College Athletes and Their Cars

Oakland Arena
Darren McFadden's car would make Xzibit proud. What are the athletes at your school driving.
Darren McFadden's souped up Crown Vic is, in a word, awesome. Granted we spent most of our adult life cruising around in a 1993 Nissan Altima that was handed down from our grandma, but still, we've never seen anything like this. It also got us thinking – what other college athlete are driving around in pimped out rides. We know that these guys are generally the big men on campus – do their cars reflect that? Or is McFadden the exception and are top athletes like Steve Slaton and Patrick White are trucking through Morgantown in a Dodge Neon?

Give us the scoop.

in iowa city, our football players are known for riding their mopeds... probably for parking reasons as much as projected persona.
Posted: 1:11 PM   by Anonymous
What the hell is that thing? That is strange looking!
Posted: 1:24 PM   by Wes
If they call people who lift a truck and put on 35s a redneck, what do you call this?
Posted: 1:28 PM   by Anonymous
Can you say NCAA Rules Violation. Some booster probably paid for the customization.
Posted: 1:33 PM   by EERS07NationalChamps
wow how much money is arkansas giving him? maybe he got that at the car dealership he is "working" at
Posted: 2:14 PM   by Anonymous
for Christ's sake, you can buy a mid to late 90s crown vic for about $2000 and put about $2500 into it. It's not like that whole set cost vast sums of money. that car is probably worth $10,000 at most and if you look at some of the cars college kids drive nowadays, thats very reasonable
Posted: 2:17 PM   by Ryan
Pat White drives a regular 2000/2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee...
Posted: 2:25 PM   by Anonymous
I remember Cedric Benson his freshmen year cruising around UT in a green Escalade. It was an awesome car, and was his legitimately as he was not a scholarship athlete (he played Minor League Baseball for the Dodgers).
Posted: 2:33 PM   by roothog229
No offense, but if a booster was going to give him a car, it'd be a SUV or sportscar...something that Michigan gave Chris Webber.

And since Arkansas doesn't follow the "OU Car Dealership Plan", I doubt it's that either.

That's an old Crown Vic that got some big wheels on it. Looks more like something a garage in midtown Little Rock would do.
Posted: 2:37 PM   by Anonymous
He needs bigger rims...yo..
My John Deer riding mower has
24" on it, the blades will not
even touch the grass. That is cool but my yard looks terrible.
Posted: 2:38 PM   by Anonymous
At Penn State, our boys keep it simple. Paul Posluszny drives a pick up truck. Anthony Scirrotto drives a red saturn that his dad bought for him after leading the big ten in INTs.

I know that after Adam Taliaferro injured his neck and stopped playing football he drove a white mercedes with the license plate "Tali 43." That was the only flashy car I've ever seen a player drive.
Posted: 2:58 PM   by UNCTed
Any decent basketball or football player can be seen driving a Michael Jordan Nissan around Chapel Thrill. They can lease them for $1 a month b/c they are making ca$h money when they go pro!!!
Posted: 3:06 PM   by Anonymous
When I went to IU and Patrick Ewing Jr. was still there, he drove a very nice Range Rover around campus. There was never any question to where he got the money to buy it.
Posted: 3:23 PM   by Anonymous
at Duke, Demarcus Nelson drives a ridiculous green Suburban with green spinners.
Posted: 3:42 PM   by Anonymous
That car is over ten years old, is it not? The wheels cost more than the car.
Posted: 3:50 PM   by Anonymous
Who says he didn't save his lunch money. It's ugly.
Posted: 4:04 PM   by Zach
To answer EERS07 we are not paying Darren nearly as much as Slaton and White.

