL NOT happen again. and whoever just said that michigan will win the big ten remember that the mighty buckeyes haven't been removed from your schedule. OSU will be big ten champs again.
OHIO STATE WILL WIN THE BIG TEN
USC 12-0 vs FLORIDA STATE 12-1
National title game
let me tell how it is....
Nebraska over TAMU in big 12
UCLA wins pac 10
Rutgers WVU tie in Big east
not that anyone cares but So. Miss in CUSA
SEC Auburn over Georgia
ACC who cares
MWC Colorado State
A on loss team will win the National Championship and its Michigan
And Nebraska Beats USC at home
USC vs Texas for national championship game.
Big 10 title will be as usual decided by the Big Two and Wisconsin. Michigan will be like Ohio State of '06. The offense should be unstoppable and good enought to win most games. My Buckeyes will play spoiler to Michigan's national title dreams. Michigan goes to Rose bowl and has its annual bowl meltdown and loses to Cal. Wisconsin will finally play in a BCS bowl. Not sold on PSU yet with that anemic offense.
WVU will once again fall short of expectations. It will still win the Big East.
SEC - LSU vs Florida in the SEC championship game. Nobody goes undefeated in the conference and once again an SEC team is shafted from the NC game.
Pac 10 - Cal will spank Tennesssee in the opening game.
Can UCLA upset USC again? Not likely.
ACC - bunch of mediocre teams. no team will be in the national title discussion but FSU makes a comeback and wins the ACC crown.
Notre Dame - killer schedule. could start the season 0-3.
1. DMac takes the Heisman.
2. SEC title game: A rematch with Arkansas winning this time.
3. Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden retire at the end of the season.
4. Navy defeats Notre Dame at South Bend, ends the streak.
5. Houston Nutt will leave Arkansas for another job at the end of the season. Razorback fans will be shocked that every top coach in the land isn't beating a path to their door.
DUKE WILL WIN A GAME! seriously, i think we got a shot.
USC will go into Nebraska and make a huge statement much like OSU did last year at Texas
Too many close loses last year that fuels KU winning on the road in '07. The Jayhawks will win the tie-breaker with nebraska to go to the Big XII Championship in San Antonio.
Once again this year is up for anyone! I'm a Texas fan so, Hook'Em Horns!!
USC will be number 1 all year long and win the whole thing against WVU by a score of 45-7. This will highlight the need for a 16 team playoff as great teams from the major conferences beat each other up and leave a weaker program undefeated and in the BCS title game.
I think that that the Big East will finally be respected. I hope voters realize that the Big Ten is not that great, but they will still get a higher ranking than they deserve. I hope they get nationally embarassed, again. I hope Arkansas does great and Mustain gets his ass beat at USC for being such a punk. An SEC team will win the Nat'l Champ vs. a Big East team. Hawaii and BSU will play one of the best games ever seen, topping the lame OSU-Mich game, but thats not hard. Football in the state of NC will actually do something. The ACC will play decent. The Big 12 will fall just short of the Nat'l Title game.
Notre Dame will go undefeated, win the national championship and jimmy clausen will win the heisman
You Arkansas haters need to chill out!! Year in and year out the Hogs are never picked to do anything and except for 2 years Nutt makes something happen. Apparently you haven't seen Dmac and Felix play because them two alone will win some games! Dick is poised to have a break out year under David Lee! Herring is the most underrated coordinator in the nation and will have that defense ready to go!! You haters better go ahead and jump on the band wagon, because the Hogs are taking the WEST two years in a row and will finish it off in Atlanta. DMac will run away with the Heisman and will go down as the Greastest Runningback of All Time! Everyone get ready the title is going back to the HILL!!
Joe Pa passes Bobby Bowden by the end of regular season....GO PSU!
For all you haters of Miami, talkin trash about "the U" only makes us stronger, and GT gonna 13-0 my butt, they lost the only player that had them in ESPN every other day. n also soo wat Miami went 7-6 they freakin lost their QB, and a fellow player, and by the way we had a coach who only won the National Championship in 01 cause he had like NFL stars on that team. MIami gonna to a BCS bowl n gonna cruise through the ACC just u wait, Randy brought the fear back to the U!
-Jimmy Clausen wins the Heisman Trophy
-Notre Dame repeats its underdog 1988 season and wins the national championship game against Hawaii
Notre Dame will beat Duke by a score of 1,000,000 to nothing.
To commentor number 2... if you agree with EVERYTHING except 3 and 4, what you're saying that is that you agree with 3 outta 5, or 60%. That's not everything.
-USC will get busted on recruiting violations.
-Charlie Weis will regret announcing the adornment of green jerseys several months before USC comes to South Bend (as if they needed the extra motivation.)
-A sports writer in South Bend will finally have the guts to criticize Weis.
-Michigan State will go 3-0 before going 0-9.
-Navy wins ten games.
-ND wins a bowl game. (pleeease!)
Oregon players will refuse to dirty their super cool unis.
Oklahoma embarrasses the U.
TCU will again fail to win their conference.
Boise State and Hawaii = big disappointments.
MSU is the worst team in the Big Ten.
Indiana goes bowling.
I get a sports writing job at SI.
OSU not just in the big ten title hunt but if the offense gels around Beanie they could get into the national title hunt as well
A true ND fan...ND finshes no better than 6-6.
Finally, you ND haters can stop complaining about how ND is so overrated.
Oklahoma State will beat an overconfident UGA at home due to UGA looking toward more high profile opponents.
Auburn beats Bama...again
Notre Dame finally realizes the level of play that the polls indicate.
Michigan wins a hard fought Big 10
USC loses to UCLA...leading Pete Carroll to be labeled an idiot (finally)
Miami wasn't that bad last year. They weren't Miami but their defense was formidable and they were in pretty much every game. LSU or Michigan struggle through a couple of games every year and no one says a word. I think that Miami just suffers from being so good for so long. Truth is the D is still intact and the offense has a decent running back in James. It might be 2 or 3 years before the U is the U but they will still win a few... and if you're not careful they could do more than win a few.
A lot of people are picking the Badgers to be the top of the Big Ten, which seems like a good bet after last year. But I also think that no team expected them to be so good last year, and that's where they got a lot of their wins. I'm not saying they won't be good this year, it just seems to me that they will have a tough time winning the Big Ten.