Makes no sense right? Neither did your comment. Stay focused on the question raised by the vent.
Posted: 4:08 PM   by Jason
I know Chris Leak drives a late 90s/early 00s model Ford Explorer, up and coming basketball star Dan Werner Drives a Chevy Trail Blazer. As for the Coaches... Urban Meyer drives a Dodge Durango, Billy D drives a Toyota Sequoia and Jeremy Foley switches between a new Ford Expedition/Explorer.
Posted: 4:22 PM   by Anonymous
Pat White drives a 2002 Jeep Cherokee :-)
Posted: 4:44 PM   by Anonymous
I remember when pac man jones went to wvu he drove an older model cadillac convertible and he was driving in front of texas roadhouse and someone threw a bunch of peanut shells in his car, i thought it was pretty funny
Posted: 4:55 PM   by Poor Sports
When LJ signed with an agent before the draft of his senior year, he drove around Penn State in a silver G-Wagon with spinners.
Posted: 5:06 PM   by Anonymous
Well goes to show you guys know your sports but not your style in cars.. That is called "DONK" to take an older car like that and put huge wheels on it.. its the new style rather then driving a lowrider they DONK out their car... might look stupid but its rather popular..Yes the car is probably $2k but the lift kit.. the wheels... potentially airbags (like in a lowrider with hydraulics) it wasnt cheap but not out of the realm of possibibilities for someone to buy at college !!
Posted: 5:14 PM   by Anonymous
When Brodie Croyle was still QB here at UA, he had a big Chevy 2500 all black with black wheels, big tires, dark tint and black toolbox. It was a mean looking truck. Of course, his family was loaded, don't need his money now that the Chiefs are paying him...
Posted: 5:38 PM   by Benjamin
A lot of athletes in Berkeley also ride mopeds, but one day when I was walking home this summer I saw Desean Jackson driving in a newer black pathfinder with some pretty sweet rims, although nowhere as outrageous as that crown vic. Leon Powe before he left for the NBA was driving a late 90's Suburban. Devon Hardin (basketball) Ive seen driving two cars, the frist was a eary 2000s Mustang, and the other was a early 2000s Camry. I, on the other hand, drive a '89 Acura Legend. Go Bears!

Marcus Ginyard gets around Chapel Hill in a B-Ski's Delivery car
Posted: 6:30 PM   by Anonymous
wow. darren mcfadden is a sick running back and even plays quarterback. but damn. what is that. is he trying to make that crown vic into an escalade. dmac, stick with a camry or something.
Posted: 8:18 PM   by Anonymous
At Rutgers University, GOOO SCARLET KNIGHTS!!!! Ray Rice drives around one of those new tough agressive looking DODGE Avengers with ridiculous rims... wonder where all these cash money comes from
Posted: 8:35 PM   by Anonymous
in the late 90's, i recall peter warrick driving around a cadillac escalade. couple years before that, i believe i saw warrick dunn driving around a nissan maxima? warrick dunn was low key anyways... P Dub was anywhere and everywhere.
Posted: 9:33 PM   by Anonymous
Ultimate in college athlete whips was Marcus Vick who went form escalade to lexus to 7 series at VT

Getting loaners from his bro doesnt count
Posted: 10:21 PM   by Anonymous
I know that after one university won the Football National Championship within the last few years our seniors (no longer eligible) had car keys waiting in their lockers when they got back... nice little thank you
Posted: 10:21 PM   by Anonymous
Very nice. Looks like something a 10 year old would love.
Posted: 1:23 AM   by Anonymous
at maryland, boom osby rides around in 30-yr-old caddies. stuff is sick.
Posted: 1:44 AM   by Anonymous
JoePa drives a newer 5 series BMW around State College
Posted: 7:42 AM   by Anonymous
he should buy a jacked up 4 wheel drive if he wants to sit that high. that thing is ugly!
Posted: 8:52 AM   by Anonymous
Marcus Vick's big brother probably paid for those rides with his winnings in the dog fights.
Posted: 9:06 AM   by Anonymous
At UGA most athletes drive mopeds
Posted: 9:13 AM   by Anonymous
Jim Tressel drives a early 80's pick-up painted OSU scarlet. The man keeps it real.
Posted: 9:14 AM   by Anonymous
It is within NCAA rules to secure a low interest loan based on future earnings and make payments ONLY on the interest for a determined number of years. All you need is a car dealership in town that supports the team.

When Greg Jones was at FSU he had the sickest Harley Davidson edition Ford F-150 on 22 inch chrome rims....
Posted: 9:57 AM   by Anonymous
So far nobody has posted anything terribly expensive and out of reach for a College kid. Nothing compared to the cars kids in high school ride around here in Long Island NY where 17 year olds come to school in M3's and AMG's :)
Posted: 10:25 AM   by Anonymous
where i went to college, all the athletes drove brand new cars, how the hell a bunch of college kids can afford brand new hummers and lexus's beyond me, especially when the school newspaper continually prints stories about how the athletes have bettered themselves because they grew up in a bad neighborhood and both their parents were in prison and they had no money, but they didnt turn out like every other person in that neighborhood, no they went to college.
Posted: 10:26 AM   by Anonymous
that is the stupidest looking car ive ever seen in my life, people who drive cars like this need pipe beaten
Posted: 10:58 AM   by Anonymous
What the F is that? You call that a car? If I ever saw that disgrace on the raod I'd jack it and then blow it the F up.

When I was at UCF #8 had a fully loaded Navigator which he used to sell **** out of. oops! LOL My pusha!
Posted: 11:02 AM   by Anonymous
Les Miles drives a Ford Expedition around. Nick Saban used to drive the newest Mercedes SL he could find. I think he's doing to same thing in Bama too
Posted: 11:50 AM   by jason
Hey! Whats wrong with a 1993 Nissan Altima. I've been out of school for 4 years, and I'm still driving one. :) (Not having a car payment is really whats great.)
Posted: 11:52 AM   by Anonymous
DMAC and all the other players drive mopeds in Fayetteville too.
Posted: 12:15 PM   by Anonymous
Talked to a guy who has been buddies with DMAC for a while, and he said that he bought that car back in high school and has been adding on to it since. I realize that we are Arkansas and that there are plenty of jokes about that, but we aren't as blatantly stupid as OU is about giving players cars.
Posted: 1:26 PM   by Anonymous
I know Pat and Steve both and those two boys have more trouble trying to pay rent each month, and don't have the extra money to spend on toys for their cars. Steve drives a 2 door early 90's model Explorer and Pat drives a early 2000 model Jeep Grand Cheeroke.
Posted: 1:55 PM   by F1_Razorhawg
IF you take a good look at the pic it was taken back in '99. He didn't even know where he was going to college when he put the rims on that car.
Posted: 3:12 PM   by Anonymous
McFadden's Crown Vic looks like a childs Matchbox car. A perfect fit for a 20 year old with a 5 year olds vocabulary.
Posted: 3:28 PM   by Anonymous
At The U, a few freshmen drive around in brand new dodge calibers with 22 inch rims, one of them has a sound system that must have cost a few grand. I saw Darnell Jenkins driving a hot Lexus GS350 and Brandon Meriwether had a chromed out, black Dodge Charger yet again with big rims. I wonder where these guys get the cash for that?
Posted: 5:14 PM   by Anonymous
He should focus more on beating LSU than "pimpin'" his ride.
Posted: 5:35 PM   by Anonymous
How do you wonder where the cash comes from. When you see college athletes that have zero time for extra jobs meaning no money and they are driving stuff like this doesn't it dawn on you that, "hey maybe they got a loan for that". Read some of the other posts, dealerships give them the cars because a. they are going to go pro, b. it's good advertising to have a good college athlete driving your cars around town, and c. if they are a bust and dont go pro, they still have to pay for the car and they've still gotten that advertising.
Posted: 5:38 PM   by WOOPIG
the pic wasnt taken 8 years ago, if that was the case D-Macwould have been 12 or 13. Give me a break, the cameras date is off.