Mandel is just another faction of the NCAA and pollster conspiracy against Alabama. At the end of this year it'll be great to see him eat crow with the rest of the pundits that want to continually blast Alabama. When you have 12 championships, everyone just wants to bring you down. 'Til then, Roll Tide Roll!
I'm calling the upset right now...Nebraska over USC. Huskers trash their cautious game plan, and go for a more in-your-face plan. Also, Huskers win Big 12 and get BCS bid. GO HUSKERS!!!!
Watch out for Iowa to win the Big Ten championship. They don't play Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State. With a stellar front 7 coming back on Defense led by MLB Mike Klinkenborg they have a great shot at going undefeated in the regular season.
1.A team from a lesser conference than the SEC will win the national title.
2. Tenn will lose to UGA and FLA.
3. Tebow wont be as productive as thought and the Gator nation will turn on another QB for a year or two.
4. Auburn adds starts on the other hand against Alabama.
5. Wisconsin unfortunately misses out on another BCS
6. Notre Dame goes 7-5
LETS BRING ON THE MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Texas and Florida should meet for the National Title.
Hawaii should average about 44 points a game, but would not score more than 30 if in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Michigan and Ohio State will win 9 or 10 games, but would be about 4-4 in SEC conference play.
Alabama and LSU will compete for the SEC west title.
ND will have a surprisingly tough defense with new coordinator Corwin Brown and a deeper and more mature secondary. Offense will struggle as expected and the team will go 8-5 after starting out with a rough first 8 games and finishing with their annual bowl loss.
Texas wins 2nd national title in 3 years with favorable schedule and HIGH powered offense.
USC vs. West Virgina in the title game and SC winning by 14
Darren McFadden wins the heisman
Brian Brohm comes in second for heisman voting
OSU and MICH realize how bitchass they really are
miami will win the acc and have a top 3 defense if not the best in the nation
Texas will lose 4 games this year because Mack Brown will get very little out of his new offensive line ans secondary. My pick is USC over LSU for the National Championship.
MS in Texas
TCU will upset Texas reminiscent of the 2006 Fiesta Bowl and go on to their own BCS bowl win.
The Clemson Tigers and Bowden the Younger will finally win the ACC after the debacle last year. CJ Spiller and James Davis will make up one of the most explosive backfields in the nation.
The SEC champion will have 2 losses due to a tough conference and will be voted to the NC because of it. This will spell controversy because of a few one-loss teams from other BCS conferences.
Colt Brennan will pass for 6000 yards if he actually takes 4th quarter snaps.
Stewart's picks are solid. I expect Hawaii to sniff 60, but won't get there.
Bama wins 10 (tough opponents are at home.) Arkansas wins 9 despite Nutt issues. Georgia wins SEC over LSU.
Big 10 is weak; of course OSU will compete. Michigan wins the Big 10 and goes undefeated.
Texas rules the Big 12 but is nudged out by Michigan for a spot in the title game.
USC demolishes Michigan in the title game, spurring Carr's retirement.
More BCS: Georgia beats Texas or WVU by 7.
LONGHORNS ALL THE WAY! colty mccoy heisman winner oo yeah i can see that!
No one thinks that Bama will be in a BCS bowl, but a 7, 8, or 9 win season isn't out of the question. Wisconsin will get their chance in the Big-10+1 sun, USC will blow through a watered down Pac-10(again), look for Nebraska to surprise and win the Big-12 after taking their USC loss(which will be closer than yall think), Clemson will finally get over the hump, Louisville is the class of the Big East again, and one of the WAC trio (Fresno St., Hawaii, Boise St.) will run the table.
Alabama all the way to New Orleans....Ok if not this year I'll settle against them going to the Peach uh Chik-Fil-A bowl against who else: Miami (the U that is).
Bama has a new coach, new offense, and new defense being installed this year. The chances are pretty slim for a bcs bowl...but anyone playing them this year... best pack a lunch!
FSU, lots of talent but a year away, same with Miami.
NUTT... has wore out his welcome!
WISCONSIN kicks butt..and no i'm not a fan.
Vandy...now thats a tough one to call 50/50
#1 TEAM IN THE NATION ...GOTTA BE LSU!With their talent if they lose a game they should fire Les Miles!
.........That Blue and Gold blur you just saw was Pat White, Steve Slaton and Noel Devine......
The Gators will win the SEC title and will be in contention for a title defense.
Alabama will lose four games and will be blown out at least once at home. Bama fans will start to grumble.
USC will cruise through a mediocre PAC 10 but will lose to Cal who in turn will lose to OSU.
FSU will have another opportunity to play in the Emerald Bowl.
Joe Paterno will have a better season than Bowden. Both of them.
Charlie Weis will again fail to recognize that you actually have to play defense to win games.
Nebraska will lead the Big 12 in offense but not wins.
WVU will have 2 Heisman contenders until they play someone outside of the Big East. Then they'll have none.
Ferentz will have another mediocre year and will be on the hotseat.
Indiana will play hard in memory of their fallen coach but will fail to post a winning record.
Ron Zook will again prove that he can recruit.... and that's about all.
Michigan will beat tOSU.
In the SEC South Carolina will be the surprise team in the east. The defense will carry the team behind a monster D-line and Spurrier will get enough offense out of his guys to win 8-9 games including 1 upset over Georgia or Florida.
5. South Carolina
5. Mississippi State
6. Ole Miss
SEC Championship: LSU over Georgia
Why is everyone placing Va Tech above Georgia Tech this year? GT won handily AT Blacksburg last year, and this year VT plays in Atlanta. GT returns most of their starters and brings a MUCH better QB, so why not GT for coastal division champs?
i have to disagree with the guy who said that the SEC will end up with a bunch of 2 loss teams. Agreed the SEC is a very even conference with very little dead weight, but two teams stand out among the rest in talent and schedule: Florida and LSU. Both have road games at Ole Miss and Kentucky. LSU also has road games at Miss St, Tulane and Alabama. Florida has the additional road games of South Carolina and LSU. Other than the Florida-LSU game in Baton Rouge on Oct 6, neither team should loose any of their games. Who wins in Baton Rouge is pretty up in the air, and will depend on which Gators and Tigers show up on that day.
LSU-UF round II ATL Dec 1
12-0 vs 11-1(who is which:???)
Hey SEC fans. I agree your conference is the toughest conference(especially to win the National Title from), but that doesn't mean you have the #1 team in the country!!! I do think Florida was the best team last year (although I know they are thankful everyday they didn't have to play the second best team in the country...The Trojans!), but can all you southerners stop crying every year about how your getting screwed. How about scheduling an opponent out of conference other than High school teams, that way when you lose your one conference game, you still have a legitimate arguement and we can compare you to the rest of the college field. Scheduling Troy St, the Citadel and Southern Miss, doesn't really give us an idea about how good you all are. And by the way, your loser teams (Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss St) scheduling good out of conference teams still gives us no idea how good your conference really is since they usually get blown out and then your good teams barely squeek by them during conference play. Yes I recognize the PAC 10 is horrible by the way. That doesn't mean the Trojans couldn't blow everyone in the SEC away. If you wanna argue this, chew on this first. USC vs SEC the past 5 years: 4-0 (Auburn, Arkansas). SEC outscored 167-48 in the 4 games....hmmm....see you in the title game hopefully this year SEC fans!!!
PS...SEC, you can have John David Booty back if he plays like he did against UCLA and Oregon St last year. We prefer to not have southerners in our great state anyway.
"Sure Ohio State will have wins in a silly conference like the Big Ten, but when playing out of conference as per Mich vs USC and OSU vs Florida last year they will get distroyed. I don't think OSU could compete for a title in the Big East."
Wow whoever said that is completely and utterly moronic. The Big East is biggest farce of the BCS conferences. OSU would smoke any of those teams (and I hate the Buckeyes)
USC vs. Michigan for the National Title
McFadden for Heisman
Notre Dame 7-5
Penn State #3 in the Big 10
Nebraska hands Southern Cal its worst beating since Arizona in 2000. They still win the PAC-10. They still get to go to the BCS Championship. They slip by a gigantically overrated but undefeated West Virginia in a yawner worse than last year's LSU-Auburn. Following that, the outcry for an 8-team playoff reaches Dawn of the Dead proportions. Nothing changes. We make our predictions again next year.
Nebraska will beat either USC or Texas.
It is quite simple, really.....here is what is the BCS championship matchup is going to be:
Michigan vs. Louisville
Michigan is going to win the game 34-28. GO BLUE!
Heisman vote will go: 1. Booty, 2. McFadden, 3. Brennan
Gamecocks make a strong run for SEC title game.
Michigan takes Big 10
Texas takes Big 12
Hawaii crashes BCS, but loses Bowl.
West Virginia will be in the BCS title game.
Cal upsets USC to keep them out of title game, and send themselves to the Rose Bowl.
Notre Dame regresses from last year.
This has basically become "let me say my team will win the national championship, no matter how outrageous that claim may be" (looks your way OSU fans).
As a Georgia fan, I'm well aware of our yearly loss to Florida being the stepping stone keeping us from the national title game (2002, we were 13-1, with a loss to Florida our only reason that we weren't in the mix). I say this year we finally beat Florida when both teams are good, only to fall to Auburn at home (as history dictates, we loss at home and win on the road). We'll end the season with at least 10 wins again.
Other than that, I see LSU in the SEC championship game versus either UGA or Tennessee. Florida lost too much to stand back up and take the best shots of UT and Georgia, along with Auburn and LSU. Outside the important conference, I'd say that either Wisconsin or Michigan wins the Big 10/11, and that Texas wins the Big 12 (with 1 loss). USC will win the PAC-10, but not go undefeated again. This probably means that Texas and LSU or USC will go head to head in the national title game, as the Big East's parity will cause the late season collapse of Louisville and West Virginia's dreams once again, although more likely at the hands of USF than at the hands of each other. Darren McFadden rightfully wins the heisman, with the Colt Brennan train keeping him close and Booty getting the sympathy vote from all those ex-Trojans who seem to think heisman players only come from USC-West.
West Virginia will go undefeated with a well deserved team to go to the national championship. Unfortunately, do to the strength of their schedule they will miss the title game causing an up roar in the BCS. Rightfully so even though they will be deserving it will be justifiable in order to prove that teams need to play people in order to get to the championship. I blame the West Virginia coaching staff for not doing a better job of scheduling for a BCS Big East team.
1st saban has the only chance out of them all. miami out for sure and they will never be the same team as they once were becouse they r ganna continue to get bad reputation. flordia state is ganna struggle this year with its offence but its deffence will help early in the year but it wont be able 2 carry the complete load in the long run.
2.i dont think ohio stte is ganna be able 2 replace the stars. they will not be a great team and they will be very mediocker nothing bad. nothing great.
3.lets face mckfadden wont be able 2 cary the load. not a good season
4. i think that they have a good enough gb to do so but in the long run they wont be able 2. 60 points is alot
5.vandy will be very underated but with there gb i think that they will be surprised. they will go 2 a bowl game and win.
my own predictions.
nerbaska will show this season. they will have a tough schedule but with sam keller and the nebraska black shirt defence d will be great. big 12 champs
tam will be a force and they will just barly fall short and lose 1 game this season.
Iowa not playing Michigan and OSU will benefit those two programs more than it will help Iowa.
Did anybody see this post....
"Posted: 2:22 PM by Anonymous
Is it me or does anyone else see Georgia being stacked next year. I'm thinking they will make a hard run for a National Championship when Stafford is a Junior and Senior...."
Good to see Georgia fans are already mailing it in this year...... I geuss since Munson prob. wont be calling the games the team has no chance of winning.I cant wait to see that other OSU team kick their butts to open up there season.....
Gators! Florida's offense will rank near the top all year. 9 new starters on defense will make for some close games but the 'Urban Renewal' project already strikes great fear in the nation's best conference and -as last year proved- NO ONE CAN STOP Tim -The Bull- Tebow! Back to Back! I've heard that somewhere before...
Yeah, sure. "It's a Cane thing." Starting fights. Kicking people in the head. Breaking and entry. Doing drugs. Going to jail.
Something to be proud of. Something to aspire to. Something to say to your kids, "I want you to grow up to be like those low-lifes."
"It's a Cane thing." Give me a break.
I think Noles will go 10-2 this year
OK, I understand that The University Of Miami is NOT going to be a powerhouse this year BUT I do believe we will see substantial improvement over last year. Not a big bowl game for them but a second tier bowl at least. The defense is going to keep them in most games.