As far as affording it, do you realize how much money football players on scholly actually get. Its more per month than you think
Posted: 6:21 PM   by Anonymous
tyler hansbrough drives a big black pick-up truck and marcus ginyard drives a pimped out caprice
Posted: 6:23 PM   by Fifty7
Well that car was jacked up by a place a couple of blocks from where I live. Marcus Monk drives one very similiar to"D",s. The tires and wheels where supplied by an ex Razorback lineman who played on the so called 1964 Razorback National Championship team. Cost a LOT of money to do these to that car. Over $10,0000.00 from what I hear from somebody who has a freind he helped do the job of Lifting the vehicle.
Posted: 6:27 PM   by Fifty7
Oh by the way both "D"'s and "M&M,s" cars are sitting down the street 2 blocks from where I live in front of the place that did the lift work. The date on the photo is wrong, grant you. But it is a real photo. "D"'s only had the tricked out version of the car for the past 2 weeks. He picked up the finished car last week end in Ft. Smith.
Posted: 12:37 AM   by Anonymous
the pic was taken in '99?? wat? whoever said that is a dumbass. If it was taken in '99 that would make McFadden about 12yrs old. He certainly does not look 12...
Posted: 11:10 AM   by Anonymous
It's a modern day pimp mobile. Yeah that sounds racist, but when it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck! ... in this case yes it's a black thug pimp mobile! Hip Hop rap crap glorifies pimps and ho's ... so I call it like it is.

By the way get over it if you can't handle the truth then stop glorifying thug and illegal behavior. No class or respect for others means you don't deserver any.
Posted: 11:12 AM   by Anonymous
Is that Maurice Clarett?
Posted: 3:18 PM   by Anonymous
At U of Illinois, our basketball players drive trees...uhh I mean into trees. They also drive in the back of squad cars drunk.
Posted: 5:14 PM   by JP
That car isn't even worth $7,000 for the lift, wheels, tires and the car itself. I highly doubt that car is a product of paying players in college. If anything it says the exact opposite.

That thing will scare small children...hell possibly even adults.
Posted: 10:50 PM   by Anonymous
at ND clausen drives around in a newer tahoe with tinted windows, at least 20" rims and a loud sound system.
Posted: 12:28 AM   by Anonymous
Before Robert Gallery graduated from UI (and won all those awards, including academic all big ten), I believe he was driving an old caprice classic, or something like that. You could always see it parked outside Hillcrest. I remember him laughing when someone asked him if he was going pro or into teaching.
Posted: 12:05 PM   by Anonymous
At LSU, we have tons of athletes driving around in cool cars. Tasmin Mitchel drives an 07 maroon avalance with chrome 24's. terry martin drives an 07 black avalance with black 24 inch rims. big baby gleen davis drives a grey magnum on rims. jamarcus russell drives a black 70's vette and a white 07 elecalade on 26's. laron landry drives a tahoe on 30 inch rims. alley brousard of the football team drives a silver lincoln towncar with 24s. ryan periloux drives a maroon excursion with a billet grille on it. jonathan zenon drives a charger with zenon written on the back of it.
Posted: 3:15 PM   by colin
I think Mo Clarett made that license plate on McFadden's whip.
Posted: 7:48 PM   by iwannaknow
at virginia tech, most of our football players ride in the back of cop cars.

Louis holmes at University of Arizona drives a Hummer on 26'

Joey Shaw drives around a 300 with big chrome rims and tinted windows

Hey 11:10 D-Mac is so far from being a thug.

I would love to see you say that to his face...PUNK!!!
Posted: 12:51 PM   by Anonymous
at Clemson, our football players ride a mule or a john deere tractor.
Posted: 12:20 PM   by Chadwick
The lift is so he can plow over the fat Arkansas women... I mean hogs
Posted: 9:12 AM   by Anonymous
You can take DMac out of the ghetto, but.......
Posted: 10:54 AM   by Anonymous
DMac got those rims from Jim Grizzle in Ft. Smith. Hog players have been getting stuff from him since the '80's. That's the 2nd set of rims from Jim he's had. A shop in Ft. Smith named "Come Get Ya Some" which is also on the front plate under DMac's name did the custom work. Monk also had them do some work. Coincidentally, both DMac and Monk were in Ft. Smith with Jim Grizzle every Wednesday during June. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, though.

And, yes, McFadden rides a moped around campus.