Syracuse will have a break out year with AROB at the helm. He has great sizem, great arm, and some speed to go along with it. People under estimate this team becuase of past losing seasons. the CUSE will have wins against washington, Illinois, CIn, uconn, buff, pit, and possibly an upset of either rutgers or south florida... go CUSE
Of the 3 good-but-not-great teams mandel mentioned (FSU, Miami, Alabama), Florida State is the one who conveniently gets to play both of the others this year. Now, I already know they'll beat the canes, thats a given. But FSU vs Alabama hasn't happened in a very long time, so I'm looking forward to that showdown.
FSU actually does pretty good in the big games. They own the Miami rivalry at the moment, they slaughtered UCLA in the emerald bowl, and they consistently hand VTech loss after loss. Its the games they've embarrasingly dropped against lowly maryland, NCState, etc. the past few years that terrify me.
Heck with those, though. Bring on alabama! Go noles!
Everyone must be out of their minds saying that BAMA wont be a contender this year. We have 9 starters returning on the offense this season. Might i remind everybody that we never actually got blown out in any game....1 point here,3 points there,a touchdown here and we were actually leading in all of those games but poor, terrible coaching decisions and a lack of team preparation lead to Shula's ousting...don't be surprised if BAMA goes to the SEC championship this year. Hurry up and get a seat on the bandwagon before they all get filled.......ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rutgers will still be a bowl team but will begin to settle back down to Earth and finish 4th in the BE behind West Virginia, Louisville and South Florida.
Colt Brennan will win the Heisman Trophy coming off one of the greatets statistical seasons ever and an undefeated season.
Greg Robinson will be updating his resume by the early portions of November.
Alabama will win 10 games due to a very easy schedule & Saban will be hailed as the savior of 'Bama football, only to get blown out in a decent bowl game when they face a good team
Kansas State University head coach Ron Prince will once again mirror OU head coach Bob Stoops, and take his wildcats to the National Championship game in his second year.
VT will win the ACC in dominating fashion, even with a terrible QB like Glennon. They need to get Whitaker more involved and he will take over the staring job by week 5.
How do leave Penn State out of contention of winning the big ten. They will Destroy everyone espcially OSU and Michigan. If u didnt notice i hate those teams
you OSU fans are ridicoulous
if half the team died in a car crash you would still think they had a chance to win 10 games. i mean come on it does help they are in the most overrated confrence but seriously deal with losing again because it might take awhile to get back to the top
Nebraska will win the Big 12 Championship game.
Nick Saban is an overated coach, Colt whatever isn't that good. They won't score 60+ points
GO TENNESSEE BABY
GO ERIC AINGE
The real UT is Tennessee. Not Texas cause Tennessee has more overall wins.
Arkansas will win 10 games again this year. That cupcake schedule shouldn't allow for anything less. If so, Coach Nutt will be looking for a new gig by the end of January. They moved from a high school coach running the offense to an NFL coach running the offense. (of course we all know that Houston Nutt runs the offense) Casey Dick will have a much improved season, the running game will be top 3 in the country, the D took a hit with grads and early departures but its still strong and should be well rested considering the running strength on offense. If the Razorbacks don't make a good showing this year, ending the season strong then Coach Nutt should be fired. Way too much talent not to win... ALOT! Great coaches win championships with this kind of talent. This is do or die time for Houston Nutt. Woo Pig Sooie!! Razorbacks!!
if you want see a true national championship game , it should be between SEC winner vs the best team out of other bcs confrences,
yaa it is very easy for pac10, big 10 winners to go undefeated ,we have to change the system.
If Florida's defense can hold their own and some young guys step up and if the offense plays to their potential, the Gators should be in great shape to make a BCS game. It would be great to humble another "media darling" team like OSU.
I agree with all except 60+ per game.
My prediction is Brian Brohm throws for 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns and wins the Heisman. Louisville goes to a BCS for 2nd year in a row.
The Oklahoma Sooners will roll to the National Championship this year with a new quarterback and new running back. The defense will lead the way for Stoops troop.
Oklahoma will win the Big XII again; but this time, the only assistance Texas will offer is the loss they will suffer when we take the Golden Hat...Florida, Ohio State, and Michigan will all have 2 losses, and the national championship will be between OU, and LSU...Remember who said it.
Shula left Alabama with more talent than people think. Defensive line is a question mark, but they will have veteran receivers, quarterback, offensive line, defensive backs. They have a stable of running backs, and some good linebackers. If a few freshman came come in and contribute early, then don't be surprised by a run for the SEC West title. I also believe it is their year to beat Auburn.
My prediction for the big ten is that IOWA will win it all.
Nebraska over USC in September.
Alabama 25 Arkansas 17
Alabama 19 Fla St. 14
Alabama 20 Tennessee 14
Alabama 17 LSU 15
Alabama 31 Auburn 24
Bama will loose three games they are supposed to win.
Wisco to the Rose Bowl!!
West Virginia will be 11-0 going in to the Backyard Brawl. Unfortunately, their national championship dream is crushed when PITT hands them a crushing defeat in the biggest upset of the year.
The SEC is the toughest conference in college football. Obviously no one in the SEC will come out undefeated and sadly, the winner of the SEC Championship will not go to the National Championship; however, I'd take the SEC Champs over any team in the nation, any day of the week. We all saw how Florida dismantled the "unbeatable" Buckeyes who came out of that joke of a conference. I hope a better system is found within the next few years to make the National Championship games a better match-up and an undisputed champion can be crowned year after year. University presidents need to put their heads together and realize that non-conference games against roll-over teams should be eliminated to shorten the season and allow more time for a playoff-type system. That's not to say that the lay-off between the regular season and the National Championship wasn't long enough this past season.
Georgia will continue to impress and make a run...'08 they take it all...
Iowa will continue its downward trend of the last 2 years.
I go to the University of Florida, so this may be biased. However, Florida will play in the SEC Championship again this season. Florida has brought in, what many believe, the top recruiting class the last 2 seasons. Urban Meyer has stockpiled enough talent to compete with any team in the country. I don't think Florida can beat LSU, although I think people are giving Matt Flynn entirely too much credit for an unproven player. But, Florida may sneak into a BCS game and I think will definatly play in at least a New Years' Day game.
JoePa coaches his last game....
SEC-South Carolina shocks the country to win the title
ACC - Florida State
Big Ten - Penn State
Big 12 - Texas
Pac 10 - So Cal
Big East - West Va.
Big 12 predictions:
2)Colorado(yes believe it or not they will win some games)
3)Iowa St. (Gene Chizik will have huge impact)
1)Texas Tech(Harrell will make huge improvements in second year as quarterback)
6)Texas A&M (Franchione sucks..and will get fired at end of the year for not making a bowl game for a 3rd time in four years....and suffer a 52-7 beating by baylor to top it off)
Joe Pa coaches his last game
Tennessee beats USC for National Championship.
National Champion will come out of SEC East Again!
WVU's title bid will be crushed in an upset by Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. Lousiville will go on to win the Big East and its BCS game.
CAL will get the ROSE BOWL or better this year. I CAL offense will dominate this year. The defense will step up to support.
Mike (GO BEARS)
The ACC title game will be Fla St./Clemson winner vs. Va Tech
Va Tech wins but Fla St. and Clemson both go to decent bowl games and have good records both Bowdens either retire or are fired.
Ohio St. Sucks and so does the entire Big Ten!
West virginia vs USC, Close game could go either way for title.
I predict that Michigan will run left behind Jake Long on the 1st offensive play of every game.
Mike DeBord's offense is so predictable that it's ridiculous. In all 12 games last year Michigan ran left on the 1st play. If I can see that, what is a defensive coordinator seeing?
And to the crazy person that thinks Penn State will win the national title this year, you are insane? Lloyd Carr doesn't own many coaches, but he owns JoePa (Michigan has not lost to PSU since 1996).
I will give you the top five underrated teams in the nation...
1. Ohio state - still have last year defense and a offense that is young but have PT.
2. California - very capable too take the pac-10 even with usc lingering
3. Oklahoma - great defense and enough talent on offense to win the big 12.
4. Rutgers - basically still have the same team from last year and anything possible with ray rice in the backfield
5. Indiana - this team will be fired up after the death of coach H and mix that with the easiest schedule in the nation will rise eyebrows.
I'll only make 1 prediction. Major Status Quo shakeup in the SEC this year.
Tennessee over Alabama in the SEC Championship game. (PS I am not a fan of either program so I am not a homey)
IOWA WINS THE BIG TEN.
LSU WINS THE SEC
RUTGERS WINS THE BIG EAST
USC WINS PAC 10
TEXAS WINS BIG 12
FSU WINS ACC
OHIO WINS THE MAC
Indiana will honor Coach Hep by winning their final home game over arch-rivals Purdue to become bowl elligible and there will not be a dry eye in the house.
The Big 12 emerges as the new Most Powerful Conference to the medias disgust.
Your nat'l champion will give up roughly 13.6 PPG and no more than 16 in a worst case scenario
No team with an opponents winning % of .680 or above will be able to go undefeated
There will be 1 or less undefeated BCS-conference teams and none that have to play a conference title game
For the moron USC fan saying the SEC doesn't schedule tough out of conference games, please see last year:
Tenn over Cal
UF over FSU (not to mention OSU)
Georgia over GT
USC over clemson
Every SEC school has a tough out of conference game and it gets even harder this year. Check your facts USC fan.
Big Ten: Michigan. Wisconsin and Ohio State loose too much talent.
Pac-10: USC. Sorry UCLA, but one win in a while is all you're going to muster... However, USC won't be undefeated.
SEC: Wide open, but I'll take Tennessee. Dormant for too long, I guess. They take LSU in the SEC title game.
Big 12: OU. They'll beat UT, and they'll cream NU again in the title game. I'm an NU fan, but NU can't take UT or OU.
Big East: A former mid-major will win the conference. They will then get blown out against their BCS opponent.
Huge upsets: Oky State beats OU. USC suffers a loss to Cal.
Independants: Navy beats ND. I can feel it.
Nat'l Champion: OU vs Tennessee. Both have one loss. Tennessee wins.
ND surprises everyone who thought they'd regress with the loss of Quinn, Samardzija, Walker and McKnight, and goes 11-1. Whether that gets them into the BCS Championship Game will depend on how many teams go undefeated.
Big 12- Texas
Big 10- Michigan
Big East- Louisville
Pac 10- Oregon
TX A&M,West Virginia, LSU, Hawaii
Heisman winner: Brian Brohm
Championship: Texas beats Michigan in a shootout, 52-38
A few people are beginning to get it right. Some are picking Ga. as the "Darkhorse" candidate to win the SEC East and lose to LSU in the title game. The Dawgs will not only beat Okla. St. in a hard fought game but will win the SEC East AND beat LSU in the title game. Flying under the radar is where we want to be right now.
Going back to a comment made by an OSU fan earlier... Florida's win over OSU a fluke? how can you say that? the only two things that I got out of that game is that speed kills, and OSU's premiere players didn't step up for their team when it was crunch time... '07-'08 Gator offense will be much better w/ Tebow at the helm (although I have great respect for Leak and his arm), but the defense is suspect in the secondary... we'll see what happens... I'm not going to sit here and make a stupid comment like 'Gators will repeat' like some of these other boneheads on here... we'll see how it plays out... Go Gators!
Big Three- Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10 Predictions
I'm not even going to go into the SEC because of how cannibalistic it is. DMAC will rush for 1400 is my best prediction.
Is it really a question? USC is expected to sledgehammer their way through their conference and will already have the conference title literally locked away. Everything looks fine for the mighty trojans until a small slipup @ UCLA again... nothing catastrophic, and USC will still have enough points to scratch their way into the Nat.@ NO. Why? Because no team, bar TCU, will go undefeated.
The Empire strikes back as Texas proceeds to lose in a stunner to TCU in game 2, dropping their ranking to the teens, and then Texas proceeds to steamroll the rest of its schedule. They will embarass Oklahoma and pulverize K-State, and this time a bulked up McCoy won't go down.
Nebraska will, as expected, get diced by USC, but will have a decent season with two losses, one to texas and the other to USC. Big 12 North will have yet another hideous year and nebraska will duel the horns for the title, and lose an overhyped matchup 14-56.
Not too much to say. PJ Hill will go on a marathon for 1200+, Michigan has its best shot at downing the Buckeyes, and when all's said and done, the top 3 B10 rankings will be:
Ohio State will once again win the Big Ten and get a BCS bid due to Jim Tressel's unbelievable coaching.
I think the WAC and MWC should merge their best teams to becoming a 7th BCS conferebce:
San Diego State
"For the moron USC fan"
SEC playing tough games?
LSU plays Middle Tennessee, V. Tech, Tulane and Lousiana Tech
Tennessee plays Arkansas State, Cal, Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette
Florida plays Western Kentucky, Troy and Florida Atlantic.
Arkansas plays Troy, North Texas, Florida Int'l AND Chattanooga.
Georgia plays Western Carolina and Troy and Okie State.
Aubrun plays Kansas State, South Florida, New Mexico State AND Tennessee Tech (really?)
Alabama plays Western Carolina, Houston, and Louisiana-Monroe and FSU
South Carolina plays Clemson, Louisiana-Lafayette and S.C. State
I'm not even going to discuss Kentucky, Miss State, Ole Miss or Vandy.
Pac-10 you ask?
USC plays Nebraska, Notre Dame and Idao
Cal plays Tennessee, Colorado State and Louisiana Tech
UCLA plays BYU, Utah and Notre Dame
ASU plays San Jose State, Colorado, San Diego State
Oregon State plays Utah, Cincy and Idaho State
Arizona plays BYU, NAU and New Mexico
Oregon plays Houston, Michigan and Fresno State
Washington plays Syracuse, Boise State, and Ohio State
Washington State plays Wisconsin, San Diego St, and Idao
Stanford plays San Jose State, TCU and Notre Dame.
Looking at those schedules, it's painfully clear that STANFORD is playing a harder non-conference schedule than ANYONE in the SEC. Until you guys want to stop playing the Louisiana-(Enter anything here)'s or Chattanooga or North Texas, stop trying to sound clever and tough. Yah, we know, the SEC is so awesome. You guys beat each other EVERY year. It's so tough and it reeks of tradition.
I just wish my parents had lived in Baton Rouge or Little Rock and I could go to such a prestigious university like the SEC schools instead of getting my bachelor's and master's at USC...
TCU will shock UT and the world this season by beating the horns!
All the Cane bashing is a little rediculous. Lets face it the problems that Miami has had a re not that different from any other school. I do not see any mention of OU's team mates shooting each other, their QB being a coke head, the sexual assaults, or the numerous NCAA and recruiting infractions (Switzer era) How about we bring up where PAC-MAN played in college or how many SEC players have been arrested in the past 3 years (it is an impressive list). The fact of the matter is that Miami will be better next year, they have the talent and the right coach at the right time. But since this is about predictions here they go:
Big East: Louisville
Big 10: Wisconsin
Big 12: Texas A&M
Pac 10: Cal
To the Moron who said this at 4:39pm...
"Does it even mater who wins the Big 10! There also over rated, every year they continue to be exposed in bowl games. Michigan is barely a top ten team they just lucky they play in the Big 10 & not in the Big 12"
....R U Kidding. Say what you want about the Big Ten, but to suggest the Big 12 is a tough conference is laughable at best. Texas and Oklahoma are solid programs. Nebraska has been down for years as have Colorado and K-State. 2 1/2 teams don't make a conference. In a mediocre year Mich, OSU, PSU, Wisc would all go 7-2 in the Big 12.
Let's look at the Conferences for current upper crust programs:
Pac 10: USC, UCLA, Oregon
Big 12: OK, TX (NEB is respectable)
Big Ten: Mich, OSC, PSU, Wisc,
Big East: UWV (Sorry Rutgers..1 year does not make you worthy. Louisville is still marginal)
ACC: Miami, VT, FSU
SEC: AU, FL, GA, LSU, UT
If you look at the 2nd tier of the conferences, the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC all gain ground on the Big 12.
Rose colored glasses my friend!!!!
How about a Florida Gator repeat as national champs in football. Might as well since their basketball brothers did it. You heard it here first.
USC will continue to play against the PAC Highschool conference and when a rough team does come along they will be plenty practiced from playing all the cupcakes to beat them pretty good.
Florida Will Not Win the SEC or go to the Nat'l Championship this year maybe next year but not this year there are too many teams with revenge on their minds AKA LSU and Tim Tebow didnt do anything against Auburn last year he wont this year Tray Blackmon has his number. Next year there is a good possibility but South Carolina is gonna be nasty by then.
I will only comment on the Irish for now as I have not made my full predictions on the season yet. The Irish have a rebuilding year and win the games they are supposed to win (Navy, Army, Duke, etc). They lose the big games (USC & Michigan) but make them respectable. Finish the year at 8-5 and winning a small bowl, possibly ranked at the bottom of the top 25. Hopefully the defense can get a boost from Corwin Brown and a quarterback steps up to lead for the season after next.
Why is there is so little talk of Oklahoma? They have lots of returning starters on both sides of the ball. This will prove the winning edge for them in the big match up against Texas: OU 31- Texas 10. It kills me to say this but OU takes the Big 12 South but loses to Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game. OU gets a BCS bid and Nebraska will spank USC in a shocker.
McFadden edges Slaton for the Walker Trophy, and are both top-10 picks in the NFL draft.
Brohm wins the Heisman after leading Louisville to a Big East Championship and a BCS Championship berth. Brennan isn't given serious consideration due to Hawaii's pitiful strength of schedule. The rest of the top five in Heisman votes are McFadden, Slaton, John David Booty, and Ian Johnson. Colt McCoy wins it the year after next.
The SEC East is the most competitive division in college football next season, with five teams that went to bowl games last year, including the defending national champions. Vanderbilt will be improved, but still can't keep up with the rest of the SEC.
Virginia Tech beats Boston College to win the ACC Championship. The rest of the ACC is again a bunch of fair-to-good teams without anything spectacular.
USC beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl again.
The Big 12 will produce the other BCS Championship team.
Arkansas has another double-digit win season and Houston Nutt keeps his job, though it's anyone's guess why he would want to put up with the insanity surrounding the program.
USF comes in third in the Big East, and is the conference champion in the 2008-2009 season after Brohm, Slaton, and White enter the NFL draft. A little early, but their offense should be strong now that Groethe has a decent running game behind him, and Jim Leavitt is a great coach.
The Florida Gators almost put up Spurrier-esque amounts of points, but their defense needs another year before they're ready to challenge for the national title. One of the three QBs behind Tebow transfers after this season.
USC will lose at Nebraska, and LSU will lose to Virginia Tech.
Meanwhile Texas and Oklahoma will begin the season undefeated and go into the Red River Shootout both as top 5 teams and with National Title hopes.
Tim Tebow will be dissapointing and Florida will lose four games.
Jimmy Clausen will also be a letdown and lead Notre Dame to a 6-6 season.
Michigan will dominate the Big Ten while Ohio State struggles, but OSU will upset the Wolverines in overtime to keep Michigan out of the title game.
The national championship will be a battle of high powered offenses with Texas and West Virginia and the Longhorns will pull off another 4th quarter comeback to win their second title in 3 years.
Other BCS matchups:
-Michigan will get revenge over USC in the Rose Bowl.
-Hawaii will crash the BCS but be dominated by LSU in the Sugar Bowl.
-A one loss Nebraska team will go head to head with Louisville in the Fiesta Bowl and win a close game.
-Virginia Tech will lose the Orange Bowl against Arkansas and Heisman-winning Darren Mcfadden.
no one has mention Boise St. Broncos. Has anyone checked-out their record in the last 6 yrs. They have the best winning percentage in the nation. Even with a new quarterback. So, everyone think Hawaii, but Boise St has loaded up again. Can you say BSU vs.Michigan in a BCS Bowl. How can Colt Brennen win the Heisman Trophy, look at who they play. Check-out BSU schedule. They go undefeated again, can you say National Champions!!!!! Bring on USC,Ohio ST, Texas, or Florida. First OKLA, who next? Shock and Awe Baby.
The winner of Boise State and Hawaii will go to a BCS game... and probably win it
WVU will win the National Championship! Steve Slaton wins the Heisman, Pat White lands the 3rd spot in the Heisman race.
'Tis the Year of the EER's!
Let's Gooooooo Mountaineers!
Give 'em some Mountaineer Magic, get your Mountaineer Magic Gameday Towel.
UPDATED SEC 2007 RESULTS
1. Tennessee (10-2)
2. South Carolina (9-3)
3. Florida (9-3)
4. Georgia (8-4)
5. Vanderbilt (8-4)
6. Kentucky (6-6)
1. Auburn (12-0)
2. LSU (11-1)
3. Arkansas (8-4)
4. Alabama (8-4)
5. Ole Miss (6-6)
6. Miss State (5-7)
SEC Championship: Auburn over Tenn
Slaton, White, Devine, Schmitt. Most dominate backfield ever to be assembled in college football. National Champs
Boise State will be the next Boise State for 2007.
WVU's title hopes will be dashed in an upset loss to Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. Louisville will win the Big East and play VT in the BCS.
The Pennsylvania State Nittany Lions will worst case scenario go to the Rose Bowl with one loss...best case National Title game undefeated. The Big East is a glorified WAC and their bowl wins were against awful teams.
Florida State will be better than last year, however, the record won't show it. A brutal schedule (@ Clemson, Alabama, @ Va Tech, @ Florida, Miami, @ Wake Forest) will hurt their record.
People will be jumping off the Florida bandwagon by October. Playing their SEC schedule, too many players need to be replaced on D, and an inexperienced quarterback. Remember, Tebow, only played in a few plays here and there and did not start a game. I'm curious to see what happens when he actually has to play an entire game and defensive co-ordinators get film on him. Tebow doesn't live up to the hype this year.
If you want a bold prediction, the team from Florida that has the best chance to play in a BCS bowl...South Florida.
it sounds crazy, but Hawaii averaged 44 points a game last year, and if they get any more explosive on offense and against a weak schedule, 60 isnt to far fetched, insanely hard? yes, but it is possible
Nebraska goes to Texas undefeated, beats Texas by 10, runs the table the rest of the way and plays Florida for the title game. Sam Keller wins Heisman with a 4000 yard passing season.
GO BIG RED!
Look at Michigan's schedule... They are the only undefeated team this year and play for the National Championship. All while I'm away in Italy on study abroad...
Saban will lose 10 coaches in 3 years. He is an ass to work for. It won't be his defense that every one will talk about this year, it will be Major Applewhite's Offense. Saban will never finish better than 2nd in the West. He will get frustrated that he can't duplicate what he did at LSU and probably Piss off the Media as well. Gerry Dinardo won with Louisiana Talent as well.
To all people who not fans of the SEC or don't know what its like to have your team in the SEC. There will be a undefeated team in the SEC LSU LSU. this is our season I noticed no one is talking about the best D in the country and as said in the past in all levels of footbal D fence wins Championships. The last time we had a D this good we won the National Championship and by the way we didn't share anything with the losers from South Cal. Last time i checked from 98 til now we go of the BCS system not the AP poll with doesn't mean a F.;' thing so to all haters of the SEC just sit back and watch LSU run away with our third Nat title. Oh and the starting QB on the number 1 team will win the Trophy. Matt Flynn
Tim Tebow will run Urban Meyer's spread option to perfection, but UF will struggle to reload on the offensive side of the ball. UF will make it back to the SEC championship game, but only after a lot of 38-31 games.
Tennessee will reign supreme Erik Ainge will be a Heisman Candidate and shoot up the NFL Draft board thanks in large part to former FSU player and Juco Transfer Kenny O'Neal
The yet undiscussed, but REAL problem with the BCS, will rear its ugly head and shake up the college football world. We will have 6 or more big name teams with one loss (no undefeated teams) with a credible arguement to play in the NCG. A revolution will ensue!
No way Texas wins the Big 12. Colt McCoy better keep gaining weight as he's shown he can't take a hit. Expect that Texas will lose at least three games this year, one of which will be in Dallas.
"a yawner worse than last year's LSU-Auburn".
For the poster who wrote the above - that was the most violent college football game I have seen. Only someone who doesn't appreciate defense could make such a statement.
i think you guys are forgetting the cornhuskers. Nebraska hosts no. 1 usc in sept. and later in the fall goes to austin to play no. 2 texas. those two games will be pretty hard for the huskers but i think they will come out beating both of them in overtime or by less than 5pts. also the huskers host texas a&m which they keep getting better and better every year. nebraska has a tough schedule and i think that with our depth in recivers, running backs, quarterbacks and a strong defense i think nebraska has the talent to play for the national title in janurary if a couple plays go our way.
I agree with you, Anonymous, over the USC fan's beef. He says the SEC's out of conference games are high school teams? The Pac-10 is full of those.
NCSU Wolfpack still has some of Amato's talented players, but now they have a talented coach. If that Evans kid does a good job at QB, I predict no worse than a 7 win season. I disagree with Mandel that they will be 'cake' for their opponents.
My High School football team could have two 1,000 yard rushers if we didn't have to play Ohio State and Michigan. Play a real big ten schedule then come talk to me... We are, Penn State!
Foregone conclusion - no matter what happens in the SEC, all SEC fans will scream, cry and moan about how they get no respect, their conference is so mucht ougher blah blah blah - hey SEC alums - why don't you go independent then if playing in the SEC is so tough for you. You are the most irritating fans this side of the Boston Red Sox fans..
Pac 10- USC
Big 10- Michigan
Big East- West Virginia
Big 12- Texas
I also think both Fresno State and Colorado will bounce back and wind up in bowl games
1. Big Ten fans will claim that their conference is the best in the country.
2. Notre Dame will be on the short end of three blowout losses and still make a New Years Day bowl, where they will be embarrassed yet again. (Maybe one of these days the school will realize that joining a conference might do them some good.)
3. Bob Stoops will drop the F-bomb while on camera.
4. Bob Griese will reminisce about Brian.
5. Kansas coach Mangino will eat a Big Mac.
6. Charlie Weis will eat the leprichan.
7. Nebraska fans will fill Wake Forest's stadium.
8. Irish fans - remember when the Big Red did that to you? And to think, you ALMOST won that game.
9. Someone will shock Texas.
10. Yet another season will end with more than two deserving BCS title game teams.
Predictions 1 and 2 are rather safe.....I'm not a Vols fan, but I think they'll win the SEC......and USC Trojans will win the BCS Championship.
WVU will go undefeated and get to the BCS title game and win, and you will see Noel Devine play some even with Slaton at Tailback. Wonder if coach has given a thought of running the wishbone with Schmidt, White, Devine, and Slaton Hmmmmmmmm?
I'm an OU fan....but I gotta say that THIS year there is not much of an excuse for OU not getting to the natl title game. Perhaps the best offense in the nation as long as the QB play doesn't mess it up. The team is loaded beyond anything i've seen in a while.
College football overall will be stronger this year. Most conferences will certainly be improving upon last year.
Alabama may not get a BCS bowl, but as long as we win at Jordan Hare I'll be happy!!! ROLL TIDE!!!
While Hawaii will most likely have the nations most potent offense, I must agree with the other bloggers and state there is no way a college football team can average 60 points a game! Not even with Hawaii's schedule, which will likely cost them a BCS bowl game, thanks to Herman Frazier! But there's always hope. GO WARRIORS!!!
army to a bowl game and a win over navy...guaranteed
remember where you heard it first
(1) MISSISSIPPI STATE will somehow manage to scratch together three wins AGAIN thus remaining a total embarassment to the SEC. Sylverster Croom will secure himself as the worst coach in MSU and SEC history.
(2) Ed Orgeron at OLE MISS will somehow manage to lose to Miss. State and field a worse team than the Bulldogs - again.
If either Orgeron or Croom have a job at the end of this season, both schools should be kicked out of the SEC.
Watch out! Roll Tide Roll !!! enough said!
USC will humiliate UCLA for revenge reasons. They will win the Pac 10 because Cal will lose to Tennesee and USC because they just dont have quite the talent sc does.
ND will go to the International Bowl in Toronto and not even want to be there .
Oregon State will contend for the Rose Bowl if they can get by Cal and reenact what they did to USC last year too bad for the beavers they play USC at the Colliseum ehre they are virtually unbeatable.
Nebraska will lose only to USC and goto the big 12 champ game highly ranked against texas or Ou highly ranked because nobody else in that conference can beat them unless A&M gets lucky.
Wisconsin will be Big 10 champs. OSU lost most of their O. Michigan lost their D. Penn State lost Poz and Hunt. Morelli is mediocre. Pending an upset, Wisconsin is Big 10 champs and in the NC game with a 12-0 record. Remember, Wisky lost almost no one on D & O.They do have a good replacement for LT J Thomas. TE Beckum is an All American. They have an athletic QB. Look for the Badgers to be headed to a BCS bowl at least.
A little bit late, but... some how Georgia will finally beat Florida this year, even if it be Florida's only loss.
Here's some take it to the bank predictions for next year:
SEC champs will have (atleast) 1 loss and get screwed out of the BCS Championship game.
USC will win the Pac-10 (like a 4th place team from the ACC or a 6th place team from the SEC could do).
Iowa will eb the surprise winners of the Big-10 (No Oh St or Michigan, how did that happen???)
Ohio State will suck without their amazing heisman trophy winner QB and out standing WR corps. (By the way, what spot did that Heisman Trophy winner get drafted???)
Hawaii WILL Avg 60+ points per game, they may even hang 90 on some poor team. Think about it, you got a QB that goes 500-600 yds/game, most teams playing at your house are way off their schedules too.
Saban won't resurrect Bama this year... but watch out the next 2 years.
The South Carolina department of corrections football team will continue appreciating Spurrier's recruiting efforts for years to come.
You are obviously on the Nick Saban bandwagon and completely disillusioned (as is everyone in the 'Bama Nation'). Believe me when I say "The honeymoon won't last long."
1. Saban isn't the End All-Be All of College Football coaches.
2. The Alabama Alumni have their hands way too deep into the football program for any coach to be successful.
big 10- michigan
pac 10- usc
big 12- oklahoma
big east- west virginia
acc- v tech
the winner of the vtech/lsu game will finish in the top 5 and will have a big impact on the college football season. it wont be the biggest game of the year because of in conference games and rivalries, but the game will definately start the season off with a bang and make the national title race clearer.
usc is good but is in a terrible conference. they will play in the title game only because they will not play a decent defense all year and lousy notre dame is supposed to be one of their toughest opponenets on the schedule. if someone can come out alive unscathed from the sec, i feel like they can run the table against usc similar to the way florida roughed up ohio st in last year's game. lsu has a hard schedule but they are my favorite for winning the sec. They may be in the national championship unless they have a loss, and even then they will be more deserving than an undefeated michigan or west virginia team that have schedules with very few teams that could compete with the sec. here are what i think the bowl games will turn out to be:
usc vs lsu
tennessee vs. west virginia
virginia tech vs. ohio st
oklahoma vs michigan
louisville vs. texas
